[ takes her arm and heads out. she mostly tries to keep her composure on the way over, but once they make it to the bar she flops her head dramatically on her arms on the table ]

[ kate nabs a stool next to kara, and doesn't hesitate to curl her calloused fingers gently around her elbow. ] Tell me what's up.

I was being dumb and flirting with Hank but it turns out his ex is here and he, quote, "doesn't want to hurt me".

Boys suck. [ she scoots her stool closer to kara's and gives her arm a gentle squeeze. ] But that doesn't make you dumb for flirting. That makes him dumb for not being able to get over his ex. Those kinda stories never end well.

Yeah, except this just happened to me at home. Oh, perfect guy who knows your secret identity just happens to start working with you? Awesome. Except I got too nervous and waited too long and his ex who just happens to be I don't know, gorgeous and accomplished came to town to reconcile with him.

They're broken up now, but I wouldn't want to be a rebound, and anyway, I'm here. I was just kind of hoping for a fresh start.

Probably not... I mean, I'm still first in line to try any ice cream he ends up synthesizing. And he's a good guy. I wasn't entirely sure—between the age difference and maybe being too similar, who knows if it would've worked out. But I just feel mortified.

No, no, no. He doesn't get to make you feel that way. [ he should feel mortified. kara said she'd already been flirting -- it's not like hank could have been so blind to it. he's the one that let her flirt right up until this point where it was suddenly too complicated. at least, that's kate's pov. ]

[ oh! look! drinks! kate grabs hers and slurps an initial sip through a straw. ]

We finally have the opportunity to think about wanting something that doesn't interfere with the work we do. So it's only natural.

It's not like I don't understand it wouldn't last forever. But I feel like, okay, I could've died with the rest of my planet, or at home I could be killed or— I mean, you know. The superhero lifestyle isn't exactly prime for relationships.
