Gumball Wishes and Taxicab Dreams

[On today's episode of the Drift Fleet:

The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

What are they going to do!? Stay tuned to find out!

...Meaning, this is a kickoff mingle for you all to enjoy the beginning of the latest plot setting. This is a convenient place to start threads relating to the first week of the event-- meeting new crewmembers, reacting to the mysterious cargo, arriving on the station and discovering that you're all broke, etc.

Tag around, start whatever you'd like, have fun. And, as always, feel free to make your own posts and mingles from here on in, as this will be the only mod-posted one for this event!]

One hopes.

[ peggy's shrug is a mild one. brief -- but not above considering stefan's perspective on the matter. ] Mostly, it's a great deal of old articles about the sociological dangers risked when so many people lead ultimately transient lives. Somehow, I feel like I already know the ending.
stefanged: (unconvinced)

Probably, but that could come in handy down the road.

[It reminds him a little of the inept personnel the Paisley keeps acquiring. Great people, not-so-great counselors.]

In the meantime, I'll dig up what I can too. Better this than the recommended reading lists my department wants.
mucked: (☂ 'cause the hypnotist entranced him)

Oh? [ she sparks with curiousity. ] What have they got you gathering up, then?
stefanged: (making faces)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-02-05 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
Young adult literature. [He grimaces at the thought.] I'm supposed to be in charge of anything meant for teenagers, but... their taste in literature is pretty bad.
mucked: (☂ to steal the jewels)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-02-06 02:56 am (UTC)(link)
-- I wasn't aware teenagers read anything, these days. [ a brief smile. ] Although I suppose 'these days' are terrible relative.
stefanged: (that is a fair point)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-02-06 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I'd say so. They're reading, alright, but I'm no longer familiar with what people read in the 40's.

["No longer," as opposed to never knowing.]
mucked: (☂ but it's still no way to behave)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-02-06 05:46 pm (UTC)(link)
[ well. she seizes upon that: ] Were you ever familiar?
stefanged: (that's rough buddy)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-02-07 08:19 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of. [He shrugs, like he was expecting to get caught] I know a lot about US History, right up to the Civil War, but... it's been a while, so the details come and go.
mucked: (☂ i suffer mornings most of all)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-02-07 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Still. You must have taken some rather in-depth classes. [ hmm. ] What an odd detail to have learned.
stefanged: (that is a fair point)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-02-21 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
[He shrugs] They were pretty thorough, and people would pass down some of their books to their kids.

But I'm gonna admit, I wish I understood Enid Blyton's appeal.
mucked: (☂ we passed upon the stair)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-02-25 04:44 pm (UTC)(link)
Nor can I. But -- admittedly, I was a bit too old to appreciate poor, staid Enid. [ ... ] Now, Beatrix Potter on the other hand.

[ after all, peggy's childhood had been in the '20s. ]
stefanged: (slight lineface)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-03-02 07:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Peter Rabbit, right?

[Stefan hovers between being too old and too young for even Ms. Potter: his childhood was filled with "recently" published Hans Anderson tales, as well as 90's children's novels.]

I think I might've seen it in the datary. Except, this being outer space, it was more like "Peter Rabbit-Pig."
mucked: (☂ we saw you lying in the road)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-03-03 02:16 pm (UTC)(link)
Awh, now -- bless little Peter Rabbit and his little blue coat. [ a fondness seizes her expression. ] How dare they put a pig snout on him.
stefanged: (thinking about it)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-03-05 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
I don't know, it's a pretty cute pig snout.

[He can't keep that expression for very long, though; a small laugh escapes his lips as he pulls it up on his device.]

But most likely, some poor illustrator got a bad translation. I know "rappigs" exist in my friend's world.
mucked: (☂ i laughed and shook his hand)

[personal profile] mucked 2016-03-05 03:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Sounds like something of an abomination. [ dry notes. she clearly isn't all that rattled by its existence, but it is odd. ]
stefanged: (that is a fair point)

[personal profile] stefanged 2016-03-06 07:30 am (UTC)(link)
Kind of is. Unfortunately? Most of the books in my department are like that.

[He frowns, glancing down at the time.]

I uh - I should let you get back to your work.
