[oh noooo but she can barely say anything before that book is yanked out of the bottom of the stack and all of the books on top of it go flapping cover-over-spine onto the floor. it makes a huge noise. they are probably being stared at.]

[he sighs--almost hisses--through his teeth, as all of those books suffer a fate they really didn't deserve.

whatever, forget the store owner who is probably now very irate. forget the girl whose shopping he just interrupted. he looks so annoyed and immediately crouches down to start picking up the books, as if he wasn't the one who caused the trouble in the first place.]

[her gasp would have been so scandalized if she were louder. she crouches down too, picking up books and putting them back under her arms, hissing through her teeth at him.]

What did you do that for?

[he just shrugs and shakes his head. it doesn't matter. he doesn't want to talk to her anyway. he just wants to pick these poor books up and go on his way.

...until he sees another book that appeals to him, as Krista picks it up out of the pile.

again, out darts his hand, aiming to yank it away from her.]

[bats his hand away with her book. hard.

and then she gasps again because ohmygod why did she just do that.]

[he gasps too, because what are they both even doing.

and yet, it still only lasts about half a second... before his own hand snaps out, aiming to smack the book out of her hand. hard.]

[the book gets smacked out of her hand! so she smacks his hand back!]
