Enough unpleasant metaphors for the night. You're making it hard for me to be shallow and enjoy this. Honestly, I don't really care about their reasons.

[Crowley chuckles softly, clinking his glass against Felix's ]

No more morose bullshit then. Let's be shallow and critique other people's outfit choices, you always do so enjoy that.

[Felix smiled sharply as he watched the crowds of people move about on the dancefloor, a confusing but mesmerizing swirl of colors and styles.]

Starting with the fact that most of the men from the fleet have apparently never heard of any colors besides black and white? [A pointed but playful side glance at Crowley in his tux]

[Crowley sends Felix a rueful smirk in return for that jab. ]

Maybe they just happen to have an exquisite sense of style missed by many? Maybe that's why.

My many you mean me? I just happen to think it's a masquerade, and you should employ a little bit of imagination.

[Says the man wearing a suit in exactly the same style he's been wearing for a decade]

[The smirk just grows, holding a certain tone of smugness to it. ]

But I wasn't just talking about you. [He does, however, turn to face Crowley more directly] Though, on that subject, it does give me motivation to get this off of you later.

[He taps the brim of the demon's tophat with a finger. Felix personally does not do hats. Nothing ever touches his hair beyond maybe a bit of ribbon]

[That, at least, gets a wide smirk. ]

Well, well, I'm always happy to motivate you in that direction.

[He will absolutely take that as a compliment. ]

Good. I spent far too much of my money on it to see it go to waste.

[He takes a sip of his wine, giving Crowley a last sly smirk before he turns the subject to less suggestive topics]

So how many people have tried to get you to dance so far?

I couldn't do such a terrible, awful thing to you then. It'd break my poor unbeating heart.

[That gets a low chuckle out of him. It's always a risk, coming to a party, that people will expect you to dance. Especially if you happen to look like you belong there, smoozing about the place and suchlike. ]

Far too many. They've all been tragically disappointed with the answer too. Poor buggers.

I've been disappointed for years. At least I can profit from the misery of others.

Of course you can. You watch watch them with a sense of smug satisfaction as they walk away, head low and dejected.

Maybe play them a little tiny violin in your head for them.

I'm not sure what the size of the violin has to do with anything.

It's a manner of speech. The violin is tiny because it mirrors hw much of a shit you actually give. Ie: very little.

Strange how? If anything, you are the one who fits in the most. You seem much more at ease, than most everyone else I've seen here tonight. Aside from this planet's residents, of course.

That's what I mean. I have little in common with the people here and yet...at least tonight...it feels a bit like home.

[He leans a little closer and adds in a lower voice] Minus the scurrilous gossip and maneuvering, that is. That part I find I do not miss quite so much.

Perhaps you should consider a vacation home here.

It is typical then for balls like these to be filled with gossiping? Have we been missing out on a customary tradition?

It does add something to the occasion. I wouldn't mind a little friendly gossip for old times' sake, if you have any to share.

[Which is totally honest, really. He doesn't keep up with the other ships much but that doesn't mean he's not interested]

The Fleet is so small, it is unlikely that any of us could do anything that the others' would not find out about.

[He glances at the dance-floor, where townsfolk and fleet members mingled, almost impossible to tell from each other in the sea of color and music]

People have ways of keeping their secrets.

[Felix smirked] I've been called peacock once or twice in my life. It seemed the way to go.

[Besides, it's pretty much his usual, with some embellishments. He's probably one of the few people who has every intention of reusing parts of this outfit on the regular once this ball is over. It would be a waste, otherwise]

I don't know what you think of, but by court I mean our government - the Lord Protector and the various lords and ladies of office beneath him.
