Gumball Wishes and Taxicab Dreams

[On today's episode of the Drift Fleet:

The cargo holds are full of mysterious crates! The crews are filling beyond capacity with new faces! Official alerts are informing the passengers that they are signed to contracts that they've never agreed to! They are docking at the dazzling FS Starlight, but are flat broke!

What are they going to do!? Stay tuned to find out!

...Meaning, this is a kickoff mingle for you all to enjoy the beginning of the latest plot setting. This is a convenient place to start threads relating to the first week of the event-- meeting new crewmembers, reacting to the mysterious cargo, arriving on the station and discovering that you're all broke, etc.

Tag around, start whatever you'd like, have fun. And, as always, feel free to make your own posts and mingles from here on in, as this will be the only mod-posted one for this event!]

[Yang was taking a break from her bouncer duties at one of the Starlight's numerous clubs to get a breather and a bit to eat. As she's meandering her way around the sprawl of the massive space station, she spots a crowd gathering at a peculiar-looking restaurant. In fact, if Yang didn't know better, she'd swear that was one of the ship's in the fleet- wait, that's exactly what it was! Her curiosity piqued, she approaches the Vanquish turned restaurant. She'll survey everything, looking perhaps a little lost and confused. Perhaps she's just wondering who to talk to about being seated?]

[Eugene's been doing his share of crowd control, here at the beginning of the night, getting all of the well-paying guests seated and started on their finger-foody first courses and drinks. He's already getting to the point where he's struggling to find table space, which makes the solitary figure wandering in a promising sight. Even if the does look not quite sure of where she is.

But he has his best foot forward tonight - even if he;s not entirely sure himself whether that's the one in a fashionably scuffed boot or the one that's not much more than a curve of metal attached to the similarly silver-gray metal leg he's actually exposing tonight, leather pants rolled to the knee on the left. The whole conceit of the restauraunt is spacefaring and a certain amount of strangeness. Given that, the artificial leg practically fits in.]

Hello and welcome to Épée, our little culinary venture here on the good ship Vanquish. [He offers his hand to shake, smiling. Time to clean up nice and clean out the affluent foodies of the FS Starlight.] I'm Eugene Woods, ship's cook and host for the evening.

Vanquish? So this IS one of the Fleet's ships. I was surprised to see it looking so... well, restaurant-y.

Pop-up restauraunt. It's a one-night-only engagement. I don't think the captain would be too thrilled with us doing this full-time.

[He gives her a curious look, though not a displeased one.]

You're with the fleet?
onlyburnhotter: (neutral)

[personal profile] onlyburnhotter 2016-02-29 08:53 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yang smiles proudly at the question.]

Yup. I'm the security officer on the Bishop. Name's Yang. It's nice to meet you!

Nice to meet you too. [He has a brief laugh at himself, beckoning for her to follow him through the crowd.] Look at me, trying to sell you on the big ticket when everyone's accounts got frozen. Are you here for the full fine dining experience, or just looking for a bite?
onlyburnhotter: (Head scratching)

[personal profile] onlyburnhotter 2016-03-03 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
Just a bite, I guess. Not sure I can afford the whole "fine dining experience" at the moment.
survivalistcookbook: (oho)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-05 04:39 am (UTC)(link)
No, no. I've got some tucked away in the back for anyone from the fleet who wants to grab dinner.

[He explains as they walk, to a seating area he's set up close by the kitchens. Just a few small tables. Very exclusive.]

I figure us television personalities have got to stick together, right? Anyway- [He leans closer, voice dropping to a whisper to avoid the nearby diners overhearing.] It's pretty stupid to price-gouge someone on fancy appetizers when you're going to be trapped out in deep space with them.

[Yang snorts and then giggles at little. She likes this guy, he seems pretty funny. And plus, premo service on the cheap? Yeah, that warrants some points in her book.]

Television personalities, huh? Yeah, I guess that's about right. All right then chef, what's on the menu for this "fine dining experience" of your's?

[He even pulls out her chair, like a gentleman, voice falling into an affected drawl that can't be anything but teasing.]

For the lady-? Smoked whitefish pate with herbed flatbread and microgreens in a light vinaigrette. That's served with a white vegetable chowder and, for dessert, a mixed berry crumble.
onlyburnhotter: (sounds interesting)

[personal profile] onlyburnhotter 2016-03-07 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[Honestly, Yang only got half of that, but what does she care? It's food, right? And it sounds like good food, too.]

All right, sounds good. Can I put in my drink order, or do you have that covered, too?
survivalistcookbook: (Glancing up)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-14 05:53 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on what you want. For the upper crust out there we have water and clever concoctions involving moonshine brewed in the depths of space.

[Which isn't to say he can't scare up more, but he's selling an experience here, and that experience is at least partially spacefarer-themed.]
onlyburnhotter: (That's actually pretty interesting.)

[personal profile] onlyburnhotter 2016-03-14 08:21 pm (UTC)(link)
How about a strawberry sunrise?
survivalistcookbook: (grin down)

[personal profile] survivalistcookbook 2016-03-21 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
I . . . think I have strawberries, yes. I'll whip up something that could probably be called a sunrise.

[He's pretty sure there's still some of the juice that tastes sort of like orange and sort of like mango. That should work.]

Alcoholic or virgin?
onlyburnhotter: (sounds interesting)

[personal profile] onlyburnhotter 2016-03-21 08:52 pm (UTC)(link)
[Yang cocks an eyebrow, and grins slyly. She sees an open window for potential hilarity, and she takes it.]

Which do you think?
