"I certainly have opinions on the food Atroma provides, but I'm trying to stay in a festive mood, so I'll spare you them."

She glances around at the trays of food. "Do you think they have anything sweet? It's so rare to come across real confections."

He chuckles softly at that, looking almost startled at the fact that he can laugh.

"I have been here but a scant few days, but already I agree. Even the worst of my brothers could cook better!"

He considers the table thoughtfully and then nods towards one end. "There, you see? I think that looks like deserts. We are bound to find something sweet there."

She likes making people laugh, and Maglor has a nice one. She'll need to try to do that again.

For now, sweets! And she follows his direction to the end of the table. She sees something that looks like a small cake, and goes for that. After a bite, she makes a noise that is poor sinful enjoyment. And then she remembers she has company.

She blushes up at Maglor, dabbing at her mouth with her free hand. "Forgive me. Sweets have always been a luxury."

He smiles at her, and shakes his head indulgently.

"I had young ones with a sweet tooth, once. If you wish it I can see if I can get ingredients to make honeycakes."

Wow, that was a lot of information in only two small sentences. But she's voracious when it comes to learning about others, so that won't stop her at all.

"I'm going to ask you about your skills as a baker in a minute, but first: you have children?"

Pain shoots across his features briefly before he schools it to nothing more than wistful longing, and his voice never wavers.

"My mother taught me to bake. I never had children of my own, but I had the care for two, for a time."

She sees the pain, because she's looking at him when it happens. If she'd glanced off, she'd have missed it, it's gone so quickly. To make up for causing it, she reaches out and touches his arm, squeezes gently.

"You loved them very much. I can tell."

"I did. I do. I will have no children of my own body, but despite everything... I do not regret the time we had together."

"Of course not." She smiles, affectionate and warm. Of course he was a good father. He's the type that would be. The type that would pour himself into children and make them feel cared for.

She still has a hand on his arm, and she gives him a light tug then. "No frowns tonight, Maglor. Only good thoughts."

"You would have liked them, I think." He obliges with a smile.

"Elros was the bold one, always defending his brother and seeking out adventure. And Elrond the wise one, who saw far ahead and planned accordingly."

"I imagine I would." But then, she likes most people. The people she vehemently dislikes are on a very short list.

"They sound like a very complimentary pair."

"They were. But they were opposites, too. In the end, Elros chose the last great adventure, and Elrond chose a different road."
