[She laughs softly.] I threatened his friend so I'm sure the tears were a step up.

Oh. [ Hermione blinks, uncertain for a moment. ] Are - are things alright now?

They're looking up. McCoy's...not someone you want around in my world. [Toning it down since she doesn't want to give Hank a bad reputation he doesn't deserve now that she's mellowed about him.]

But he's alright in this one. [ Hermione is firm on that. She's already told Hank that she means to defend his honour, in a way, and that's not something that's going to disappear - but she does soften, offering a smile. ] It must be hard, when he's so different here than he is in your world.

He's fine here. [Just confirming that she's aware. And more than fine really. She even likes him. She'd even almost call him a friend if part of her didn't rebel so hard at admitting it.]

I'm used to differences between the realities, but this is...a big one.

I'm still getting used to it myself. There are people from my past here, people that I knew when they were older, and - [ She shakes her head, frowning. ] It's just strange. But I'm working on it.

[Nodding.] Erik's supposed to be a lot older too. [Charles would have been if he lived.] It would be stranger if it weren't for the different reality stuff already covering a lot of that.

Are yours like you expected except for the young?

It makes things a little easier to manage - and coming from another world before this one means that I'm almost used to it. [ She shrugs a shoulder absently, rubbing her hand against the scarring on her face. ] They're exactly how I imagined them, honestly. I heard a lot of stories, and that might have made things easier too. I just... Knew them already.

Yeah, it's a lot easier to land on your feet the second time around. Just means you have an extra group of people to miss. [Or mourn depending on how far you want to take it. She doesn't expect to see anyone again, but she never expected Kurt to be from her version of her world and he's here.]

You're right. It's harder, missing family that aren't from your home world. Being stuck here means you might never see them again, ever, and I do my best not to think too hard about that. [ She already misses them all so much, and the hole in her heart is bleeding constantly despite how she tries to keep a smile on her face. ]

You think you'll get home? [She wonders. Not so much for herself. She's dead there. Getting home is no goal or reward of hers. But she wonders if anyone ever gets there or if you just float from one of these prisons to another once you're in the system.]

I'd like to think so. It might not be easy, but there's always a way to beat the impossible. [ Like defeating Voldemort, or literally travelling through time to save the world. There has to be a way, and Hermione is particularly determined. ]

Hmm, and leave all the protein gels behind? Such sacrifice. [Kidding, but of course there are things to miss even if it does work. Like all the people she's gotten close to who aren't from her world. Or, you know, living if that's how it goes down.]

Oh, I'm sure we'd figure something out eventually. [ It's easier to joke about it, she supposes - the idea of going home or not going home feels like too much and it makes her chest ache ever so slightly. ] Or we can just remake them at home, for the nostalgia.

As long as we don't do it for the eating. [She doesn't want to think too hard on going home either. Nothing good is in that direction.] Did you want to dance?
