Gumball Wishes and Taxicab Dreams

[On today's episode of the Drift Fleet:

The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

What are they going to do!? Stay tuned to find out!

[ She slowly withdraws her hand, dropping the chips back into her doll. She thought since the woman seemed kind of new, she could have used the money. And Elize likes helping. ]

Um... if you're sure.

I'm sure. I'm very grateful for you offerin' though.

[She squats down to take a look at the doll.]

Why don't you tell me about your friend here? She ain't no ordinary doll is she?

Hoppo's just Hoppo. And he's a boy.

[ "Hoppo's just Hoppo" doesn't explain much. Actually, he's genderless, but Elize tends to call it a boy like Teepo is. She doesn't sound taken aback at all, however. She's smiling. ]

I could probably make him float. I haven't tried yet. He doesn't float all the time, eat, or talk like Teepo does though.

[ Though somehow it manages to hold plenty of inventory, mysteriously. Not even Elize understands why. ]

Oh, I'm sorry, Hoppo! I didn't mean nothing by calling you a girl.

So you know how to make things float? I can do that too, though I'm still practicin'.

Don't worry. He's not upset.

[ She strokes her fingers over the doll's head, as though it were some kind of pet... ]

What other magic do you know besides making things float?

Mostly things having to do with healin’. I know how to make potions to make people feel better and to make things grow and I’ve got the power of Resurgence… I can bring somebody back to life, so long as they haven’t gotten too far into the afterlife. And I’ve got powers of Divination. That’s how I felt you and knew I had to come talk to you.

[ It all sounds fascinating, even though she's capable of healing as well. She can't make potions and it may have only been once that she has ever heard about people being brought back to life through some means. Before she can comment on anything else, she's thrown off by the last part. ]

Div-uh-nay-shun?

[ Big word! ]

That’s right. It’s like… an extra sense almost. I can tell when there’s other magic folks around and I can tell if someone’s recently passed or if someone’s sick or if a friend needs my help and sometimes I’ll get little glances of the future. Nothing like palm readin’ or anything, more like I just know I gotta be in a certain place at a certain time because something important’s gonna happen.

Oh...

[ That explanation is understandable enough for her. ]

Wow, you're so powerful!

[ Even if she hasn't seen any of it in action, except for her appearing next to her. ]

Who me? No, it's not like I'm the Supreme or nothin'. She's the one that has all the power, where I come from.

[For a while there, Misty had been convinced by Myrtle that she was the Supreme but after Hell... she knows that simply isn't true.]

The Supreme? Is that person like a goddess or something?

[ It sounds something like the great, Lord of Spirits Maxwell. ]

[Misty can't help but look offended at that... but after that initial flash of displeasure, she manages to rein it in. Elize didn't mean anything by it.]

No, though sometimes she might get the wrong idea that she is. She's the most powerful witch in the coven, is all.

[ Elize notices that brief look, shrinking a little behind her doll. She's not sure what's wrong with what she said. ]

I've never seen her or anybody else do what you were doin' there though. The ... Pixie Circle. Are there really pixies?

[ She cocks her head to the side. It's the name of the spell, though she never really thought about where it might have originated from. ]

I don't know. I've never seen one.

Accordin' to the stories they're little tiny people, with wings and magic dust and they're real mischievous.

Real mischievous? Do they play tricks on big people?

Yeah, but it's mostly harmless. Just things they find funny is all.

Oh, I see... [ That sounds normal. Like what a group of friends would do. ] Maybe they have healing powers too. That's the kind of spell Pixie Circle is.

Maybe! But that means you're a healer too? No wonder I had to meet you.

Yes, ma'am. [ That makes her realize they hadn't exchanged names yet. Only Hoppo's name... ]

I didn't get your name. My name is Elize.

Nice to meet you Elize! My name's Misty!

Nice to meet you too, Misty. Hoppo and I are honored to be your new friends.

[Aww, gosh she's cute!]
