I am pushing it, Hank. I thought you knew about these from that show you keep watching. Space Trek?

It's Star Trek and that isn't exactly - you know, the same thing as this.

Right. . . . Wait, I think I see something on the side.

[ And the video flickers on, the red light glowing softly. It focuses on two men. One in a wheelchair and the other right next to him, peering curiously at the camera before they step back satisfied. ]

Well, that’s over and done with. Hello to anyone who might be out there. My name is Charles Xavier and this is Hank McCoy. Apparently we’ve been kidnapped again, by an unknown force again for some mysterious reason.

[muttered:] Again. [and louder] So if anyone would be kind enough to explain exactly what's going on, we'd appreciate it. You have our thanks in advance.

So, you're probably going to hear a lot of not-great things about being here, and there are definitely more than enough things to be salty about, but honestly, despite the being "kidnapped and taken into space and filmed without consent" thing—which, admittedly, is a really huge point—it could be worse? Everyone's really nice.

[ "Everyone's really nice" is a . . . strange sentiment to hear. It's not one Charles hears often, not one he even believes in much anymore.

But he'd like to, so he smiles back, congenial. ]

We do tend to bond well during adversity.

And let me tell you, the food situation here is true adversity.

Isn't it always. But I'm guessing being on a ship doesn't help the quality.

If anything, it makes it worse. Everything's space-y. Dehydrated powders and gels...

[ she makes a face ]

Definitely worse than hospital food, I assume.

What about planets?

[ Charles is surprised that particular thought hadn't occurred to him earlier. ]

Do we ever come near those?

We're docked on a moon for right now. I've only been to this moon and space stations, but we do go to planets sometimes, too.

[axiomed]

[ Then perhaps he'll find out more from the planets. ]

I'm surprised they let us dock there.

Why?

Because we could potentially escape? Or is that a silly thought?

Kind of a silly thought, I think.

[ she turns her head to the side and taps on the back of her neck ]

They kind of have us tagged.

[axiomed]

[ Ah. He subconsciously touches his neck in turn. ]

That would make it difficult.

Yeah, that's one of the not-great parts. I'm not really a fan of subdermal implants.

[Kara's friendliness definitely eases some of Hank's anxiety about this whole situation. He manages a smile back]

That's - good, er - that everyone's nice, I mean, not the - rest of it. [he clears his throat] It's nice to meet you, Kara.

It's lacking some creature comforts, and some people I'd like to have around, but so far, nothing's been too threatening.

[beathach]

I hate to dwell on the negatives, but . . . is there anything that's - uh, threatening? It can't be all good things.

The vast emptiness of space?

Down on the moon, the environment is pretty poisonous, we've been told. So don't eat or drink anything you find, and wear a mask. But I've been here a few months and I haven't felt threatened at any point. Maybe you can ask someone who's been around longer?

[beathach]

[a wry smile] I think the vastness of space goes without saying.

But that's . . . mm, if I happen to run into anyone who's been here longer, I'll ask, but that's still useful to know. In my experience, a few months is, uh - plenty of time to experience the . . . less-than-pleasant.

[a pause, and then he frowns] The moon is poisonous?

Global warming from hell? It's just really polluted.

[beathach]

The moon is polluted.

It's not . . . er, the Earth's moon, I'm assuming? [he hopes??]

Not Earth-earth. Some other planet's moon.

[beathach]

I see . . . [he purses his lips for a moment] Is there information available on the moon itself?

[takingkarabusiness]

About the moon?

[beathach]

Mm. [he nods] Anything that would help me learn more about it.

The locals will probably have more information, definitely. They gave us a bit of an overview when we came but I wouldn't want to give you misremembered information.
