[ peggy's shrug is a mild one. brief -- but not above considering stefan's perspective on the matter. ] Mostly, it's a great deal of old articles about the sociological dangers risked when so many people lead ultimately transient lives. Somehow, I feel like I already know the ending.

Probably, but that could come in handy down the road.

[It reminds him a little of the inept personnel the Paisley keeps acquiring. Great people, not-so-great counselors.]

In the meantime, I'll dig up what I can too. Better this than the recommended reading lists my department wants.

Oh? [ she sparks with curiousity. ] What have they got you gathering up, then?

Young adult literature. [He grimaces at the thought.] I'm supposed to be in charge of anything meant for teenagers, but... their taste in literature is pretty bad.

-- I wasn't aware teenagers read anything, these days. [ a brief smile. ] Although I suppose 'these days' are terrible relative.

I'd say so. They're reading, alright, but I'm no longer familiar with what people read in the 40's.

["No longer," as opposed to never knowing.]

[ well. she seizes upon that: ] Were you ever familiar?

Kind of. [He shrugs, like he was expecting to get caught] I know a lot about US History, right up to the Civil War, but... it's been a while, so the details come and go.

Still. You must have taken some rather in-depth classes. [ hmm. ] What an odd detail to have learned.

[stefanged]

[He shrugs] They were pretty thorough, and people would pass down some of their books to their kids.

But I'm gonna admit, I wish I understood Enid Blyton's appeal.

Nor can I. But -- admittedly, I was a bit too old to appreciate poor, staid Enid. [ ... ] Now, Beatrix Potter on the other hand.

[ after all, peggy's childhood had been in the '20s. ]

Peter Rabbit, right?

[Stefan hovers between being too old and too young for even Ms. Potter: his childhood was filled with "recently" published Hans Anderson tales, as well as 90's children's novels.]

I think I might've seen it in the datary. Except, this being outer space, it was more like "Peter Rabbit-Pig."

Awh, now -- bless little Peter Rabbit and his little blue coat. [ a fondness seizes her expression. ] How dare they put a pig snout on him.

I don't know, it's a pretty cute pig snout.

[He can't keep that expression for very long, though; a small laugh escapes his lips as he pulls it up on his device.]

But most likely, some poor illustrator got a bad translation. I know "rappigs" exist in my friend's world.

Sounds like something of an abomination. [ dry notes. she clearly isn't all that rattled by its existence, but it is odd. ]

[stefanged]

Kind of is. Unfortunately? Most of the books in my department are like that.

[He frowns, glancing down at the time.]
