Gumball Wishes and Taxicab Dreams

The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

I've got my ways, don't worry about that. Though you are right that I can't exactly be expected to guard this thing at all times. We might want some kind of rotation.

[Guess who he is eyeing for a shift. Hint: it's the only person right now he can actually be eyeing.]

Subtle.

I'll take the first watch then.

You think you got what it takes? I'd hate to come back after Undyne's giving you a beatdown to get inside.

[Why Undyne? Well... why not Undyne?]

[beardstrokes]

[ Wryly. ]

I think I can manage. Besides, I'm sure you're eager to head to the new station.

[avaricious]

Eager as ever. Time to put all my hard earned cash to some good use. What about you? I'm sure you'll want to go do... whatever it is you do but in a larger space.

[beardstrokes]

[ He shakes his head lightly. ]

What I do is hardly an option on strange planets. I might keep my head down for a while.

[ He does want to find out more about the Atroma and the situation they're in. Working in a bar might help with that. ]

[avaricious]

Well whatever is that makes you happy. [A pause.] Which you really should start doing. You're really starting to bum me out.

[He doesn't need to be a Jedi to know that Obi-Wan isn't his normal self. And it's just downright inconvenient.]

[beardstrokes]

[ Glibly. ]

I was not aware I was projecting my unhappiness onto others.

[avaricious]

[He shrugs.] It's been a thing. Having a sadsack flopping around the ship is bad for morale.

[beardstrokes]

[ He softens a little. Perhaps he had been projecting his emotions too clearly. That needed to be rectified. Besides, he can tell this is coming from a place of concern. ]

I'm sorry. I'm simply dealing with a lot of new information about my galaxy.

[avaricious]

What, everything's not rainbows and sunshine? Bummer. Shame we ain't got a counselor on this rust bucket.

[His tone is almost mocking, but is somehow tempered from just being outright insulting. Greed may not have much in the way of empathy, but he does desire a functioning ship.]

[beardstrokes]

Really? And here I thought that was me.

[ He's certainly been handling all the problems so far and trying to calm everyone down. ]

No, I'm dealing with knowledge of the future. And that knowledge comes with a price.

[avaricious]

Yeah, but knowledge is also power. [He doesn't even mean that in a kid friendly go back to school way. No literally you can really fuck some people up with the right knowledge. It's kind of awesome.] So you got a magic score book about the future and that has you depressed?

[beardstrokes]

It brings up a lot of questions I do not have answers for. Even if I try to change it, can it even be changed?

For many, the future is set. Do I even have the right to change it?

[ In a way, he is set on defying it, but doubts linger, persistent. ]

There will never be a right answer but I have to ask these things if I'm going to act.

[avaricious]

Well, I haven't talked to anyone from my future just yet, but I already know how it's all going to go down. My old man has been planning a big shebang for the last three hundred years, down to the last detail. I could kick my feet up and have a pity party over all the people caught up in the crossfire. Or I could get involved so I can go spit in his eye one last time. Take a wild guess which one I plan to do.

[Hint: It's the one where he does the latter, but doesn't prevent the former.]

[beardstrokes]

[ Wryly. ]

It wouldn't be that wild a guess. I know towers that are less sturdy.

[ He rubs his beard, a little rueful. ] I'm overthinking this. I should be in the here and now.

[avaricious]

That's the answer I was looking for.

[Greed hops off the crate and as he walks by, forces a small amount of cash onto Obi-Wan. It's an unusually generous gesture.]

Once we've unloaded this junk, go buy yourself a beer or three.

[beardstrokes]

[ Obi-Wan is touched. He knows how Greed likes to hold onto his possessions. The gesture is not lost on him. ]

I'll settle for three and drink one in your name.

[avaricious]

Good man.

[He gives Obi-Wan a pat on the shoulder and moves on, leaving Obi-Wan the room to watch over.]
