Masquerade Mingle

[The night has finally come--the Gravity Rush is nearly upon us! What normally serves as a large performance hall has been gutted, emptied of its boring furniture and rigged up into a fantastical mismatch of technology and old culture. No matter where you go tonight, you're encouraged to move around, dance, play games, whatever helps you sleep in late tomorrow morning.

If you aren't one for scurrying around a ballroom all night, there's always plenty of people-watching to do. After all, so many people are wearing extravagant costumes and elaborate masks. How can you even tell who is who? Get lost in a crowd of sequins, chatter with a sun and a moon, or try to beat the guy in the monster-mask at a game of cards. Meet your friends or make some new ones--this masquerade party has begun!]

It's true-- I've seen what you can do. Anyone who messes with you better watch out! You're a force to be reckoned with.

You've seen some of what I can do. I have to keep a few tricks hidden, right?

I'm holding out on everyone. If I keep them hidden, I figure they'll work better on the Atroma, when a chance for that comes up.

Careful as always, huh? I guess I can appreciate that.

Careful and pragmatic, I like to think.

And a couple of the spells are just useless, too. But mostly the first part.

[She holds a hand out.]

[well, that took her off-guard, and she is again very grateful for the mask.

but she takes ahsoka's hand anyway.]

I'll warn you now, I haven't done this in a very long time.

I haven't done it ever!

That's why I want to do it now. While I've got the opportunity!

[Ahsoka leads her out onto the dance floor anyway. She has zero idea what she's doing but at least her fighter's grace keeps her from looking too foolish.]

Makes sense to me.

[Well, in that case, she'll try to very subtly lead, so Ahsoka can at least learn the patterns to it.]

Are you here with anyone?

[Ahsoka's a fast learner, especially when it comes to movements, so she follows Nightingale with ease.]

With anyone? Oh, sure. I came with Anakin and Obi-Wan! And Padmé, of course. She's the one who picked out my dress.

[Bless her heart, she's trying, but the context of the question just went over her head. This-- normal teenager stuff-- is not her area of expertise.]

Not 'supposed to', but it can be nice.

Yeah, actually. Kitty was setting people up, so I figured...

--Oh. Um. I'm sorry. Am I keeping you from your date?

It's fine. If it wasn't, I wouldn't be here.

[fuck time, we can handwave things.]

Well-- good! Because I'm not ready to stop dancing yet.

You want to dance with me that badly? You really are flattering me.

[maybe she can't resist a little teasing.]

When else do we get to do this? Dance and dress up, I mean.

It- It wasn't actually all that rare for me, at home. It's not like it's unusual to do this sort of thing.

Really? I never got to do it. If I ever went to a party, it was usually as security.

Oh... I guess that makes sense, huh? It doesn't sound like the Jedi would be very big on those sorts of things, from what you've said.

[resnipstance]

Not really. If something ever needed celebrating, it was more likely there'd be a ceremony than a party. Or if it wasn't big enough to warrant a ceremony, you might do something small with your clan or your master, like go somewhere special to eat, or pass on a personal tradition or item.

Parties like this are seen as a waste of resources.

[experiencepoints]

They definitely are that, but... This is still fun enough to be worth it, I think. This one's way better than the ones in my world.

[resnipstance]

It's not so bad every once in a while, no.

I don't think I could do it all the time, though.
