[ DON'T MIND KATARA, she's just going to be here, really enjoying actual sunlight and weather and planetary atmosphere. she's flopped out on a towel on the sand, apparently just relishing the weather. ]

How's the sandbending coming along? [ teasing. ]

Anything's better than Ember Island!

[How can he not mind her she's right there! It's a distraction, but a welcome one. He glances towards her with a smile as he sits in the sand, making it float around his fingers.]

It's... I'm getting there! I wanna make something really pretty for you by the end of the day!

[ she leans up slightly, drowsy and comfortable and honestly probably on her way to a mild sunburn, but right now she really couldn't care less. ]

[ amused, and - honestly a little flattered. ]

You should leave the sand on the beach.

But... I wanna make something nice! [He drops the sand as he tries to make placating hand motions towards the drowsy Katara.] I know I can do it if I try!

What can you even use sand to make?

[ she sits up completely, crossing her eyes and rolling her shoulders back in an attempt to stretch and wake herself up. ]

Um... [He shifts his sitting position to faces her completely and scratches at his chin.]

A sand sculpture! Like that one Sokka did once... but pretty!

[kyasdaughter]

[ that catches katara by surprise... and then she bursts into quiet laughter. ]

Why don't we just build one together?

[He hadn't thought about that - but he quickly finds himself smiling at the idea.]

Sure! If you wanna... That sounds like fun!

[ it's getting her to wake up a little, at least. :') she's already on her feet and heading a little closer to the water, just to make it easier to dampen the sand. ]

What should we make?

Umm... Um... Something really really pretty. Like a penguin, orrr a bison? Or... Anything you want?

Oh! A penguin'd be fun. Come on, let's get to work.

[ turns out it's way easier to enjoy the beach when you're not worried about the fight with the Fire Lord hanging over your head. ]

[He hops up in the air and follows right after her eagerly, ready to get started.]

I bet it'll be the penguiniest penguin.

You don't think it's mean to build it on the beach, do you?

[ she's laughing a little to herself as she starts shaping the sand. ]

Nope! I think if a penguin wants to go to the beach, he should follow his dreams!

[He giggles as he leans over to do his share of helping to shape the sand.]

I guess that means we should probably sculpt some camels out of ice the next time we're around some, huh? Just to be fair.

[ she gives what's formed of the sand penguin so far an affectionate little pat on the head. ]

[He raises an eyebrow as the joke glides over his head.]

I didn't know you liked camels that much. Don't worry, Katara, I promise we'll make it happen someday!!

[He does chuckle at the little headpat though.]

I don't, really, but they should be allowed to play in the snow if they want, too, right?

[ she sits back on her heels, admiring what they've managed so far of their sand sculpture. ]

I really miss the animals from home sometimes.

Oh! [Now he gets it, and he laughs a little. He sits on his knees beside her as he overlooks it all. And now he frowns a little as he thinks about it.]

...I miss them too. A lot.

[His heart aches as he looks up at the sky, trying to look for the biggest and fluffiest cloud he can find. Any one that seems bison-like.]
