When We're Rollin Through the Wild Wild West
Who: Everyone! EVERYONE!
Broadcast: IF YOU WANNA
Action: Everywhere! EVERYWHERE!
When: Mid-September - Mid-October
[How's your ship doing, pardners? Is it still pretty damaged? Is it glitching out hardcore? Well, there is one place to land to take care of all that, and that's on a dusty old moon in front of a planet that no one wants to go to. On this moon, you'll find a civilization that looks a lot like one's stepped into a wild west movie, hardened cowpolk and mutant horses and all. Will you become a vigilante, hunting bounties and stopping gangs from doing their dirty work? Will you go exploring planetside, with a cowboy hat and a stalk of wheat in your mouth to complete the look? Good luck with that; there is no wheat. This town ain't big enough for all you flooters, but make it so! For the ratings!
In other words, it's a planet mingle! Get 'er done!]

[Phedre can be caught exploring the good ans services offered on this planet - and very carefully questioning those working about their lives and the moon and maybe, even, the visitors they get. She backed off once tempers got raised or she gathered what she wanted to know.
Join her in looking at items!]
[B: Saloons]
[Drinking got tongues wagging, and Phedre took advantage by listening - and some very minor drinking - in the saloon. She stands out, a shining jewel even covered in dust and dressed in the rather dull colors found in the closet granted to her.
She may be eyeing the companions touting their wares, as well, watching with a critical eye how those around them treat behave to and around them.
Join her? She might look a touch lonely sitting at her table, and when she sees you looking she'll smile an encouraging welcome.]
[C: Choose yourself!]
[Have another idea? Choose your own adventure with Phedre!]
B
He notices Phedre, and while he's not the most sociable of people, he'll move to sit nearby. She's part of the crew which he supposes counts for something. He gives her a silent nod in greeting. Hey.]
Re: B
[She smiles and beckons him to join, head giving a graceful nod in response.
He is familiar and she finds it odd they've spoken so little, confined as they are together.]
Good afternoon.
no subject
Yes. Hello.
[Wow, he is legitimately terrible at this.]
Are you enjoying the planet?
no subject
[A bit awkward, but she could handle that. Patrons sometimes started awkward, before the point, as it were, settled in.
Phedre neatly sidesteps the actual question he asked and instead did her best to encourage conversation.]
I've never been a place like this before. Have you?
no subject
Not exactly like this no, but similar enough. Not with the Fleet, however.
no subject
I have never been in a fleet such as this, either. Ships, yes. And journeys. This is another experience entirely.
[She sets an empty cup before him]
May I offer you a drink?
no subject
[He'll incline his head. ]
Thank you. That's good of you.
no subject
[She nods her head, and pours him a drink with all the grace trained by Cereus house. It was small things, the turn of her wrist and the way she set the bottle down with no click.
The drink isn't great, but there was little she could do about that.
This place, and its reasonings, reminded her uncomfortably of Melisande. When she speaks, it's more to herself than to him.]
Sometimes that's even harder to see once it's done.
no subject
I suppose you're right. I doubt we'll like it if we ever get answers, anyway. It certainly wasn't that way in the last place I was trapped.
[It's a quiet murmur, as he takes his drink. ]
no subject
[She touched the base of her throat, where Melisande's diamond had hung for so long.]
I can find no reason to like the answer for imprisonment. A cage is still a cage, no matter how gilded the bars or long the leash.
no subject
Some do not seem to understand that. They could give us everything we could ever wish for, but we are still imprisoned here. We're not free, and freedom is the most important thing a person can posses. Most do not realise how precious it is, because they have always had it.
[He's testing the water, carefully, to see where this leads. What he'll learn from it.]
no subject
[She looks at him, under her lashes. Evaluating.]
Freedom is only cheap to those who have never been enslaved.
[She had not understood enslavenment until the Skaldi. Nothing made one more clear on it than being a bed-slave. Pampered, yes, but still unwilling.]
no subject
Very true. They do not understand that waking up without a chain around your neck ever morning is a gift beyond measure.
no subject
She had not understood it, either, before Skaldi. She had been a bond-servant before that, but it had been her choice every day. She could not fault them for not seeing their cell for what it was.
Comfort had not settled easily with her here, in a foreign world of metal and an endless sea of black.]
Perhaps ignorance is bliss.
[She punctuates that with a small sip of her rather dreadful drink.]
no subject
[It took the Fog Warriors for Fenris to understand what he was missing. Before then, he followed Danarius without word, without reservation. His wolf on a chain. Ignorance truly is bliss. ]
no subject
They were in exact agreement.]
Yes. You do not yearn for what you don't know exists.
(no subject)
A!
When you're a kid just arriving into the Fleet, though, the money is kind of non-existent. Shawn sighs as he forks over the needed credits before he glances over at another member of the Fleet (presumably, as she'd just questioned the vendor).]
Asking the locals about other visitors, huh? Find out anything interesting?
Re: A!
[She's asked enough that's she's cross with it, and getting frustrated. She decides that makes it time to back off and mull over what little she had.
A brief brush over her dark, lustrous curls, and Phedre attempts a smile.]
Less than I would like. Little that is useful.
[To distract herself, she moves in his direction.]
Are you finding what you look for?
no subject
Kind of. I got some film, but I can't afford much, so... [Shrug] I'll take what I can get, and hope the next planet'll have more.
no subject
If I may, what do you use 'film' for?
[He speaks of it in quantities, which makes her assume it is a thing that only has so many uses. She holds out a delicate hand, inquiring without words to hold a small canister.]
no subject
[He goes ahead and hands a canister to her.] Be careful - it's delicate stuff. But you put this canister into the camera, and it lets you take pictures of anything that interests you.
I'd show you my camera too, except uh. I kinda left it on the ship.
no subject
[She takes it gingerly, holding it between her fingers with care as if it were glass.
Pictures. Portraits? Images. He uses this to make images with something. She examines is curiously and eventually hands it back, smiling, encourgaing]
Thank you. I would like to see your 'camera', if we ever find an oportunity.
[She says the foreign word slowly and copies his accent while she does.]
no subject
Sure thing. In the meantime, you know you can take pictures with this too, right?
[He stands so he's beside her, holding up the device so that it's got a good angle of the store. Instead of starting a video feed, however, he adjusts the buttons so he takes a single picture and click!]
See? I personally like the film better, but people usually have this on 'em at all times.
B
not that he's noticed, of course. he's enjoying himself, and no one has told him to reign in this gregariousness yet.
so, as soon as he catches sight of another pretty face that isn't turning a cold eye toward him, he gravitates over, grinning before he's even within real conversational distance.]
--Hey!
