[ In her broadcast, Kara is in her PJs, hair down and glasses off. She looks like she just woke up not too long ago and the overall vibe is very "confessional vlog". She doesn't seem distressed, just a little confused, and tired—though her eternal optimism is always there somewhere. ]

Hey, so, question: On a scale from "wow that's super weird we've never heard of something like that" to "it must be a Wednesday on the Fleet", how common is it to just like, get a bunch of "new" information from home? Which, now that I think about it, is kind of a dumb thing to ask because we have implants that give us job skills training. But I'm just wondering. Uh, in the abstract? Something like that.

Anyway, I'm going to go get some coffee and food because I'm starving. Who knew that sleeping was such hard work?

[ winn catches the broadcast - and drops what he was working on to head straight for the kitchen where he grabs the first thing he can get his hands on - and then to kara's room. he knocks on the door. ]

[ she was already up, so she'll open the door for him ]

[ because he has no earthly idea what he grabbed to go along with the coffee. he steps inside and offers her the plate and cup, taking a seat without waiting for an invitation. ]

I've heard about -- that sort of thing happening before. What...do you remember? [ is she up to his time? she doesn't seem mad, that he hadn't told her - but she could still be processing?

has she passed him? is what she remembers the truth - or is the wiring to their brain feeding her false memories? he really doesn't think it's likely that she remembers anything that should concern him about his relationship with kitty - but considering both of their lucks he can't completely rule it out either -

what does he worry about first? ]

[ she sits next to him after she takes the offerings. it'll do. ]

[ so at least that part -- is either real, or a consistent implanted memory. he puts a gentle hand on hers; he'll never get the sight of her pain and fury out of his head, nor the fear and fury he felt while she was under. ]

If you need to talk about it - [ whatever it is that comes next - it doesn't matter that he can't do anything about it back home because he couldn't do anything about it anyway. he can be there for her now. ]

[ squeezes his hand ]

Thanks. It's... you know. Not nothing? But a lot happens between that and the last thing I remember.

It's ok, I don't mind the spoilers. On -- this particular occasion. [ never ok with spoilers for his shows. even from kara. what do you mean his priorities are off? ]

I mean, it's just a lot of stuff...

And it feels weird? You're sure you're okay with me telling you stuff?

You said it, Kara - what's the point of being on the same ship with my best friend if I can't be there for her?

[ that sounds like he has something to worry about. he's already worrying about it. he may as well worry about the right thing. ]

[ he's looking as serious as he ever has. ok so her being kara's nemesis thing probably rules her out as the great love of his life - but this is still too close to what kitty was afraid of for comfort, and it makes him feel like a horrible monster. how could he do that to her? ]

Ms. Grant hired her to punish me for not being at work because... of the Black Mercy and other things. Her name is Siobhan Smythe and she's awful, Winn. I don't even know what you were thinking.

I can take a wild guess -

[ she wanted him, it's humiliating to admit that it would be that easy but after the devastating blow that was losing the last bit of hope of ever having kara... ]

So, what, she was trying to - throw you off your game? [ take her job, take her best friend, that sort of thing? god, is he so pathetic of a person that he'd let himself be a pawn to hurt his best friend for companionship?

he really doesn't want to think that he is, but that's what it's sounding like. ]

Basically, yeah. Though I think whatever you two had going on was just extra. Mostly she was trying to ingratiate herself to Cat, but Ms. Grant can see right through people like that. She fired her for poaching a story to the Planet.

But it turns out Siobhan is a literal banshee.

[ s l o w l y raising his head, tilting it, and frowning. ]

[ pressing the bridge of his nose. sometimes, even he has to wonder about himself. ]

Was it at least short? [ there's no doubt in his mind that trying to kill kara would have ended the relationship he is not that pathetic - right? right?? ]

Sorry - [ look it's a valid concern! but not his main one at the moment. he managed to betray the two people who mean the most to him with one stupid meaningless...what?

he sighs. ]

I'm really sorry, Kara. [ if only he could just fix things with kitty with an 'I'm really sorry'. how will he tell her about this? ]

I'm not really that upset, except she's awful, but that's not really—I mean, you're capable of making your own choices, and I like that you want to date people. I just like Kitty a million times better.

Maybe don't get too attached -

[ he mumbles, aimed at himself as much as at kara - if she'll want to dump him for this, after what she's been through with her last boyfriend...he won't be able to argue. he won't feel right about arguing. his heart already feels like it's starting to break, and all over a stupid mistake stupid future him stupidly makes.

he really hates that guy. ]

Ok, so 'I make the worst dating choice: the musical', aside - what else is going on?

[ he runs a hand through his hair, clearly uncomfortable. he shouldn't say anything, this is kitty's story - but if she dumps him, kara's going to want to know why.

but that's a problem for future dumped winn. he really doesn't want to be that guy. ]

I'm just -- getting ahead of myself, [ he puts on a smile for her and shakes his head ] don't worry about it, I'm sure we'll be fine.

[ does it make him a bad person to want them to, when they got this glimpse of how he could potentially hurt her? heck, this alone is cheating. he's already hurt her. goddamn. ]
