[He exhales a little sigh.]

Yourself, of course.

[ He nods. He feels very tired. Tired of explaining this, tired of the grief that follows. ]

[This time, because it is not for his own weakness, he offers Leto his hand again, another invitation.]

[ He takes it because he has made a vow. He doesn't meet Loki's eyes though. ]

[Loki tugs Leto closer, enough that he can lean to rest their foreheads lightly together. His other hand comes up to slide through Leto's hair.]

[ He shudders, closing his eyes. He knows what Loki was trying to do and he should push him away. This was against his choice, against his path. What good would it do him or humanity to falter?

But Ruby taught him that life was more than a single choice and future. ]

[Loki closes his eyes as well, tasting Leto's breath. He brushes his thumb through the man's hair.]

You are a beautiful fool. [He breathes it out like a sigh, like a secret shared with a lover.]

Someone has to be.

[ Someone had to accept the agony, his sister's voice drifts over him. He misses her intensely all of the sudden. Ghanima could make sense of him right now. Would fix his dilemma. ]

Shhh. There are many fools.

[He continues to stroke Leto's hair with his thumb. His other hand, he curls almost protectively around Leto's fingers.

He remembers, now and again, what it was like for a different him to be interested in protecting others. Even if in small ways.]

[ He sighs, letting himself relax. It was Loki. Leto could trust Loki. It didn't matter what he saw or heard. He presses his forehead closer, his palm resting against Loki's chest. ]

[Loki covers Leto's hand with his own, lets one finger trace the line of tendon and bone idly. He wonders what the man might sense there; perhaps the icy blood that flows through him, the inhumanity of it. There are subtle differences, between hearts.

At any rate, he holds his tongue on any comforting lies that tradition might demand he offer. They are both past such childish, patronizing things.]

[ They're a juxtaposition. Leto is a desert creature. He is heat and sand, the whirlwind. He destroys everything in his path, to make way for the new. He holds no expectations, he has no rules. Loki was nothing like that, ice and poison. He holds power in his voice, a power that turns inward.

He did not expect them to collide in such a way. ]

[The benefit of being fundamentally chaotic is the ability to surprise even people like Leto. Hel, Loki manages to surprise himself at times, though he does his best not to show it.

Of course, this has become something as inevitable as gravity in its own way. He moves his head to place a feather-light kiss on Leto's temple.]

[ He huffs, a small laugh. ]

Are you trying to bless me?

[He chuckles, very softly.]

And if I were?

Or would you rather I kiss you elsewhere?

Best not tempt fate.

[ But he leans to kiss Loki lightly on the lips, the gift of thanks. ]

[Loki slides his hand forward to cradle Leto's cheek and kisses him a a bit more firmly in return, though goes no further than that.]

Some day I shall tempt fate from its burrow, so that I might kill and eat it.

[ He pulls away gently. ]

I shall be waiting for that day.

[Loki lets him go. Probably a miscalculation on his part, to have gone even that far, but he's also not going to second guess himself too heavily where Leto is involved. The element of chaos is all he has.

But he does indulge himself in letting his hand linger just a bit longer on Leto's cheek.]

I am here to do the filthiest of all work.

What is filthy can be beautiful.

[ Like sharing a little joke. He cocks his head at Loki. ]

To those with eyes to see it.

[But he does smile for that, because it is funny.]
