[He looks at the drink in his hand and back to Tek.]

I think they may be beginning to have some effect. [A sigh] Mortal drink leaves much to be desired.

[no one invited him, but he claims the seat beside Finrod anyway.]

Are you looking to drown something, then?
faithfulwisdom: (worn)

[personal profile] faithfulwisdom 2015-02-11 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
[Of course he does. Finrod's not even surprised.]

Perhaps. [he huffs into his glass] I am not ordinarily one to seek comfort at the bottom of a bottle. I have always thought it rather cowardly in a way. Far better to confront your troubles head on, is it not?
heresyandlace: (above you)

[personal profile] heresyandlace 2015-02-11 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
You can only confront something head-on if it has a face.

[he gets settled lounging in his seat, nice and comfy.]

Does your problem have a face?

Unless one chooses to include our hosts- as they are most certainly an aspect of my problem- no, it does not.
heresyandlace: (aren't you a treat)

[personal profile] heresyandlace 2015-02-16 06:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Then, I have two follow-up questions for you.

The first being-- what is your problem, if I might ask?

And the second is... [motioning toward the elf's disappointing drink] ...Would you like something stronger?
faithfulwisdom: (What's that?)

[personal profile] faithfulwisdom 2015-02-21 03:04 am (UTC)(link)
I will answer the second- yes, gladly- before I attempt to tackle the first.

As for my problem...

You speak now to a dead man. I trust it is a novelty for you?
heresyandlace: (sits like a whore)

[personal profile] heresyandlace 2015-02-22 04:23 am (UTC)(link)
Do you prefer ales, wines, or something else?

[asked as he flags down the bartender so he can order.

and, upon Finrod explaining his problem, Tek's brow raises... though it's more in consideration than outright shock.]

Well... you may be speaking to the person to whom death is the least surprising. ...But, I can understand why it might put you in such a mood.

Wine would be my preference.

[But now you've got him curious.] And why is death less surprising to you, if I might ask?
heresyandlace: (aren't you a treat)

[personal profile] heresyandlace 2015-03-05 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
Death never surprises me. We are very well acquainted.

[and pauses long enough to murmur an order to the bartender, and then settles properly in his seat again, reserving his full attention for the elf.]

...You are hardly the first person I've met who has crossed back and forth over that grim threshold.
faithfulwisdom: (Thoughtful)

[personal profile] faithfulwisdom 2015-03-09 12:39 am (UTC)(link)
I am not? [Genuine surprise here.] What an interesting life you must lead.
heresyandlace: (merciful king)

That's one term for it, I suppose.

[he pauses while the bartender hands him a glass filled with an uncommon wine--dark, dry, and fragrant. and by the time Tek holds it out to Finrod, taking a moment to swirl its contents and sample its scent, it will pack twice the bite it normally would.

with such a brutal little magical boost to its potency, it won't be a friendly sort of hangover in the morning... but it will certainly get the job done.

if Finrod wants to get drunk, this is the ticket. a drink no longer suited to those with human constitutions.]

Though, truth be told... as familiar as I am with death, with all of the uncommon experiences I've had with it... it will never lose its horror.
