The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

[She laughs.]

Yeah, sometimes we get tourists that think they can handle it, gotta prove their manliness or something.

[She takes a sip of her beer. He's right, it is good.]

Hope he paid you enough for it.

[He rolls his eyes.]

He never pays me enough. [Sam begins to make her drink, though, even in the middle of his obvious exasperation at his brother. It's usually the common reaction Sam has to anything Dean does, okay.] But at least I can say it's funner to look back on than it is to live through.

How about you? Any siblings to piss you off?

[Her smile fades at that and she shakes her head very solemnly.]

I haven't got anybody except -

[She almost says it, "the Coven." He just makes it so easy to talk to him. Her eyes narrow a bit as she studies him. Nothing is telling her he's bad, but nothing's assuring he's good either.]

Did you mean what you said? About fighting witches and how you don't think most of them are good?

[His expression falls, fades just as hers does. When she's done asking, he sighs softly and pulls up a stool, tugging the folded sleeves of his plaid shirt a bit more securely as he takes a seat. More on her level.]

I usually mean what I say, yeah. But — one thing you got to understand. In my world? Witches aren't usually good guys. The last big witch I'd dealt with didn't have any qualms about using innocent people's lives to get what she wanted. I've been screwed over pretty bad by witches in the past. And worse, usually with witchcraft comes dangerous deals with demons. Downstairs. And that's... not a fate I'd wish on many.

[He leans back, tapping his finger on the bar.]

But this isn't my world, and I've learned from the last universe I was trapped in that it won't ever be my world. My timeline's rules were kind of useless the moment I popped up here, in another universe. And even if I were back home, I'm not one to just think in black and white.

[He shrugs.]

So unless you're trying to hurt innocent people here for no reason, I won't do anything. But... I have a feeling you'd do the same, if I were hurting good people. Nobody likes a bully, right?

Besides, I learned a few hexes from a witch, once.

I'd be pretty stupid to pretend the craft isn't helpful sometimes.

I never hurt anybody that didn't hurt me and mine first [Though that "and mine" apparently includes gators] and I never made a deal with the devil or demons or Papa Legba or any of them. I was born a witch. God gave me my powers, blessed me with powers of healin' and resurrection and they...

[She takes a deep breath.]

The bastards burned me, said I'd been consortin' with evil. That's why I don't have nobody and why I sure as hell hope I'm right in trustin' you.

[Sam nods solemnly. He doesn't seem... surprised at all. A little sad, really, but it's not new information, the idea of witches being hunted and burned. He had learned far too much about the Salem Witch Trials. Came with the territory while working. So he replies softly, in the way he does with he usual victims he comes by. Fake as his badges are, he's never feigned empathy.]

I'm sorry, Misty. Truly. That's a horrible way to go. [He's never died by fire, not really, but he's been dipped in it. Tortured. His soul is tarnished by all that, and it'll probably always be that way.] I believe you, though. There are the rare exceptions in my world of people born with their powers. Mostly psychics and fortune-tellers, but witches can be born with their abilities.

[He frowns.]

No matter how powers are received, though... it's about what you do with them.

It's about who or what you are; it's about what you do.

[It's his philosophy; it was what he clung to back when he learned about the demon blood in his body. About his powers. Even if he still has a hell of a time believing it... he tries. And he's gotten better at it more lately.]

That's what I believe too. Lord knows I ain't perfect, never have been, but... I think that's why He let me be brought here. It's another chance to find my tribe and to find my true self.

Well... I hope you find your second chance.

[Here's your sweet drink, ma'am.]

I know for sure if someone like me gets more than one chance, you're more than deserving to get one of your own. And there are plenty of really great people aboard these ships; you'll find your place and group in no time.

[Misty slides the drink towards her but doesn’t take a sip quite yet.]

I’m already ever so grateful for everyone I’ve met here. Well - most everybody anyway. I never imagined there could be a place with so many people who know about magic and aren’t scared of it. My coven… we’re so focused on just survivin’, we ain’t had much time for anything else. So it’s nice, not having to worry someone’s out to get me.

[Including people from said coven.]

[He listens intently before giving a slight nod.]

Everyone's from such different worlds — everyone ends up with friends they wouldn't have ever had, if it were their world. I think the amount of perspectives flying around make a lot of difference.

Yeah... there's a lot of expectations being screwed with here.

[Finally, she takes a sip of the drink he made for her.]

Hey now, this is pretty damn good!

[He offers a grin in return.]

Not bad, right? I'm not too shabby at this bar-tending stuff.

I mean... I've done it before, but not for long.

Well don't that beat all... a bartender who can't hold his liquor.

[Only teasin' him of course. She grins back.]
