Yeah well... I think anyone would pick this over where I came from.

[grandstanding]

Fair enough. [He's heard of terrible worlds and places before. He's lived in a few himself.] What's your world called?

[mistyday]

Earth? I don't think it's got a fancy name.

[grandstanding]

It doesn't, but there are many of them out there. I'm from Earth as well, in 1973. [That's the qualification he always adds. It's the second distinguishing characteristic, behind mutants. It also doesn't surprise him to hear that Earth is a place she doesn't want to be. So much of it is reprehensible.]

[To be fair, it's not Earth she's scared of, it's Hell.

But she lights up when he mentions the date.]

Really? Oh you're so lucky! I would do anything to get to go back then!

[grandstanding]

[This is the first time anyone's reacted to the date with something other than "Oh, that's so long ago." He raises his eyebrows, a touch surprised.]

Were the seventies a fond time for you?

[mistyday]

Well, I mean, I wasn't exactly alive yet. [She grins.] 'Bout a decade too early for me, but I love seventies music, so I'd love to go to some of those concerts.

[grandstanding]

I haven't had much opportunity to hear current music. What I have heard seems quite different to what was popular in the sixties. [The last time he was hip and up to date.]

If you don't see anyone else, you gotta see Fleetwood Mac. You still got a couple years before they get real big, but that just means you get to see them for cheaper now, right?

[grandstanding]

"Fleetwood Mac" ... [It strikes him as an odd name, but maybe it has a meaning somewhere.] I can only assume you're right. I've never been to a concert. Are they American?

[mistyday]

Some of them are American, some of them are British. They got started in London in 1967 as part of the British Blues movement - but they won't get real big until 1977, so you're right in time for that!

[grandstanding]

Maybe Hank has heard of them. [Hank is the closest thing to a music fan he knows.] It seems I'll have a few years to be ahead of the curve.

[mistyday]

Yeah! And one of the singers, Stevie Nicks, she's like me. So maybe she'll be like you in your world.

[grandstanding]

Like me? [His confusion is evident. That's an odd jump to make - why would a singer change between worlds? Beyond the difference in realities, he can't see why a musician would be like him in any way. Unless--]

You said you had power, before. Magic. Is that what you mean?

[mistyday]

Yeah! She's the White Witch - got magic right in her music.

[grandstanding]

[It's lucky he's met a variety of witches before, otherwise he'd find that more unbelievable. Were he still unfamiliar with magic, he'd be far more critical of the idea.]

Magic music - it's not entirely implausible, I suppose. If she were a mutant, it could be an ability. I knew a boy once who could shatter glass with his voice.

This would make you the third witch I've met.

[Her curiosity is clearly piqued as her eyes light up and she leans closer.

What were they like?

[grandstanding]

Mm, well. [He crosses his arms, trying to find a way to describe a type of power that he doesn't personally relate to.] They're both young women. One of them I met here; her name is Hermione. She's very intelligent. I haven't seen much of her magic in general, but I know she can change objects into other materials.

I didn't know there was another witch! What ship is she on, do you know?

[grandstanding]

The Vanquish, I believe. Though I don't know how often she would be on it at the moment.

[Just about everyone has abandoned them in favour of the planet.]

Can't say I blame her - don't think I've been on my ship at all since we landed.
