[Dorian spends a fair deal of time poking around the ship before deciding to try out sending a broadcast. He's not entirely certain how he knows how to use the device, only that he does, and that almost unnerves him.

Still, his voice is pleasant, almost chipper.]

Well, if this isn't a curious little jaunt that I didn't exactly expect to take this afternoon. I do hope someone might be able to enlighten me as to where, exactly, I am...and when, for that matter. ...and where one might find passable reading material would also be appreciated.

[huh, very... chipper. She waves, attempting to match his attitude with a smile]

Hello. I might be able to answer some of your questions, although we are all working off limited knowledge, I'm afraid.

Well...thank you. I do have a few-

[He counts them off.]

One- What is your name?
Two- I am wondering how I know how to work this device.
Three- Why were we brought here?
And four- Please tell me there are adequate toiletries, including mustache wax.

Thank you.

[she pauses for a moment, stringing together all of those questions into one coherent answer]

We've been told that we were brought here to be on a television program. For that purpose, we were all... implanted with strange devices. If you touch the back of your neck, you should be able to feel yours. These devices give us all the information we need to survive out here, how to work these ships and how to understand these communicators. However, we don't know what their end goal is, or how long we will be forced to stay.

[and she tries to hide a tiiiiiny smile] But I'm afraid the news regarding mustache wax is quite dire. While I admit, I haven't sought any out, I haven't seen any on the ship.

[whew, she lets out a short breath and dips her head down in an apologetic bob] And my name is Nunnally, I'm sorry to be the bearer of bad news.

Marvelous, just marvelous.

[He sighs, irritated. He was well-aware that he was a vain man, but he couldn't fault himself for it.]

What is a...television program?

[Perhaps he could distract himself from the news that he would be looking entirely unpresentable in a few days.]

Toiletries can be hard to find sometimes. [she sighs a little, glancing down at her own sad hair. She really thought she was going to have to cut it, when she first arrived. Ah, but more important things to talk about...]

It's... mm, how to describe it. [she had been wondering why more people don't ask this question. All the worlds out there seemed so different, many were bound to be without TV]

It's a regularly scheduled program that people watch. I would imagine that there are cameras watching us all the time, and then those images are compiled and people watch it. I don't know how interesting we are to observe, but they seem to think we're worth the investment.

I'm...quite afraid that I'm going to need you to elaborate further.

Of course. I'm sorry, I've never quite had to explain it like this before.

[hmm.... she pauses again. Alright, how to break it down without preconceptions]

Hm... you see how I'm talking to you now through this device? There are machines called televisions, like this, and you can view images through them. People are using different machines called cameras to record images and sound. It's as if the camera is a person, and it can send everything that they see and hear to this television.

While we cannot see them, many of these cameras are watching us, and sending those images and sounds to many people far away who watch it for entertainment.

Ah, I understand. Somewhat like books, save that there are images that move and not merely imagination, I see.

And so we're here to be the entertainment. Marvelous.

Ah, yes that's a much better way to say it. [she logs that away, so she'll be able to pull out that simile next time]

And yes, that's also true. [aaaand yeah, she looks just about as thrilled with that notion as he is] Although we've never actually met any civilizations that watch this show.
