I think they may be beginning to have some effect. [A sigh] Mortal drink leaves much to be desired.

Perhaps. [he huffs into his glass] I am not ordinarily one to seek comfort at the bottom of a bottle. I have always thought it rather cowardly in a way. Far better to confront your troubles head on, is it not?

You can only confront something head-on if it has a face.

[he gets settled lounging in his seat, nice and comfy.]

Unless one chooses to include our hosts- as they are most certainly an aspect of my problem- no, it does not.

As for my problem...

Well... you may be speaking to the person to whom death is the least surprising. ...But, I can understand why it might put you in such a mood.

[But now you've got him curious.] And why is death less surprising to you, if I might ask?

Death never surprises me. We are very well acquainted.

[and pauses long enough to murmur an order to the bartender, and then settles properly in his seat again, reserving his full attention for the elf.]

...You are hardly the first person I've met who has crossed back and forth over that grim threshold.

That's one term for it, I suppose.

[he pauses while the bartender hands him a glass filled with an uncommon wine--dark, dry, and fragrant. and by the time Tek holds it out to Finrod, taking a moment to swirl its contents and sample its scent, it will pack twice the bite it normally would.

with such a brutal little magical boost to its potency, it won't be a friendly sort of hangover in the morning... but it will certainly get the job done.

if Finrod wants to get drunk, this is the ticket. a drink no longer suited to those with human constitutions.]

Though, truth be told... as familiar as I am with death, with all of the uncommon experiences I've had with it... it will never lose its horror.
