[Clay chows down as well, though he's much slower at it than Allen is. Speaking of that, he watches Allen eat out of the corner of his eye, and he can't help the smile coming up because of it. Yes, it's still bewildering to watch someone eat that much at that speed, but that's just who Allen is.]

Glad you think so! These were actually some of the more difficult ones to make. Getting all the food in there like that and all.

[He swallows a Gimbap]

You mean, like getting them into the nice roll shapes?

Yup. And you know, making sure the little bits of food don't fall out of alignment, or out entirely, stuff like that. Not that it's hard, just more difficult than the other two.

[He swallows the first gimbap, then moves on to the other]

Gimbap is pretty much a snack food, so mom made these for me a lot when I was a kid.

[Yeah...he's pretty sure he's crew up trying to line it all up. No making Gimbap or sushi for him. But he gives a soft amused sound]

Lucky. My father was a terrible cook, so there'd never be anything like this.

[There's a little pause and a smile playing on Clay's face a bit... and he thinks he might as well, now that they're on the topic, and leans forward a bit as he speaks up again.]

So what'd you eat back then?

[He gives a half-shrug]

Bread, gruel, stew- sometimes meat and cheese, if we got lucky.

Mmm... no wonder you hated that stuff.

[Referring to that one time he made fantastic oatmeal for breakfast, only for Allen to not at all be enthused by it, not like the way he'd be with his other food. Clay quickly fixed his mistake and made pancakes instead, but better to remember that there is actually some food out there that Allen dislikes, and now for a good reason.]

My mom and my aunt got a lot of money for most of my life, so I never really had to eat just those things.

Was it that obvious?

[He had tried to be polite about it, honest! Just...yeah, hard to get enthused over something that reminds him of gruel okay]

Yeah? What did they do for a living?

[He grins, leaning over to nudge Allen's shoulder - and letting that quick touch show that there's no hard feelings about it, more just amusement and understanding.]

Any food you don't like is pretty noteworthy, hon.

[He leans back then, leaning his elbow on the table so that he can rest his cheek against his hand]

Mom was an astronomer at Orange County, and my aunt's a seismologist in LA. She studies earthquakes for a living, and since California has a lot of earthquakes, she got a lot of work.

[He appreciates the show of no hard feelings. Mostly he just feels a little sheepish that apparently he's that obvious to read about food gosh]

Oh wow, I didn't know people studied earthquakes. [That's cool!!] Sounds like your family is full of scientists.

Yup!

[The ones that matter, at least]

Seismologists don't just study earthquakes, but also environmental effects on the Earth and its crust. You know, like volcanoes, tsunamis, explosions, stuff like that. They've even been able to predict when tsunamis will happen! She's really busy a lot of the time, and sometimes she even had to travel to places where a lot of seismic events were happening.

[Which meant he'd be left alone, but he was a teenager by that point and was taught to be self-sufficient, so he could take care of himself just fine.]

Wow...I can imagine it'd keep you busy. Sounds like really important work!

[He finishes off the last gimbap, making a happy sound from it. Damn that was good]

Ah, that was good!

It definitely is.

[Very proud of his aunt, this guy is. But now that Allen's done with that, Clay gives a big grin, proud for another reason entirely, and rests both elbows on the table now]

[He scoffs a little]

Me? Not ready for more food? I thought you knew me!

[There's a smile on his face however, since he's definitely teasing]

[He pulls the dak galbi forward until it's in front of Allen, and though it's had time to cool down, it still steams just a bit.]

Careful. This stuff's pretty intense. [He's pretty sure Allen can handle it, but still!]

[Oh yeah, he's going right for it. Taking a chopstick full into his mouth and chewing]
