[He looks upwards, into the tree tops, listening to the sounds of birds fluttering past.] People get caught up in this sort of thing, they get used to it. I have seen it happen before.

I assume you mean in getting comfortable in their prison cells.

What I've wondered lately is how they choose what worlds we visit.

If this really is for a show, though, wouldn't they be willing to change course based on some kind of feedback? This ratings business, for instance.

I've heard that no world visited thus far has heard of the supposed show. That last moon was at a technological level that it should be capable of receiving the kinds of transmissions needed for broadcast. This one -- it's too earthy for that. You're right that it's awfully convenient, that no one has heard of the show that we've seen.

Also, there is not much we can do with such information if we find out any of this to be true, if there is some special reasoning behind the planet choices. From what I heard it's impossible to stay on a planet after the Fleet has left, [Her face stopping just short of a snarl, even as her tone became tense.] We are short of choices.

I've heard that as well. It remains to be seen what we can use the information for, if we find it.

You're hoping you can find enough information to make it so you can somehow return to your world?

I've been working with Charles for the moment. My immediate plans involve catching up on what's happened in the world. I'm behind on a lot of things.

[There is a long pause from her side before Mystique offers a slither of civility to him.] I ask to see how much it matches up to my own world. These multiple universes are a curious thing, to see the differences between them. [There, she's playing nice.] And those parts that are not so different. [Kind of.]

[The newspapers and television shows continue to howl his name and breathlessly speculate on where he's vanished to. The fact that all reported sightings had been false only proves how hysterical everyone had become. Still, the furor he'd stoked was dangerous, and he had fled to the less accessible corners of Europe. From there... he was going to wait. He remembers that much.]
