[Cassandra has very little interest in spending time on the beach. In fact, that swimsuit she was given has likely managed to get very lost if not accidentally set on fire. (Sorry to the viewers, but you are being deprived seeing Cassandra's abs. That's just how these things go.) She'd rather spend her time a little more productively and seeks to help repair the damages that have been left behind. Naturally, she doesn't accept any payment for her services. Catch her on a break when she's not necessarily relaxing, but she's certainly a little stiller and observing (as well as appreciating) the things and people around her, or help her by passing a tool or material.]

[Cassandra stops working at least long enough to find Mal at some point. What she finds is not what she expects and she has to stifle a smile, biting her lower lip.]

You look ridiculous.

[Which is the Maker's honest truth. That hat is absurd. But it's not mean to be an insult. At least, not a derogatory one. It's just jarring to see Mal looking less than... well, elegant is the best word for it. Cassandra isn't sure what it is about Mal, but she has this tendency to look rather close to unnaturally put-together in a way that's almost always appealing to the eye even when she's covered herself in grease from the engines she's working on. But the hat? There's just no saving her appearance with the hat.]

Where did you even find it?

[So, maybe there is more to this planet than just building things and Cassandra can maybe take some time off to relax. You might find her on the beach with a book or you could find her wandering about in the jungle. You could also perhaps find her wandering around the various shops, though she seems to be taking a little more of a utilitarian approach in her shopping and seeking things that could be helpful to have stored on board rather than anything for herself personally. Either way, she does eventually indulge in a little downtime. But only a little. There are still things that she could and probably should be doing besides lazing about like this.]

[She's been working - well, more or less working. More like chatting with the natives, but, well, six of one, half a dozen of the other. She brightens when she sees Cassandra coming, then makes a face at the comment. Rude. Honest, but rude.]

It was in my locker. I need it.

[You don't even want to know how bad she sunburns, Cassandra.]

[Cassandra hooks a finger under the rim of the hat, pushing it up a little so she can actually see Mal's face underneath it.]

I thought you would be too stubborn and too full of yourself, regardless of whether you need it or not, to wear it.

Well, it hurts.

[So there. She's a narcissist, not a masochist.]

[Her hand flits up to brush against Cassandra's briefly, then falls back to readjust the hat.]

[Hello, Cassandra. If there's one thing you have in common with Isabela it's a love of smutty literature. How lucky for you she's noticed the genre of that book in your hands.]

Well, judging by your face that one can't be too exciting. Don't you have anything better with you? Or have you yet to reach the part where the hero shows the blushing maiden his mighty blade?

[Cassandra makes a small disgusted little noise, but now she's also mildly embarrassed so there's a slight heat in her cheeks. She doesn't even look up.]

[Okay, actually, she's not looking up because she probably couldn't meet Isabela's eyes right now, but dammit. We're just gonna pretend it's because she's such a cool lady, okay? Okay.]

Must you always be so crass?

Crass? [Her eyes widen. Whyever would she think that?]

I hardly see how asking about his weaponry is crass. It's not my fault you have such a dirty mind.

[Fenris is not so noble and doesn't work for free, but work he does. Far better that, than lazing around. Better he be active, before they go back to living in the confines of their ships again. He gives Cass a nod in passing, while they work, but bothers anything like a conversation when they finally stop.

If a 'grunt' is considered conversation, which between these two probably does. ]

[Grunting is absolutely conversation. It is an important language to their genteel people as they are so often made quite disgruntled. His grunt is returned with a noise of acknowledgement as she takes a moment to drink some clean water. Then she'll actually use her words.]

I'm surprised to see you working this much. Most work an hour or two and then run off to do Maker knows what.

[He gives a shrug of his shoulders. ]

I prefer to work while the opportunity arises. I am not well suited to sitting around and doing nothing. Better to keep busy.

[Because Ray is apparently into masochism, now, he plops his sunburnt, skinny Polish ass down on the beach next to Cassandra where she's reading and says,]

You look hot.

[Cassandra sputters, flushing, for a moment before,]

Excuse you?

[For a man as sunburned as Ray, he sure manages to still blanch.]

I meant-- you're not wearing a bathing suit, it's gotta be hot!

[they've hung out and talked about books once, so that makes them buddies, in Nel's mind. he doesn't bother with a greeting or a warning to announce his approach when he sees her chilling with a book on the beach.

he just ambles on up to her side--gnawing on a bit of rind from something like a coconut, with a little sunburn backing up all his freckles--and peers down at the cover of her book for a moment, to see if he recognizes it.]

--Ooh, is that from the library? Is it any good?

[openhands]

[It's been a while since they talked and it was only the one time. So, truth be told, when Nel comes up next to her and starts talking to her, she doesn't recognize him at all. At least, not enough to remember his name. In fact, she's mentally scrambling, trying to remember what his name was before it has to come up in conversation. She's trying to remember where she saw him, hoping that might jog her memory, but she's not finding it.]

[And then suddenly, right the library. He was one of the ones that interrupted her reading. There were a number of people who did that that day, so the name still is not coming to her. Well, hopefully it won't come up.]

It's fine, [she says, clearing her throat in mild embarrassment and lowering the book into her lap in a relatively smooth motion and closing it so the back cover is the only thing showing.] I didn't get it from the library, however. It was a gift from someone else.

[guess they're working together to fix this house, huh?

Pearl has a clipboard in hand as she stares at this (smallish) roof that looked like had happened to blow right off. And then was trampled by a horde of fungified Nunnulis.]

Do you think you can lift that up? [and she's on her hands and knees, peering underneath all the wood and thatching.] I think there's an important structural component under there.

Do you know which side it's under?

[It's a small roof, but it's a little unwieldy for Cassandra to lift the whole thing up without someone else grabbing the other end. She'd rather not have to lift it multiple times if it can be avoided.]

C is for Christ guys just get along for five minutes

[actually, Zhas will catch her somewhere between the beach and the ship. he's probably on his way out, though he's not wearing his face paint or his coat. it rains too much for one, and it's too hot for the other.

he lifts his hand to get her attention, though, so he probably actually wants something.]

D is for Don't tell them how to live their lives

[She catches the motion out of the corner of her eye and stops. She hasn't been avoiding Zhas necessarily. She's been trying to do as she promised Nunnally and remain civil, and not being around him all that much helps with that. So that it's worked out that way has been rather fortunate, but he's flagging her down now, so she won't ignore him.]

[Similarly, as Jove shops she's really only picking up things that could considered useful... or gifts. There's something for everyone in the little basket she's got hanging from one arm, and from the way she very quickly reaches in to shuffle things around it's a fair guess to say she's hiding something to be sure Cassandra doesn't see it.

Providing for her companions is a trait that never dies, even if they remember an entirely different Inquisitor. Still, she's pleased to see Cassandra taking some time for herself and it shows in the small smile she's got as she joins the other woman.]

Finding anything especially interesting to take back to the ships?

[Cassandra doesn't notice the shuffling around of the basket. Jove's smart enough to do it while her attention is still on wares. Once Jove's by her side, her attention shifts. Cassandra is in a much better mood than when last they spoke, a light smiles on her lips that manages to reach her eyes as well.]

A few things here and there, yes. I must admit, I would not have thought algae to have as many uses as they have for it. It's impressive. [She glances at her basket.] I'd say you're also having an easy time finding a few things as well.

[Syeira hasn't been a part of the rebuilding, which might actually surprise Cassandra, since when they first met, she was rushing around to pitch in. But Sye has been around, taking to people, entertaining, usually refusing payment for it. She's letting people who won't screw it up do the rebuilding.

Also, she needed a break. But she does small things to help. Like now, as she comes up beside Cassandra in the shade, offering a skein of water to the warrior. She also has something wrapped up in palm leaves, or what amounts to them here. It's lunch. She's brought you lunch.]

Lady Seeker. I thought you might be thirsty. Also hungry.

[It is a little bit of a surprise that Syeira is not helping in rebuilding. But Cassandra has been paying attention and it would seem Syeira is helping in another way. So, she can expect not to be berated for not doing more to pitch in. Cassandra is likewise quietly touched that Syeira is bringing her lunch.]

I... I appreciate that, Syeira. [She takes both offered items.] Thank you.

I see that you've been keeping yourself busy.

[ Elize is shopping around for a gift, preoccupied looking over the goods for sale at one of the shops. Her mood is a lot more subdued lately, but she's faring a lot better today unlike when she first woke up. When she decides to move on to a different shop, she's momentarily surprised to see Cassandra when she looks up. ]

Cassandra? H-hello. It's been awhile...

[For a moment, Cassandra looks right over Elize when she hears her name. But as she continues talking, Cassandra realizes the voice is coming down from lower.]

Elize! It's good to see you. Have you been well?
