[ There's not a whole lot going on directly outside the building, since most of the guests are excited to get out of the toxic air and into the party rooms beyond... But if you're waiting for a friend, a date, or maybe hesitating about whether you want to go in at all, this is where you'll start.

There are several costumed people outside checking to make sure that everyone has a mask--you won't be let in without one! There are also vendors on the front steps selling cheap little masks (both decorative and air-filtering) for any last-minute shoppers. ]

THE BALLROOM

[This performance hall is part of an old, historic building. Dating back to a time before the persistent grime and pollution, the wooden floor has seen the shuffling of many feet during its life. Now, the old hall has been dressed up for the celebration, draped in expensive geometric tapestries and glittering garland. The ceiling has been rigged up with a digital display screen, making it look as though a colorful nebula is swirling gently above the crowd. A large, antique chandelier in the middle catches its light, refracting it back in fleeting little rainbows all over the room.

Guests who walk in may find themselves swept up in a sea of costumed people--natives in all kinds of strange outfits are dancing, mingling, and moving from one end of the hall to the other. A live band is playing a range of classical and more fast-paced, electric beats, which means the dance of the moment may be anything from a slow waltz to bouncing along with the crowd near the musicians.

For those who aren't really interested (or for anyone who needs a break), there are comfortable chairs and couches grouped together along the far wall of the ballroom. Whether you're lounging around with your friends or just trying to escape the crowd, a friendly server may come by to offer you some filtered water or a tiny cheese snack.]

Felix Harrowgate

[Felix arrives to the masquerade arm-in-arm with Crowley, making the gaudy splash of color he's arrayed himself in stand out all the more against the demon's usual somber black. He is a literal peacock this evening, the patterned coat and vest he wears resplendent in brilliant blue and green, stark against his black leather trousers. His mask is an elegant affair in blue and gold, framed by his deep red hair. His ever-present gold and garnet rings seem as incongruous as his curls, but rather tie in the winding gold, green, scarlet, and azure vines tattooed on his hands.

It's clear that he's finally in his element. The beautiful hall, the music, the dancing, the absolute grandiose ostentatious of it all is absolutely everything he might have wanted and everything he has missed from his old life. The memory doesn't hold him down like it once might have, but rather buoys him, lifting him out of his worries and into the spirit of the evening. It's a sharper, brighter, even more outgoing version of himself, one that might have once been edged, but tonight it's almost entirely genuine.

He carries himself with confidence as he moves through the crowd. He doesn't stay at his lover's side at all times, especially when there's so many people here to meet. He will dance with anyone that asks (and he shows skill at least in the technical dances) and talk to everyone he meets, even if it's simply a bright smile followed by an equally bright--]

THE SNACK TABLE

[ This moon may have been rather disappointing in the food department so far... But anyone who makes a bee-line for the snack table (you know who you are) will probably be pleasantly surprised!

After all, this is the day where everyone in the city cracks open their "for a special occasion" foods in celebration. Several long tables near the entrance are covered in plates of bite-sized morsels, and everyone is welcome to help themselves. Your choices include tiny cheeses, crackers, dried meats, picked vegetables, pickled fruits, pickled... pickles... And a number of fancy proteins in a variety of fun flavors, all of which are of a much higher quality than whatever the protein machines back on your ships make.

For those looking for drinks, there are a couple of punch bowls on the end--though they're being carefully watched by a party representative who will serve you up a cup if you ask for it. Sorry kids--no spiking the punch this evening.

However, if you'd like to purchase an alcoholic beverage, they are available at their own table. Again, the servers will be keeping an eye out and cut anyone off who might be becoming belligerent--but until then, the option is there. ]

[ Isaac doesn't exactly want to be in all of this madness, especially wearing the dumb mask that he's been given, but that's just the way of things on this weird moon planet. Isaac definitely hasn't dressed up -- not outside of some dark slacks and a hoodie he bought with some bizarre alien script on it. It's better than the jumpsuits, after all.

He spends a few minutes searching for Davesprite in the crowd. Something still seems off, though, when he thinks about the bombardment of messages, the weird rambling. Isaac isn't feeling great himself, and the mask at least hides the bags under his eyes. It's hard, being this close to the moon when his transformation is looming around the corner, but something told him he needed to make an attempt to find Davesprite. This ball, after all, does seem a little lame.

He practically runs into him, rounding the snack table, considering some of the food. ] I didn't know this many kinds of pickles existed. [ That can be code for 'hey are you okay' right? ]

GAMES ROOM

[ If dancing really isn't your scene, maybe you'll have a better time in here! Located in one of the side-rooms of the performance hall, they've turned the space into a sort of games lounge for anyone who wants to engage in a little friendly competition.

Around two-dozen board games have been set up on tables in the middle--most of which look kind of like the board games you'd find on Earth, but with different names, rules, and pieces. There are also plenty of people playing card games, throwing darts at dartboards along the wall, playing something that looks kind of like shuffleboard, or crowding around the line of cheesy pinball machines at the back of the room (which are free to play, by the way!). ]

GREEN MUSEUM

[ Another side-door in the ballroom leads to something called the "green museum". Curious visitors are welcome to enter, though a party representative will warn them to please watch their step--as they wouldn't want any of their rare plants or insects to be accidentally stepped on.

The green museum is a huge, beautifully-constructed set of rooms used to preserve species of flora and fauna in the hopes that they may one day be re-introduced to the moon's ecosystem. The walls are made of curved glass and held together with gently-sloping metal bars, giving it the appearance of a gigantic bird cage.

Plants of all shapes and sizes have been strategically planted to copy how they would grow in nature... So guests are welcome to wander the paths between green, leafy trees, or have a sit-down on a cushioned bench in any of the beautiful flower patches along the way. The space is dimly-lit by strings of hanging lights, but fireflies and small, faintly-glowing moths are also helping illuminate the area. ]

Maglor, OTA + continuations

Maglor was delighted to find this haven of green - he may be Noldor, not Sindar or Silvan, but the sheer amount of pollution, the way he can hear the world's Song mourning beneath it's burden, had all but broken his heart. In here, he walks barefoot as his foreparents once did, voice raised in lilting song.

He is dressed in ocean colours - sea-green armor over Finwean blue robes, and in concession to the occasion his hair is begemmed in a very particular braiding pattern, even if only he and Finrod can read it. His mask dangles idly by its straps and his fingers dance across the strings of his harp, as he sings of green growing things, of deep strong roots and nourishing rain, of sunshine after winter and spring blossoms.

His voice is probably clearly heard throughout the room - his father did essentially name him 'the loud one' for a reason - but it blends in to the room so seamlessly that you might not realize it is singing, at first.

BALCONY

[Lastly, there is a set of stairs at the far end of the room that leads to an outdoor balcony (after a quick decontamination scan, of course).

It's pretty empty compared to the rest of the party; most of the guests up here have just stepped out for a quick smoke, or are trying to get away from the noise for a minute. Like with the rest of the moon, passengers shouldn't stay out here for very long without some kind of a gas mask or respirator.

This spot has a nice view of the city, though. You can even see a little bit of the ocean from here, where the first licks of smog are starting to swirl at the surface... The phenomenon won't affect anyone at this distance, but it's a striking sight none-the-less.]

[There's going to be a lot of dancing tonight. Fortunately, for you and Kitty she has the energy and stamina for it. She might just pull you into a dance if you don't step up on your own! She's also attending with her boyfriend, Winn. So, don't be surprised if you see her going back to him between dances with others.]

[Even heroes get hungry! She's pretty excited about the slightly better quality food. That's sad, isn't it? She hasn't bothered with the alcoholic selections tonight, but punch is a nice refresher after so much dancing.]

[He wasn't going to come to the masquerade. Yes, it had been a perfect excuse to get the sort of fabric he'd been craving working with, and enough time to craft a new piece to wear, but... a masquerade? He's not enough of a people person when he's not working for something like that.

So he thought, anyway. But it's been so quiet that he finally decided to just... do it. Hours of preparation later, and he'd finally stepped into the ballroom, carrying the longest lengths of gauzy fabric so that they only barely swish against the ground. It's an elaborate costume, from head to toe - a carefully-sewn hanfu, with his hair pulled up into gentle circles and decorated with flowers, beads, and gold-coloured strings; the soft makeup that fills out his small lips and accents the shape of his face; a dragon mask of the same colours as the dress muting said makeup beneath its intricate curves.

Inside, he takes a deep breath and sweeps his gaze across the room, trying to see if he even recognises anyone - a herculean feat, what with the attire here. Another deep breath and he starts across the ballroom, soft shoes padding under him as he takes in the room as a whole. So many people whirl and shift on the dancefloor, and he's sure the cycling colours are liable to make him sick in moments... but it's a captivating sort of thing, one he's a little unsure he wants to break into, or if it's even safe for him to do so.

For the most part, he can be found people-watching, settled to one side in a costume that makes him stick out; occasionally, he might be found stepping into or out of the throng, depending.]

Technically, it's a historical costume, but there was a pretty big revival of it a little more than ten years ago. It's from the Han era, and it stopped being worn before that in... [He pauses to think, not bothered by her inspection at all - it's very carefully done, all hand-sewn (he really needs to get a sewing machine made, oops).] I guess it was the early 1600s? And I came from about 400 years after that.

[ winn has slaved away at making costumes for his friends, leaving very little time for his own, so he resorted to making a jacket to throw on simple store bought clothes. his handmade mask, however, is suited up for him. whenever kitty dances with someone else, he can be found leaning against the wall of the ballroom, watching her with a fond smile, or at the snack table because these opportunities have to be seized, ok! but he's not about to wander off too far from her. ]

[sara had almost not bothered coming, but something drew her to the party anyway. maybe it's boredom -- probably what she'd tell you, if asked -- or maybe there's something about the locals putting so much into a celebration on their poisoned moon that even she can't help feeling something for. she tried to keep it simple, wearing a black dress and matching black mask as she takes in the festivities.

she doesn't dance, but she does watch, making a slow and subtle way around the room that has nothing to do with nefarious intentions and everything to do with her background -- she doesn't mean to sneak up on people, but it's kind of an old habit. maybe she does startle you on accident, or maybe she finds herself standing near you with one of those fancy cheese snacks in hand.]

I'll admit one thing: these people know how to party.

she spends some time around a few of the games, from throwing darts with surprising accuracy to contemplating some board games. if you've talked before, there's a chance she'll brandish a pack of cards your way -- to teach you poker or go fish, or try to figure out some moon game.

she can also be found sitting in the green room for a while, sitting among the plants quietly. there's something achingly beautiful about the place, and she finds herself thinking how she still can be awed by beauty somehow. she'd love to show this place to laurel.]

[ it is an odd concept, a celebration with water rather than wine. odd, certainly but at the very least there is cheese supplied. margaery tyrell arrives at the ballroom on her own in the Southorn style of highgarden and a matching mask in gold tied just beneath long brown locks styled in the manner of her house.

she is as light on her feet at the butterfly she is dressed is, floating around the room, smiling and lacing arms and whispering tiny nonsense in people's ears.

still, the little queen is traditional. she will usually wait for others to invite her to dance.

She can also be found walking around the green museum, her look fitting right into the place. it's a tiny reminder of home and she can be seen tracing the outline of leaves with a finger or bending to look and smell the flowers, daring to pick one and lace it in her hair. ]

1. BALLROOM.

[Shinji arrives at the party's main event with two dates, believe it or not, which is more or less an accident on his part. A very awkward accident. He's often with one or the other or both of them, but there are times when he wanders away, trying to give himself the space to breathe. The glamorous ballroom offers plenty of opportunities for being a wallflower (does he even know how to dance?) or grazing at the snack table (yeah, he's eating his feelings).

Even now, he's nervously chewing through a handful of crackers. He feels distinctly out of place, distinctly visible, since he's wearing an outfit that feels too bold for someone boring like him. His yukata is the handmade product of a week's worth of out-of-control anxiety. It's in a dark blue fabric with vertical streaks of lighter colors, encircled by a golden yellow obi that he chose at the last minute. The mask is nothing special, though. Just blue on blue with a splash of glitter.]

It's nice of them to let us participate, [he says, mostly to himself.] And the free food doesn't hurt...


2. GREEN MUSEUM.

[Eventually, Shinji finds his way to the Green Museum after eavesdropping on a few conversations. He's really surprised with the green plant life and the dreamy insects; they give him hope, real hope, that the moon will be revived with enough effort.

He's less enthused when the glowing moths decide there's something attractive about him. A minute into wandering around, he notices a moth hanging out on his upper arm. He remembers the party representative's warning about not trampling the wildlife... and another moth flutters in, landing on his shoulder.] Uh...

[Before long, this boy is frozen awkwardly in the middle of the path, trying not to disturb the moths perching on him. His voice is quiet but panicky:] A little help... here? Please? Anyone? [The moths brighten with contentment.]


3. BALCONY.

[And, as expected, the growing excitement of the party is too much for Shinji to deal with all night. The nearest and quietest place for him seems to be the outdoor balcony. There are a few couples embracing each other in earnest--they get a flat-eyed look from Shinji--but for the most part, this is a good place to unwind. He approaches the railing and peers over the side... His LED-covered face mask flickers and chirps, beginning to filter out the poisonous air. He's tempted to rip it off, though. Long story.

The swirling fog in the distance catches his attention.]

That's not ominous at all, [he says bitterly, then hopes anyone nearby didn't hear him. His negativity can be embarrassing.]

It's an anger that Hank understands well. He can't help but frown himself, some of the anger peeking through as he makes an agreeing noise mixed with a low growl. It was both similar and different from Kyriakos, because at least there, you knew when people went home; here, it's a guessing game whether or not they did]

I haven't seen a pattern either, and that's about what I've heard, too. It's a little frustrating to think about.

[Even though he'd arrived and was there for the duration, Simon still wasn't sure if going to this party was the right idea. Part of him wanted to forget his old life as much as he could, as he knew that he would never go back to it, and going to fancy parties was definitely a part of that life. He'd gone to so many as a child and a young man, though, it was also old hat... and he definitely had to get out more.

So there he was. He'd occasionally lurk on the edges of the party, but every now and then he might ask a lonely-looking lady for a dance, or even teach people steps if it looked like they were stumbling.]

[Clay isn't one for dancing in a place like this, as these kinds of social events aren't really his thing. Nor is dressing up all fancy or wearing a mask like he is. But hey, he was asked to come, and so he did.

But just because he doesn't really want to be here doesn't mean he won't have some fun. He'll chat it up and laugh it up with other people, especially those he knows, and have a good time all in all. Though more often than not, he'll snag himself a comfortable chair and lounge back, looking up at the ceiling with barely concealed awe. That's a really nice simulation up there. Maybe he could make one for his own room...]

GAMES ROOM

[Okay, Clay really likes it here. Once he realizes there even is a game room, he makes a beeline towards it, sits down by the tables and gets a feel for the rules, how to play, etc. There's one particular game called War: The Squandering that sounds similar to a game he knows about at home, though he's never played it himself. Judging by how he sits with a self-satisfied grin on his face while his second opponent groans in defeat, however, he's picked up on the rules pretty fast.]

GREEN MUSEUM

[And, of course, Clay can't pass up the opportunity to research the fauna here. He sits carefully, taking in the greenery and studying them carefully. He thinks about taking a soil sample back with him and wonders if he could get away with it - they wouldn't miss just a tiny bit of dirt, right?

Apparently they would, because he's trying to rapidly explain himself while one of the security guards drags him out of the museum by the collar of his suit jacket.]

I'm sorry, it's just - I need to see what the soil is like with thriving plants, it's part of my study, I swear I'll bring it back - !

[Since she had spoken with Allen a little earlier, Wanda was able to fairly easily identify Clay, even through his fancy formal attire and mask. Wanda smiles, when she catches sight of him. It felt like it had been a while since she last had the chance to talk with Clay, so she slowly makes her way over to him. She wasn't sure exactly just how well her own outfit and change of hairstyle disguised her identity, but it would be fun to test with Clay. She makes sure to stay just out of his line of sight, until she's walked up right next to him. Trying to sound a little more older and sophisticated, she clears her throat to announce her presence and smiles politely at Clay.]

<sub>[ He had felt well enough to come down and enjoy the festivities (of course a doctor might have disagreed with this self diagnosis, but he was notorious for not listening to them anyways). Besides, he wanted to do something fun that didn't involve potentially falling in mud, and a part - especially a masked party screamed of fun.

Plus there was dancing. He hadn't done that in quite awhile, and it suddenly sounded like a a lot of fun.

He came dressed in a simple harlequin mask and a tastefully subtle suit. He was one for being flashy in his actions, not his dress. Besides, he liked the cut of it and he hadn't been to expensive. All wins.

He didn't particularly come with anyone, and even if he had, he would still be as happy to dance with anyone as he was now. He flashes winks and charming smiles, ready to hit the dance floor. ]</sub>

Snacks
<sub>[ Kirk had found himself hungrier ever since he'd woken from his coma - not a lot, but just that slight increase that made him think of his teenage years when he would push anything and everything down his gullet to quiet his stomach. And he's curious to see what these people would consider upscale enough for a party.

A lot of pickling, so it seemed. But there are other things that are even better quality than their ships, and he indulges in those with glee. He picks out a hefty plate and makes his way over to the side to enjoy the meal with a few obvious sounds of delight when he found a morsel he particularly enjoyed and watched the people mingle. Of course he gets himself at least one drink, willing to shell out for a good scotch or at least the approximation of it.

Of course, he'd always welcome a little dinner conversation. ]</sub>

Games
<sub>[ As much as Kirk likes dancing, eventually the press of people and the heat from the bodies becomes a bit much and he finds himself in need of space. He would say air, but since the air outside is, well, somewhat toxic he'll have to make do with a less crowded room.

He comes across the gaming room and lights up in delight, stopping short of clapping his hands in glee. They aren't quite what he knows, but he's seen the people playing them around town, so he thinks he has the general idea of how to play them - which totally counts, right? And card games. He likes those two.

Mostly he sticks between the board game that is most similar to chess if he can get anyone to play with him, enjoying a few rounds of darts (which he is not precisely good at, but he gives it his best shot and that's what's fun). And of course the pin ball machine. Have to get that high score right? Don't mind him as he bites his lip in concentration. This is absolutely serious business, you know. ]</sub>

Green Museum
<sub>[ Naturally at one point he has to come and explore the 'Green Museum'. Frankly, he's stunned by what he sees, and the explorer in him is practically vibrating. New flora. New fauna. Things unseen by Earth humans as of yet. It made him yearn for his proper Star Fleet equipment to try and take readings, or negotiate for samples. But for now all he had was his own eyes and ears.

He is almost reverent as he walks the dimly lit paths paths, pausing at plants and animals that especially catch his attention, peering at them as if he could commit them in their entirety to his memory. It was all he could do, really, absolutely planning to write about them when he returned to the ship.

For the first time since arrive in the Fleet, perhaps, Kirk looks as close to his element as he has ever come, his face rapt as he explored in the quiet. ]</sub>

Leto - Ballroom

[Dany arrives along with countless others, in awe of the lavish details that had gone into the decorations and the food. Her Mask is set firmly in place, but she might be easy to find all the same, her long silver-blonde hair drawn in intricate braids that weaved together down her back. There were three sets that met from either side of her head to rest at her nape, symbolizing the three cities she had conquered. The rest of her hair draped over her shoulders beneath the plaits, silver curls that fell down her back like rainwater.

As she looks around the massive ballroom, taking it all in, she stops long enough to pull one side of her gown to keep the hem from catching on her shoes. It was beautiful, though she wished for the open sky above her head that was without the poseonous air.]

Snack Table

[Dany stood to one side, a plate of some cheese and fruit and crackers in one hand and a glass of some clear looking alcohol she had never tried before in the other hand. It made her throat burn going down but the food made up for it. Craning her neck a bit, she tries to see if she can spot anyone familiar among the sea of masks. [Truly, Dany had not realized it was her, beneath all of the decoration. She wore it like armor. The only things she recognized were her russet curls and the sound of her voice.]

I trust the evening is treating you well?

[Daenerys took the girl in, finding the outfit rather well done for a costume. It was detailed and intricate, not unlike something one might see in Quarth or one of the richer parts of the Free Cities.]

[Kurt had fully intended to pick up a nice suit and a decent mask and call it good. But then he sees a coat that reminds him of the pirates in the old films he'd loved as a child and an idea is born. Many, many bottles of temporary dye and a liberal application of stage make-up later, and the Mostly-Monochrome Pirate walks into the hall. He's wearing a mask with an eyepatch over his left eye, covering where the dye kept washing off the red mark in his fur. A few dull gold rings have been threaded onto his tail, catching the light as it moves.

In the early evening, Kurt spends the majority of his time in the ballroom. He's the most social here, taking any excuse he can to coax a partner out onto the dance floor. Kurt's had enough practice dancing that he's good at it, and is enjoying the excuse to move, show off what he can do or teach a partner who isn't as sure-footed or experienced. For those friends new and old that simply can't be convinced, he's happy enough to stand along the edges and catch up.

He drifts between the ballroom and the snack table, which might as well be renamed the bar for how often he gravitates toward the alcohol. As the evening progresses he gradually becomes more intoxicated, and doesn't even have the decency to stagger or slur his words. Kurt just becomes more animated in his gestures, much more likely to punctuate words with a touch on the arm or be casually affectionate to people he knows.

In the later hours, Kurt's switched to water and started wandering through the green museum. His shoes are held by his tail at this point, and the man himself is as likely to be found laid out on one of the comfortable benches as he is picking his way along various paths.]

Erik Lehnsherr - overflow

[It was touch and go, for a while, deciding whether to come to the masquerade or not. In the end, a change of pace and a chance to spend time off the ships and without a gas mask decided it for Erik. The opportunity to get some clothing tailor made was also hard to resist. For a masquerade, he's gone understated, wearing a fine grey suit and black turtleneck shirt. The mask however is a concession to flair, awrought metal affair with the embellishments picked out in dark red. He enters with Charles, but can often be found drifting around the edges of the ballroom. Any locals asking him to dance get waved off with a shake of his head - it's the scene he's observing, more than taking part himself. But he blends in well, moving through the crowd with the kind of confidence that would put a seasoned party-goer to shame.

Later on, he scopes out the snacks table. While he takes food occasionally, more often he's observing the staff guarding the punch, with rather more intensity than the poor men deserve. 

As the evening grows late, he takes up some darts idly in the games room. It starts idly, at least. It doesn't take long for others in the room to notice that all of Erik's darts sail straight to the bullseye, no matter how casually he throws them at the board.]

[After spending some more time watching people dance, Wrath heads back into the games room to see if Charles is still there. Maybe they can play more chess or something. Instead she spots someone she doesn't know, throwing darts. Now that's a game she likes, though she has yet to ever play it sober.

And while she's good, she's not nearly as good as this guy.]

Richard Castle

[Castle quickly put together an outfit and regally swept into the masquerade ball after realizing he'd been shut up for far too long. It was time, he thought, to try moving past his fears that he was dead and one of his rare depressive, reflective moods and be social again.

His outfit was a not-to-subtle nod to the sidekick of one of his favorite caped and cowled superheroes, with black pants, a gaudy red blazer complete with an "R" (for "Richard", of course, he would tell anyone who asked) emblazoned on the chest, a black domino mask and a cape. For once, he left his loyal cleaning bots on the ship, mostly because he feared they might well work themselves into a frenzy and explode here.

So he could be found chatting, and dancing (either with a partner or nobody in particular), and eating, and generally enjoying the night.]

Let Robb explain this.] Back home there is this lord who is so fat that they need to put him inside a litter. Gods be good, I pity the men who have to carry that around. He weighs at least a thousand stones! [Robb widens his arms to give Sokka an idea of how fat lord Manderly exactly is.] The man eats everything. I have heard my lord father sigh greatly many times at every announcement from White Harbor that their lord would come to pay us a visit.
