A cry for help
[a distress call has been tracked across the void, finally leading back to the source. a hulking crippled ship, teeming with hostile alien life, now lies before you.
what do you do? do you dive in or hang back? are you here to learn, play, build, or observe?
however you choose to proceed, your audience is out there somewhere, watching.]
ooc: here is a good ol' themed mingle to get you all started! and don't feel limited by the prompts and what they describe--they're just there as idea-starters, so feel free to go anywhere and do anything.
have fun!

[She studies him for a moment, squinting slightly.]
Have you ever shot a gun before?
video
I have, but... I was not very good at it the few times I have. I haven't had any formal training.

I suppose we should be able to defend ourselves against threats, after all- it would upset the audience to see us die. [This is said with an obvious tinge of sarcasm.]

In all seriousness, though, if you're planning on going in, I do want you to have one one you, just in case.

[He nods.]
I understand. Do you know where I may find one? I'll have to ask my shipmates, too.

Action
Is it alive if it has no soul, no mind, no thoughts, no meaning? If it simply does?
no subject
It is alive, yes- sentient is a different matter. Capable of complex thought, I mean- of thinking, of speaking, of moving and doing with purpose and direction. I do not think these bugs are, but that does not mean they aren't alive.
no subject
They want nothing. They simply... do. How is that alive?
no subject
no subject
People live in things they don't make all the time. So do animals.
no subject
That is a good point... if this ship was empty, it is possible they simply took it over for their own purposes. If that is the case, however... there could have been a crew. Humans. Or another species capable of piloting this ship.
no subject
They didn't die. There's no death in the metal.
no subject
Hmmm... then that is rather strange. Did these bugs build the ship all on their own? I... I just want to try and make sense of this. It's reminding me of a derelict ship we found in my world. [There are images in Simon's mind now- empty, dark corridors as seen through the bubble of a space helmet's glass visor, the feeling of death almost smothering.]
no subject
Pressing in closer, the emptiness is smothering, distorted through the glass.
I don't know. There's suffering, but I can't find it. There's no death, but there's no mind. It's empty, too empty, echoing endlessly, eternal emptiness.
[He pulls Simon's hands up over his ears, holding them there and breathing slowly.]
no subject
The emptiness on the other side of the glass... it... scares me. The idea of being that close to the vacuum of space, with only the glass of a visor separating you from it.
[He nods.]
Like the bugs are all... machines. Mindlessly doing whatever task they know how to do.
no subject
Machines... yes. No. They're empty. Machines have purpose. These... not right. COnfusing.
no subject
I think I may take River to see if we can catch one. Examine it, and see if we can find out more. Maybe... find out why they are so empty.
