Gumball Wishes and Taxicab Dreams

The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

The Order means nothing if I can't be with the one I love.

[ The Order means nothing, but Obi-Wan means a whole world to him. That thought lingers in his head, missing his Master stays in his head. It's pain and fear realized and it sticks to him, burrows into a deep place he can't reach.

A nut floating over to her serves as a distraction. ]

[resnipstance]

[ Ahsoka can't help it. She smiles, despite the seriousness of the conversation. ]

I feel like I'm learning about a whole new side of you I never knew about. I never knew you were such a romantic.

[sandhate]

[ He gives her a look, one that Obi-wan puts on when he is feeling both proud and profoundly incredulous at something he deemed ridiculous. ]

You would have done the same thing if you were in my shoes.

[resnipstance]

Sure, maybe. I don't know-- I've never really felt that way about anybody before.

But I'm not blaming you. I'm just saying-- it's nice that I've got the opportunity. Now.

[sandhate]

[ He turns to her, eyes slightly narrowing. He's reminded of a conversation with Ino. ]

Never. Not even that kid on Onderon-- Wait, no. He's a Senator for Onderon now.

[resnipstance]

Well... I liked Lux, sure. Maybe if things had been different...

... But they weren't. So there's no point in thinking about that.

[sandhate]

[ He smiles, faint but gentle. ]

I'm glad you think of it that way. I met a girl here who met someone here. There's always a possibility, if you open yourself to it.

[ He flicks another nut in her way. ]

[resnipstance]

[ This time whe Ahsoka catches the nut before her with the Force, she makes it bob up and down a little, like a dance. ]

Really? I don't know... doesn't that seem kind of like asking for trouble? I mean... people here are from all different galaxies. It's not like you can be together...

[sandhate]

[ His brow furrows. ] Ask yourself this, do we have to stop living while we're here? Life moves on even if we don't want it to, Ahsoka. And it might not be the smartest or safest thing, but being in love with someone-- you speak with your heart and not your mind.

[resnipstance]

[ Ahsoka chuckles and floats the nut back over Anakin's way. ]

Maybe. I guess I'm just not as romantic as you.

[sandhate]

[ He doesn't think anyone can love anyone else as much as he loves Padme either so.

He floats the nut out the window and watch it - literally - squirm. ]

Maybe you will be.

[resnipstance]

Haha, me? You think so?

I don't know. I haven't exactly had a lot of luck in the people I've chosen to crush on. Maybe it's not in the cards for me.

[sandhate]

[ Jedi didn't need luck. They had the Force. He shuts that thought down. He glance at Ahsoka from the corner of his eye. ]

So, there have been crushes.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka's lekku stripes darken slightly and she suddenly finds the scenery outside the window much more fascinating than looking at Anakin.]

What? Well-- I mean-- of course. I am a teenager. That's only natural, right?

But it never went any further than that.

[sandhate]

Uh huh. You can tell me now, you know. I'm not your Master and I'm not even a Jedi.

[resnipstance]

[ Ahsoka frowns, still looking out the window. She isn't annoyed at Anakin, but it's clear something is bothering her. ]

Well, you already know about Lux. [ Sort of. ]

And the other one... it doesn't matter. It doesn't really bear repeating.

[sandhate]

[ He frowns slightly, caught between wanting to know but also knowing that pushing will just open the wound. ]

Well, if you ever feel the need to repeat it.

You deserve the best, Ahsoka. And I believe you'll find it, with another or not.

[resnipstance]

[Really, Anakin? You can't guess?

Ahsoka for her part turns back to Anakin though, giving him a warm smile.]

Thank you. ... I'm not in any rush, though.

If the rest of my near future is just hanging out with you and Padmé and babysitting babies, I wouldn't mind that too much.

... You are going to let me babysit, right?

[sandhate]

[ He snorts. Before he even thinks twice about what he's saying or how he's saying it, he blurts out, bitter and harsh. ]

If they even live with us.

[resnipstance]

[Ahsoka leans in to his personal space, cheeky.]

Hey. None of that. Remember what Master Yoda always says?

The future is always in motion.

[sandhate]

[ He gives her a tight smile, then a nut flies at her forehead. ]

That's not how Yoda would say it.

You can't quote Yoda without doing the impression. That's the rule in this cab.

[Ahsoka sighs audibly and catches the nut in the air with the Force this time, just before it hits her forehead. Then she just rolls her eyes, but a fond smile betrays the expression.]

[resnipstance]

[Then in her best Yoda-voice:]

Always in motion, the future is.

[Then she pops the nut in her mouth, looking smug and ruining the impression.]

[ Horrified and disguising his laughter ]
