[boy oh boy, isn't everyone just so excited to explore this... charming... place...?

this is a game-wide mingle and the timeframe isn't super-important, so throw in with whatever you want! play war games, go shopping for gas masks, get lost in the wilderness, hide up in the Iskaulit and refuse to set foot on the moon, anything goes.

here's the main event info post for reference! have fun!]

FDR

[personal profile] bigvessel 2016-03-27 03:33 am (UTC)(link)
The Wilderness:

[This is his first actual planet since he’s been brought on board and despite the fact that the ground is polluted and the population is walking around in gas masks, he’s excited to be on a solid surface again, outside of the small confined space that makes him damn twitchy.

He figures it out quickly. It’s a part of his job to adapt, to take in a culture and blend into it, and behind a functional gas mask it’s easy to fall into the crowd. But he’s not the kind of man who appreciates museums and art work, doesn’t care much about learning the culture beyond blending into it, so he spends a lot of his on the planet-side moving around. Shopping only holds his interest for so long when there’s not much he’s interested in here.

Luckily, it seems an action packed planet so there’s enough to do. But when he isn’t participating in war games, exploring seems like something to pass the time. So he heads out into the wilderness on several occasions, a totally manly fanny pack filled with essentials around his waist, with no real intentions other than to appreciate nature in a way he never had before and do something physical.]

[ooc: Find him in the city on the way out, catch him out in the wilderness, or let me know if you want to come take a wrong step and fall into a mineshaft with him!]

War Games:

Paintball: [They had him at War Games. He’s participated in a handful of them during his career, especially during his time at The Farm and he’s quick and eager to jump right into the chaos. Partying on the space station had been fun, but it hadn’t satisfied him in the way that adrenaline pumping action does.

He’s very familiar with paintball, even more familiar with a gun in his hands, and he takes to the field like a veteran. He’s not the kind of guy that works well with a team, but if he finds someone to watch his back and shoot at his side, they’ll find a very quick loyal partner, even if he’s having to stop to show them how to hold a gun or turn off the safety. So long as they don’t shoot him in the crotch after he does so.

For anyone on the other team, he’ll be quick to shoot, and for anyone who manages to avoid a shot, well, they’ve just become an interesting target that he’s willing to go all out on.]

[ Looks like he and FDR shared similar tastes when it came to mask. Kirk had chosen a cheaper, functional mask instead of something flashier, not least because he didn't want to stand out in the forests. You never knew what kind of creatures could be out here or how they had adapted, but from the looks of it standing out like an orange traffic cone was a bad idea. It reminded him of the little lesson in evolution that came along with the Industrial Revolution - the white and the gray moths. Blending in saved lives.

He thinks he sees a human shape through the smog, and curious he makes to follow, wondering if it's a villager out to collect something and if so what, and why. As he drew closer, though, he thought he recognized this particular silhouette, even with the gas mask. The flash of gold hair and bright blue eyes sort of sealed it, but he had to laugh at the fanny pack. Really FDR? ]

Is that a fanny pack? Really?
bigvessel: (pic#8072997)

[personal profile] bigvessel 2016-03-27 04:32 am (UTC)(link)
[He's not sure what the hell lay in wait in the woods, and while he hasn't run into anything too impressive yet, he's always got his ears listening and his eyes wide. But it's not that he sees Kirk first, its that he hears the crunching of foliage under steps. And it has him glancing into the smoggy distance until a shape takes place. He doesn't recognize it at first, these gas masks are ugly as fuck and distract from important facial features, but the voice, even if its tinny, he does recognize.

His lips twist into a frown, not that Kirk can see it and he glances down at the leather fanny pack hanging off the side of his waist and he shrugs. He's always about fashion. It's important to him. But functionality always comes first. Something strapped to his waist doesn't get in the way of his hands, he doesn't have to worry about it sliding off a shoulder, or making him bulkier and easier to grab. It's small enough that it doesn't warp his silhouette and as a sometimes thief, that's important to him.

But he doesn't care to explain any of his reasoning.]

Itching to explore, are you, Captain?

[ Kirk was used to not needing long term supplies in the first place, usually having a ship hovering just out of orbit on the planet with a working teleporter. In the case they were staying awhile, they usually kept supply packs that went on their backs and could be secured across their shoulders to keep the slipping from happening. Out in the wilderness, thieves were less of an issue than making sure you could run, scale, and carry as much as needed at any one time. He had brought a light back-pack to hold the samples he took a few items, but not much else. He didn't plan to spend nights if he could help it. ]

What can I say? It's part of my job, and I am stricken with the curse of wanderlust.

[ He shrugged and scratched the back of his neck. ]

I was gathering some samples to take back to the ships too, see if the earth can tell us more about what's happened here. What about you?

[ He hadn't taken the slicker version of himself for a nature enthusiast. ]
bigvessel: (pic#8455195)

[personal profile] bigvessel 2016-03-27 06:01 am (UTC)(link)
...Wow. You are such a nerd. [He teases before wiping his hands together to get the dust off. Just being out in this environment made him feel dirty. It was a good thing that his ship had a decent amount of hot water. He was certainly pushing the limits of it with how often he felt it necessary to clean up.]

So what, you think you're gonna help these people out while you're here? That's noble of you. [As for him. Well. He shrugs.]

Staving off boredom. Can't fight in the war games constantly.
universal_charm: (That's Not Right)

[personal profile] universal_charm 2016-03-27 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
[ He took a shower like it was a religious ritual every time he returned to the main ship. Screw preserving water, he wanted to be clean. It was ruined every time he came back, but it was the principle of thing. ]

I don't know that I can solve the entire problem, but if I can help give the people here a hint on how to do it themselves, I'll do that. I don't feel right just leaving this situation as is.

[ He's that type of person, FDR. He couldn't just turn away from these people. They were making it work here, but it was wrong - twisted and wrong and it could be fixed, he knew it. They just had to find out how, uncover a clue. ]

Which ones have you been playing? I got forced to play the one with the pool noodle staffs and mud.

[ His brow crinkled in what could only be called a grimace, even though the mask hid the twist of his mouth. ]
bigvessel: (pic#8422420)

[personal profile] bigvessel 2016-03-27 01:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, good luck with that. [People here had seemed to adjust to it. And one thing he's learned in his years in the service where he's travelled to all different parts of the world, dealt with different climates and cultures and political duress, is that some things just couldn't be changed. Shoot someone, sure. But fixing their very environment? Seemed like a lot more effort than a quick pitstop was needed. So. He'll leave it to the professional world-savers.]

Uh. All of them, really. They're pretty damn fun.

[Though he catches that grimace and his head tilts to the side slightly. Really, Kirk? He would have thought you'd enjoy smacking people with bats in the mud.]
universal_charm: (Oh?)

[personal profile] universal_charm 2016-03-27 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
[ And that was where FDR and Kirk differed, wasn't it? Kirk couldn't abandon people, even to problems they had made themselves. He had to help. And this all could have been one big accident gone out of control, and who had come to help these people? The power that had sent them here? No one at all? He wasn't sure he could live with himself if he didn't at least try.

He knew it was unrealistic to expect he could outright fix the problem in the few days or even weeks they might be here. But if he got the momentum going for the people to do it on their own... that would be enough. ]

Heh, I admit the one with the racers looks kind of cool. I've been thinking about entering, but I can't tell if you need your own racer or not.

[ In which case he couldn't afford that. But it would be fun. And he sees that look, FDR. ]

The one I did play was not my choice. Some guy got mad I bumped into him and decided to take it out with a pool noodle.

[ He shrugged, because he had beaten him, but only after taking a dive into the mud once. ]

I'm not sure you can count playing chess as a war game, either.

[Max is out and about in said wilderness, because he actually likes the isolation quite a lot. He's not bothering bringing all his gear outright; he hides a lot of his goods somewhere nice and dry while he scopes the scenery, with nothing but his jacket pockets lined with simple goods and a plastic pouch made for carrying clean water. He's been spending a few days out and about here, going back and forth. Even if the air is horrible, he doesn't do too poorly in it. He even lasted better than most without the mask for the first two days.

... Granted he got sick as hell, but he'd been sicker.

He cautiously peers around one of the tunnels down into the mines, paying mind to go around it in his wanderings. Yeah, no thanks, he doesn't want to go tumbling through anything that dark and mysterious. That's a long fall, anyway. Best keep a wide diameter around it.

... Who is that wandering out there, and why do they make him feel like turning into an ostrich and shoving his head in the dirt. Oh, say it isn't so...]

[FDR is not quite so fond of isolation. And being out alone is actually kind of boring at best. He's done the survival training, doesn't find any comfort in roughing it out in the woods, but a casual exploring stroll now and then is just fine. Though he'd have a far better time if he had someone worth wandering around with.

It makes him miss Tuck. In his time here he still hasn't found someone that he feels that kind of bond with, and the paintball games only remind him of that.

But it also makes him a little...eager to find people out wandering too. Someone to walk along with even if there's not much to say. So when he spots a silhouette through the smog, he heads towards it.

And when he sees exactly who it is, because he'd recognize that forehead anywhere, he grins and picks up his pace a little.]

Hey, NotTuck! [And he waves, because why not be excessive, as he approaches him. Stops just a few feet away.] Having fun?

[Goooodammmmiiiiit.

He rolls his eyes and turns back toward FDR after a moment of considering a flee. Well. At least their last meeting wasn't as bad as the first few were. Granted he still doesn't seek the guy out for anything, but he at least doesn't always lock him out or run off. Like. He only does that half the time now.

He looks around at the question, looking at FDR like he's clearly eaten a hallucinogenic plant out of a particular radioactive desert.]

... Fun.

[I guess????

Max doesn't have fun very often, pal.]

What're you doing out here?
bigvessel: (pic#8455224)

[personal profile] bigvessel 2016-03-27 05:35 am (UTC)(link)
[Okay, he has definitely not gotten to spend enough time around NotTuck yet to know if "Fun" is just him repeating a part of his question, or answering it, or...going by that particularly constipated look on his face, confusion.]

Oh, you know. Enjoying the view.

[Sarcasm, NotTuck, gonna have to learn it sooner or later.] What about you? Looking for something to maim and cook? Or you just a nature-lover?

[Also, expect someone by your side now, Max, as you wonder. He's got nowhere else he needs to be.]

[As he feared.

He lumbers along with that signature hitch in his step of the slightest proportion. He knows better at this point to out-maneuver him in the middle of nowhere in a toxic forest. Yeah, no, not a chance. He'll have to deal. Unfortunately. Tragically.]

Both. Ate a lizard, didn't get any negative side effects.

So the wildlife might be good. Can cook it all anyway.

[Yes, I am testing the wildlife for toxins.

Hunting is very important, you know.]

[He falls into step with NotTuck, pleased that the man doesn't seem to fight it anymore. Look, progress!

And he's even using words. And having a conversation. Even if FDR wasn't actually expecting a conversation about hunting the wildlife here. Because eww.

And he turns his scrunched up expression toward NotTuck, far more interested in showing his disdain that watching his footing.]

Are you crazy? What if that shit poisoned you? You could have died, man! Or at least gotten a really upset stomach. And it probably tasted like mud. Right? Tell me I'm right. It tasted like mud.

[Not that important when they have cafeterias!]

[ Of all the games that this planet has to offer, the one that Winter is the most ecstatic about is paintball. While it's not deadly, it's been so long since he's had any sort of weapon resembling his old Colt M4A1 rifle, and he takes to it like an old friend. Anyone who happens to be on the enemy team isn't showed mercy. A quick double tap to the head or chest from his position on top of the many barricades takes out his competition before he slinks down to find another vantage point.

He sees FDR, moving quickly around a pillar. New target acquired. His footsteps are silent as he aims to get the jump on him. As soon as he's behind, his gun is raised, just above the stranger's shoulder. He fires at another player intending to blindside them. ]
