He's really taking to engineering, isn't he? [She finds it impressive coming from the world he does based on what she's heard about it.]

Something tells me I'd be better off not dancing tonight. [A brief huff that almost sounds like laughter.]

Aye--better than I did, anyway. [Which is impressive, considering neither of them have very little experience with anything as advanced as what the fleet has.] I've not heard of him setting anything on fire in his stay here.

[He taps a leaf with his finger.] He just says he'll need the machinery.

[She looks at him curiously.] How many chances do you think you'll have to dance in space? [Why pass this one up so completely?]

Mm, but, you set something on fire? [Oh, Jon, you make it hard for her to believe she couldn't handle the engineering better even with a piloting augment. It was always something she excelled at before.]

More than I'd ever want. [He'll dance when he feels like it, and since he never feels like it anyway--

Oh, yes. That. He coughs and looks away, suddenly very interested in the leaves of a nearby plant, spiraling up a post. Fireflies settle in and around it, their light lending a dim glow that illuminates the plant and, coincidentally, the embarrassed look on Jon's face.]

Only once, and that was when I was still new to the fleet, on the station before this. [A huff of breath.] There was a bar that needed someone to put together a show for them. I ended up doing so, but I hadn't known what I was doing, so. [A shrug.] When they turned it on, it--overloaded, I think, and blew up onstage. I didn't go back to that bar for as long as we were on that station.

Well, I burned down a bar once myself. It was entirely intentional in my case, but maybe starting a bar fire is just a rite of passage we didn't know about. [She gives him an amused smile.] And if there's a second engineer on your ship maybe let her or him take the reigns there.
