I'm sorry you don't get to be together.

I love my own sister, but I haven't seen her in years now. Going out to sea was in my blood, and she stayed home to look after the orchard. We parted on good terms-- this bracelet was her last gift before I left. [She taps the gold bangle around one wrist.]
I miss her a lot. But I know that when we get the opportunity, I'll sail back home and see her again.
I guess... you could try thinking of it the same way. It's just an extended trip.
[She'll be waiting for you at the end.]

I am glad to hear it was a good parting, though. Not everyone is meant for a life of adventure... and someone does have to be the one to watch home and grow the food. Both are good paths, I think.
[He sighed, then nodded.]
And at the very least, I know that no time is passing back home, so she won't have to be without me. [He hesitated, then added slowly-] River is severely mentally ill, and I am her primary caretaker. Being separated from me for so long would be... difficult for her, to say the least.

Time not passing at home is a great saver for a lot of us. In this particular case... all the more so. I'm sorry.
no subject
Thank you. In all honesty, as unhappy as I am about being trapped here, at least Atroma does do us that much of a courtesy. It's not much, but it's definitely a burden off my mind. River would be able to survive without me, but... it's much easier for her when I am around.

Did she like space?
no subject
She as always felt more at home in space, I think. Especially on Serenity- that was the name of the ship we traveled on. I'm not sure what it was about the ship, but it was her home, moreso than anyplace else we ever lived.
no subject
I'm glad she could enjoy that space, then.
[...heh.] Is it common to name ships after that kind of thing? I mean outside the fleet-- Serenity, Tranquility... those are the two I've heard. Kind of a theme there.
no subject
It can be... our ship was named after a particular place called Serenity Valley. Our captain was a former soldier, and the last battle he fought in took place there.

But you know, when we're travelling through the middle of nowhere...

Though I think I still prefer a the wind and the salt that comes with the ocean. I'm still a sea-faring pirate at heart.
no subject
You know, it's funny... I never thought of the sea-faring sort of pirate until I met you, since space travel has made water-based travel all but obsolete in my world. And some planets and moons don't even have oceans. It's an entirely different sense of scale and distance.
no subject
There are some similarities... and a whooole lot of differences. But I'm learning. [Outside of her augment, because screw the augment.]
