Thanks. [he smiles a little, and then dryly] The world isn't going to end in some way tomorrow, so we have time, for once. We're taking advantage of it.

That's the good part of the world not ending here tomorrow. The bad part is actually having time to think about everything else.

It's the talking part that's the hardest. I've . . . done the thinking part plenty.

Though Winn was mad at me last week for a few days. It was awful.

He was? Did - something happen?

During my... I don't know. Post-memory-regaining haze, I told Kitty something I thought was funny, but it was about Winn and he thought it was embarrassing, and that I should've talked to him before talking about him.

He wasn't wrong, it just didn't occur to me.

Ah. [he winces a little in understanding] But you two worked it out?

Yeah, we cleared the air.

Which was good because the only thing about having super hearing while your best friend and his girlfriend sleep in the room next to you is being in a fight while it's happening.

That must be . . . yeah. [he's very glad his hearing isn't that good] I'm glad you cleared the air, though. It isn't fun fighting with a friend.

Especially when it's someone who you expect to have your back.

Mmm. [a faint smile] I'm glad it worked out - like I said. I can't picture anyone being angry at you.

Believe me, I have my moments. I'm sure everyone does.

Even knowing that, I can't really imagine it. Not - that I want to. But I know what you mean - I've had my fair share, too.

Thanks. It's different here, too. There isn't a ton of pressure, so it's easy to be cheerful.

Well - remember when you were here last? Extracting sugar from - whatever you want to call that stuff in the kitchen worked. So now I'm working on the next part. [he gestures to a corner, where that particular project has sat since it's inception] Other than that - I've managed not to take on any more projects, even if it's seriously tempting sometimes.

I am very impressed, though mostly pleased because if you focus on this, I'll get more food sooner.

Don't worry, it's my priority. I'm determined to finish it this week.

Ah - the . . . actual making it stage.

I might have to ask Kate to help me with that part. I don't trust myself in the kitchen - not with this, anyway.

She'll definitely help make it work. She's a magician in the kitchen. Which I'm sure you know, since she feeds you.

That's why she's my first choice. [said in the most solemn of tones - which he ruins immediately by grinning] I wouldn't trust just anyone with this.
