That's rough -- Kara and I just figured out I'm from her future, but not by much. [ even that small difference is enough to weigh on him, though. a lot happened, that he doesn't want to burden her with -- but at the same time he feels like a liar keeping it to himself. at least she isn't asking questions. ] Did he change much?

Enough. [ -- but her expression flickers for a moment. she feels sympathy for winn, and for the shared burden of being even a little bit ahead of a loved one. ] He changed enough. A lot did. But I've decided I can't hold him accountable for choices he hasn't yet made.

[ that sounds like a bad sort of change, he can't imagine having to deal with that...though he can't really imagine kara changing for the worse in any way, so it figures. it feels like the sort of impossible situation that could drive him insane. ]

I'm sorry, that sounds like a lot to deal with... [ he won't press but he tries to make it clear that he's available, if she ever needs a friendly ear. ]

Oh, and it is. [ a lot to deal with. ] But we're all adults, here. Even Clint, when it comes down to brass tacks. He's had more dealings with fractured timelines and split universes than me -- he'll understand.

[ she hopes. ]

Ordinarily, I wouldn't mind spilling every bean. But at his point in time, he just overcame a huge obstacle. He got a really big -- and really important -- victory. I don't want to undermine that for him. Not yet.

[ he smiles. would it be weird to go for the hug? he feels like she needs to be hugged right now. but that could be because he's used to kara, who's usually happy to get those whether she needs them or not. ]

I try to be. [ she feels the shift in the conversation -- that wide gap of a moment where a hug between friends would not be uncalled for. indeed, kate might have initiated it herself had they known each other a little longer than this. so instead, the inhabit that odd stretch of friendship where a hugs would be welcome -- but the first hug hasn't yet broken the ice.

she smiles. ] God knows, he could use one of those. Most days.

[ he smiles back. good friends have been in short supply for him most of his life, and he loves that he gets to make up for it now. it just sucks that all of them getting their happy ending here means going their separate ways to different parts of the multiverse and never seeing each other again. ]
