that is the game riku has been playing since they touched ground. you know, a smart person would think to call kaneis up to find out where lloyd was. because of course kaneis would know.

... the cold might be dulling riku's thought process a little. he's been out and about, mostly just stretching his legs because god it feels amazing to not be in a cramped space and he's been so so stir-crazy because of that stupid allergy.

but finding red in the middle of snow? pretty easy. so finding lloyd and kaneis is kind of a cakewalk where's waldo. finally--riku trudges up to both of them, though he raises an eyebrow at lloyd. ]

You guys look... [ ......... ] prepared.

[ yep. that's all he's gonna say for now. ]

It would have been cool to try out a couple of guns, though...

[ especially after Lloyd found out how heavy one of them was. looks can be deceiving and all, but DANg how can something so small be so heavy?! and they're supposed to shoot like crossbows too, duuuuuude.

but no that train of thought gets derailed when he hears someone approaching, and he looks back to find Riku walking up to them. if Lloyd noticed the look Riku gave him, he certainly isn't going to acknowledge it with anything other than a grin. ]

Riku! Hey! [ WOW WHAT A COINCIDENCE. he turns to him fully. ] We just got hired for a mercenary job.

No it wouldn't. They'd make your ears hurt for hours.

[Seriously eff guns when you have angelic hearing. But that's all he'll say about it for he hears Riku approaching. He looks over his shoulder back at the teen. Huh.]

Yeah, what he said. What brings you out here?

[ riku produces a communicator out of his satchel, holding it up and looking dead at lloyd. ]

You forgot this. I've got the feeling you'd forget your head if it wasn't attached, too.

[ he hands it over, though, glancing over to kaneis. ]

Mercenary work?

[ what's sad is that it's actually true

but no he'll look between the communicator and Riku a couple of times before frantically searching his pockets, his cheeks turning more red than they were thanks to the cold. ]

What the-- Crap, when did I--?!

[ yeah he'll just let Kaneis field the whole "explaining the mercenary job" thing as he takes the communicator back. wow that was embarrassing. ]

[He gives a slight sigh. Why is he not surprised?] Nice one, Lloyd.

[But right, the mercenary job]

Yeah. Apparently one of the mines is having some problems. A pack of bears keeps attacking the miners, making it much too dangerous to work there now.

So, the owner of the mine is willing to pay us nicely to take care of the problem.

[ he's not worried about kaneis. he's fought against him before, so he knows he can hold his own, but...

... okay, he is worried about kaneis. and lloyd. ]

Need any backup?

[ wow excuse he can take care of himself.

he shoots Kaneis an indignant frown at his comment before looking back at Riku with a curious look, blinking a couple of times. he's asking to help? he knows how to fight? ]

Uhm... sure! It's fine by me. [ the more the merrier, right? but because he knows he's not the only who gets a say in it, he turns to Kaneis. ]

What do you think, man?

[He considers, frowning a little as Lloyd asks his opinion]

I'm not one to turn down an extra hand to a fight- but you sure you'll be alright? A lot of your power has been sealed.

[ hey!

riku stiffens slightly and frowns, crossing his arms across his chest. ]

A lot of my elemental spells've been sealed--doesn't mean I can't level the playing field for both of you or make it easier in a place you don't know.

[ wait a minute. his skills were sealed? how did that even happen? did that even happen to him or Kaneis? it's not like Lloyd made any attempt to find out for both of them, but...

he says he'll be fine and Lloyd believes him... but still, he'd be fighting handicapped. ]

...You sure you're gonna be okay without 'em?

...Well, I guess it's up to you if you think you're up to it. You know your capabilities better than either of us.

[But he gives a shrug with both of his arms stretching out a bit, before falling to his sides loosely]

Just remember, I haven't had a chance to see if my healing artes still work or not.

[he may or may not be lying about that]

[ he glances to lloyd. ]

I'll be fine. I'm more into swordsmanship anyway, not being able to cast a few spells won't weigh me down.

[ though he almost says but I don't want to slow you down. he really doesn't. he's just... well, he's both worried and curious. ]

I didn't know you guys were such worrywarts. [ said rather bluntly, cocking his head to the side. ]

[ wow excuse. that last comment earns Riku a pout. ]

Hey, there's nothing wrong with making sure your friends'll be fine, especially if they're handicapped! [ yes Riku, you are already his friend. ]

[He meanwhile just scoffs]

Like you're even one to talk about being a worrywart- I wouldn't be surprised if you made yourself go gray.

But sure sure, come along if you insist. The payment's big enough that splitting it three ways won't be a problem.

[ riku just freezes for a second--did lloyd just.

You're as impossible as Kaneis. We're allies, not friends.

he tucks his hands behind his head, shrugging. ]

[ he points in the same direction that Kaneis gestured to with his thumb, waiting for the other to to start walking before he moves as well.

and because he's actually an excitable puppy and curiosity bit him in the ass, he can't help but ask: ]

[SIGH. But the insult rolls of his back really. He starts walking further in the direction.]

Uh, couple months now...? It's hard to keep track in space.

[With...THIS Riku anyway. It was complicated. ]

riku starts to think, making a surprised noise when kaneis replies. ]

Somehow, it feels longer...

[ he's not quite sure why, either. ]

then again, Lloyd and Zelos only needed a couple of weeks before they hit it off, so he's probably not one to talk. ]

Well, I knew a Riku before- they were a roommate of a friend. So maybe it seems longer because I already knew some stuff about him.

It was just lucky that our Riku here didn't find that fact creepy.
