[ He remembers her from the bridge. She, or another version of her, showed him Odessa during Callibrations. Their first altercation.

Winter at least knows of her capabilities. ]

[Natasha raises an eyebrow a little at that, but not with much seriousness. She's fine with keeping the conversation to this level.

If the Winter Soldier can manage something even approaching small talk, it says a lot.]

So did you play with Steve?

Not so much.

[ Steve had just come back toward the end of their visit to the sickly moon, so he'd kept his distance. ]

Hm. [She shrugs that off, shifting her attention to the forest in front of them.] Too bad.

[ He's perfectly fine to let the silence linger as it is. Filling in the empty spaces with words isn't something he's inclined to care about. ]

[Natasha is willing not to force more conversation. She has a fair amount to think about as it is, rolling the situation over in her mind as she goes through the motions of scouting out the area.]

[ The forest is quiet enough that Winter can sort through the jumbled thoughts. He has to admit, Natasha's presence is nice after such a long absence. Figuring out if he'll stand in quite the same spot again is another situation entirely.

If he could do it before, it shouldn't be so hard doing it again. ]

[For her part, Natasha wasn't sure what to expect from Barnes. The last times she's seen him, he wasn't so much himself. He was a weapon. That wasn't necessarily something she was any position to cast moral judgment on, but having experience with weapons means knowing to be cautious with them.

Now, he was a person. Maybe not the most balanced or most social person, but still someone with their own thoughts and personality to inform their actions...

At least unless something triggered him.

For the time being, she was willing to let it sit and see for herself where things went.]

[ He's still trying to be a person that his double would be proud of, but it's difficult. The moral compass isn't there or constantly pointing in the right direction. He's trying to be a person, at least.

Oh, Natasha. If only she'd gotten to the Fleet the month before. She would have witnessed the monster. ]
