It's not just about you. I should've known better. The planet whatever really doesn't matter. It's selfish and dumb to touch people without asking first because you don't know what shit they have going.

[She shrugs.]

[It's an awareness he appreciates, much as he won't confirm it.]

I accept that you feel badly about it, but I wasn't going to ignore the fact that you weren't looking at me. [Maybe if she had been one of his followers in days gone by, and he'd given her a dressing down that way. That particular leadership slant will never entirely leave him.]
pain_train: (little smile 2)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-07-20 12:07 am (UTC)(link)
Then you get to deal with me being upset. [Choice is yours, Erik. Her lips quirk.] Or I guess you could shoot at me and then I'd be fine because I'd know what to do.

[How the fuck does this social interaction stuff work, and... why is she asking Erik? Hoo boy.]
grandstanding: (One-track mind.)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-07-22 09:37 am (UTC)(link)
I don't use guns.

[Too much history there, between too many people now.]
pain_train: (confidence)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-07-23 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
Since when do you have to use guns to shoot at people? [Or are Erik's powers way less awesome than she was led to believe? But anyway, she knows there are way more projectile weapons out there than regular guns.

She shrugs.]

Or whatever. I can't shoot for shit. But it's more an expression that encompasses all the myriad ways people could try to murder my ass. [Because ultimately, those are the kind of conditions she knows how to deal with best.]
grandstanding: (I read your thesis and it sucked)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-07-23 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
It's what's typically meant in my world. [Other than missiles. Mutant firepower is too poorly understood by the majority to factor into the expression.]

None of which I'm going to use in a conversation, I would think. [Unless it went extremely south. Unlikely, but always a possibility with the various people he could encounter here.]
pain_train: (let me say it slower)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-07-23 10:08 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, okay. Huh. Now I know!

Yeah, I didn't like actually mean you would. Just I'm shitty at talking like a normal person but I'm a lot better at dodging bullets so that's easier.

...but I guess that was a dumb joke and it didn't work. [Hm. Mental note. But she feels a lot less awkward than she did, so that's probably an improvement?]
grandstanding: (24)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-07-23 10:14 am (UTC)(link)
[It says a lot about him that his first reaction was to take it seriously.]

I don't have the best sense of humour.
pain_train: (unconvinced)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-07-23 10:18 am (UTC)(link)
You don't? I think you're pretty funny. [This is a serious statement on her part. Despair, everyone.]

My favorite joke in M.I. used to be headbutting people. It doesn't work very well in regular conversations. So. [She's pretty sure the problem here is her and not you, Erik. Because Erik is awesome as far as she's concerned.]
grandstanding: (Sounds like a volvo with a gunrack)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-07-24 08:22 am (UTC)(link)
Well, thank you. [His sense of humour doesn't tend to connect with most people he knows.]

Humour is... subjective.
pain_train: (confidence)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-07-24 08:39 am (UTC)(link)
I think... I didn't really get your humor when I first met you, but I have a hard time understanding people sometimes anyway and a lot of jokes seem to involve not really saying what you mean. [Shrug.] Then I realized your sense of humor is kind of like my former partner's. It took me a long time to figure him out, but then he was funny as all hell.

Like you are when you're in a good mood.
grandstanding: (I read your thesis and it sucked)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-07-25 08:56 am (UTC)(link)
Some people never do. [Hank being the prime offender. At least it's mutual.]

You've been lucky to catch it.
pain_train: (upturn)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-07-25 05:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I've been lucky you've been willing to show me. [People like Erik aren't easy. But worth knowing if they'll let you.]

What were you shopping for before I started bugging you?
grandstanding: (Yes everyone here seems competent)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-07-28 09:33 am (UTC)(link)
Soup ingredients. [He gestures towards the table, piled high with vegetables of many colourful varieties.]

I'm hoping to make supplies that will last a while if they're taken back to the ship.
pain_train: (Default)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-08-01 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
[She moves a little closer to look at the table.] I like the colors. [...she has no idea what that stuff is, other than "generic plant thing that people somehow transform into food."]

How are you going to do that? It's so cool that you can cook.
grandstanding: (Intellectualisms.)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-08-02 10:40 am (UTC)(link)
[They have local names, probably.]

Soup tends to be easy. Cook the vegetables for a few minutes, then add them to a pot of water and stock. That's about it.
pain_train: (lips quirked 2)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-08-06 12:53 am (UTC)(link)
You make it sound easy. [She gently pokes one of the vegetables.] So after you make it into soup are you gonna put it in cans or something?

I kind of know how to make noodles? I mean. Like not the noodles themselves. They have to come out of a package. But I can like. Make a thing with noodles?
grandstanding: (Uh ... huuuuh.)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-08-06 03:07 am (UTC)(link)
Jars, most likely. This planet doesn't have a lot of metal goods.

That's a start. I used to have recipe books in Kyriakos, that's how I learned.
pain_train: (grin 5)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-08-06 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, jars. Yeah. Those are a thing. Probably make more sense than quikpaks. [She just thinks of everything in terms of rations by default.] Since I guess they don't have those here either.

Have you found any books like that here? I bet they have good stuff.
grandstanding: (How terribly gauche)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-08-06 05:03 am (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I haven't looked. I know the library on the Iskaulit does, though.
pain_train: (grin 3)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-08-06 05:24 am (UTC)(link)
We should find an awesome one from here to add to the library! Like... what if you could get a book about food from every planet we went to, how cool would that be?

[And maybe if she's awesome enough, Erik will make stuff for her some time. A girl can dream.]
grandstanding: (25)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-08-07 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
It shouldn't be too hard to manage. Charles might know better where the booksellers are around here.
pain_train: (Default)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-08-07 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
[She managed to have a good idea that doesn't involve shooting people. Go her!]

Probably. I don't know where any stuff like that is, but we could ask him. You've definitely got to pick the book out though, since you know how to cook best.
grandstanding: (I can't stand this indecision)

[personal profile] grandstanding 2016-08-07 02:17 am (UTC)(link)
I can agree to that.
