[ The feed shakes for a few minutes before it centers on a young thirteen year old boy. He has the trademark padawan braid and robes as he sits on his knees in front of the camera. His expression is quiet and muted, though it seems like he hasn't had much sleep. His eyes are red-rimmed and tired. ]

Hello. If you could tell me if this ship is heading to Coruscant, I would be grateful. If not, I'd be happy to earn my way there through any duties you deem necessary.

[ He hesitates, pausing for far too long, biting on his lip. ] And if you -- you have seen Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn.

Thank you.

[ Action ]

[ Obi-Wan weaves himself through the ship, his shoulders hunched and his saber in a tight white-knuckled grip. Surely Qui-Gon wouldn't have left him here . . . not after coming back. Not after their discussion.

Then again, what rights did Obi-Wan even possess?

He tugs the hood over his face and keeps a wary eye on everyone who came close. This was a strange vessel and their responses got even more confusing. Best to keep to himself until he got to Coruscant. ]

[ Maglor yields to the instinct to reach up and ruffle Obi-Wan's hair a little. ]

Maybe so. But he sounds a very fair man, and we all of us make mistakes. Why should he not give you another chance? That is what being a Master is for, after all. To help your students to pick themselves up, and try again. To learn from their mistakes.

[ He huffs, resisting the urge to pat down his hair. ]

Master Qui-Gon lost an apprentice to the Dark. He never got over it.

It hurts, when one you trust, turns against you - I can understand why he would be upset. But you are not doing so, are you? To control ones emotions, one needs to understand them - and that means being able to look past your own biases. You did your best. You meant no harm. I think he will see that.

[ He nods finally. Master Qui-Gon was wise . . . and he did choose Obi-Wan in the end. Maybe . . . maybe he'll forgive Obi-Wan and choose him again. ]

[ Maglor's smile is wryly understanding, but he gets up to pick up his harp again ]

There, but enough of such gloomy talk, I think. Would you like to hear more music?

Quite a lot, actually, but alas! Nothing from Corsucant, and probably nothing from your home world, either.

Coruscant isn't my home world . . . at least I don't think it is. I was only taken there when I was found to be force-sensitive.

[ He reaaaaaaally doesn't approve of removing children from their families, but... well. Not his world, after all ]

Where are you from? [ Quietly, the harp ripples softly, a sweet background of music to accompany their talk. ]

I don't know. They don't really tell you.

[ He's never thought about it before. ] The Temple is the only home I know.

[ A small frown ]

Not at all? That seems... a little cruel. But I suppose it is kinder for you, if you do not have a place to be homesick for.

It's our way. It's easier to start training when we're young.

This is true, I suppose, but ... it is a strange thing to me - amongst my folk, although a child might be fostered for a time, if at all possible, the parents will have their care for most of their formative years.

I don't remember my parents. No one really does except for a few.

That is a sad thing, although less so for you, I suppose, as you do not recall them.

I never thought it was sad. Why would it be sad?

For you, I suppose it is not - you do not remember them, after all. But your parents must miss you. And for my folk, it is a grievous thing indeed, for a child to be without their parents.

I guess. But the Jedi don't force people to do that. It's their choice.

[ This much he knows. He's been on recruitment. ] I think it's also . . . the best choice for us. The Force is powerful. Learning how to use it to help others should come first.

That is well - I would not think it wise to force, as a general rule!

[ He hums softly ] Perhaps. It simply... sits very oddly. As I said, it is a thing almost unheard of, amongst my folk, to part a child from a parent.

What is it like then?

[ Maglor hums thoughtfully, the harp echoing him, pulling up images of the families he has known and casting them wide for Obi-Wan to see ]

Amongst our folk, bearing a child is a wearying thing, for something of both the parents' spirits go into the making. As such, many of them will know their children, having a sense of their gifts and personalities, long before they are actually born. As the child grows, their dependence on the bond with their parents lessens, but especially in the early years, they may still draw, sometimes quite heavily, on that bond. If one or more parent is missing due to ill fortune... the child struggles. They can form bonds with others, but... it is difficult. A child young enough will often follow their parent into the Halls, unable to survive without them.

As such, children are very precious to us, and many families will opt to not have children, in times of war. Any child without a parent will find willing substitutes, but to give a child up is... a thing almost unthinkable.

[ Unless there is a madman with a sword stalking towards you demanding you hand him the Silmaril or die ]

We have those. Force-bonds. We can feel them across the stars.

That is good. [ Maglor nods ] I am glad that you have such ties - although I confess I did not know Men capable of them!

Not all men. Just the Jedi, I think.

Ah - because of the Force? I wonder how different we are, with such skills.
