Gumball Wishes and Taxicab Dreams

The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

But that's really important! [Sorey pops up onto an elbow to give Clay an admiring look.] There's one thing that universally makes people feel better, and that's knowing more about their situation. Giving someone answers whenever possible is the absolute best thing you can do. You should take a lot of pride in being able to do that!

Clay doesn't exactly have issues with his confidence or anything, save for a few insecurities here and there. But all that talk, and the look Sorey's giving him, still makes his cheeks heat up, and he looks away while he shoves at Sorey's face]

Jeez, man - I know, I'm fine - It's why - ugh.

[GIVE HIM A SECOND TO STOP FEELING EMBARRASSED]

Sorey grins when Clay shoves him and reaches over to give him a friendly punch to the chest. CUTE. Ya cute Clay, you're like when Mikleo gets all frazzled when Sorey starts being really sweet to him. People who can't take compliments without blushing are the cutest.]

Anyway, you're the captain of a ship so it's good that you're so informed. It probably makes your crew feel a lot better to know you keep on top of things.

[shut the fuCK UP

Because that's one of the things he's insecure about! The captain thing! He shifts a bit, bending his knees with some slight nerves.]

I hope they do. I mean, I try to keep on top of things, but I can't know about everything that goes on with them, you know? [he wants to be a good captain but not a stalker ok]

Yeah, I know. But that's okay. That you're trying so hard means a lot more than you think. [Sorey stretches back out on the grass.] Sometimes that's more than enough, just caring enough to try.

[geonomy]

... Mm, yeah.

[Clay looks up at the "sky", thinking about that. He does try hard for his crew, putting his all into taking care of them and doing what he can to keep them happy, comfortable and safe. It doesn't get them a lot of ratings, unlike some of the more dysfunctional ships, but honestly, he doesn't care about that. They're a crew. They're in this together. And he already knows that most of the people here don't want to be here, so why not make at least one thing about their stay here actually nice?

He lets out a deep sigh, then turns his head to look at Sorey.]

This your kind of atmosphere? The nature thing?

[monolike]

Yup. [Sorey closes his eyes against the artificial sunlight, smiling.] I grew up on the top of a mountain...there was always so much sun, and clouds all around us and a forest nearby with some old crumbling ruins. I never spent a day inside if I could help it, unless I was really researching something. Just being out here is so relaxing.

[geonomy]

[And Clay gives a quiet little laugh at that, too relaxed for anything more boisterous.]

Man, I can't even imagine living like that. I grew up in a totally opposite place; right in the heart of a big, busy city. Everything's moving there, everyone's going somewhere or has something to do, and you could never get bored there. There's always something to do there!

[He lifts his head a bit, looking towards the rest of the station.]

This whole thing reminds me of that. Even the park; there'd be parks where you could relax and enjoy the quiet times, too. [Granted, there were always people walking around, but it never stopped him from enjoying it.]

[Sorey rolls onto his side and props his chin up on his hand.] What's it like growing up in a big city? How'd you play as a little kid if there's always a ton of people around?
