But that's so haaaaard...

[ well he's gonna start with squeezing his shoulder now - somehow he's always touching sascha.

he's grateful for his kind offer, and heartbroken for the implications of what sascha is saying - and all of that comes through the connection afforded to them by the planet. he's convinced himself before that he wants nothing because he couldn't have anything and it just hurt less not to want, but in the long run it just turned him bitter and he doesn't want this for sascha - sascha can have what he wants, maybe not back home but here. this is where they get to change their lives. ]

I know, [ softly ] but it's important. It's important to want things and to know you deserve them and should have them. If you want a hat - wish for the hat.

[ he may get a glimpse there, of the surprise winn has been working on for him - a pretty big pirate captain hat because screw logic, he just thought the accessory would make sascha smile. the planet is a constant spoiler alert. but sascha can have two hats, it's silly to feel sad that the tree will give him the same present - it just means that winn got it right and is working on something he would actually want and like! ]

[ That's...a lot of things to interpret. I mean Sascha gets the glimpses, feels the emotions as they pass through the touch. The gratitude, the hurt--Sascha doesn't yet understand heartbreak. It's more than what Winn's let him feel before and certainly not at all like what he gets from the locals. He feels...like he should share too, but no idea what.

Ironically that's exactly what she shares, along with a want and yearning to make Winn happy and do what he says, to figure out what it is he wants beyond wanting to do what Winn wants. Beyond what anyone wants, really, besides himself. Sascha's life prior to the fleet hasn't made allowances for his own desires in the material sense. Having someone beside him so the doesn't wake up alone every night is more than he could've ever hoped for. Having someone like Kitty who accepts him for what he is is more than he could've hoped for.

And an amazing friend like Winn who always tries so hard to help him understand is more than he could've hoped for. Sascha has so much more now. ]

[ he doesn't mean to dump so much on him and it's only when he senses sascha's reaction that he realizes what he's done. shit. when he gets comfortable he just..loses track of himself, of where he is. this superpower thing is hard to get used to. at least he didn't share anything too bad -- he retract his hand before he could end up doing that. sascha has enough to deal with, he doesn't need winn's mountain of problems to worry about too. ]

You deserve to be happy, Sascha.

I...I am happy, I promise! I'm really happy--never happier! [ As happy as he needs to be to make Winn happy, but there is truth to his words beyond that. ]

[winn]

[ to winn it feels like sascha trying to please him again, and it's heartbreaking. but he smiles all the same, because he wants to please sascha too. ]

Ask for whatever will make you happy, Sascha. If it's meat for Bigby do that. If it's a hat, do that. If it's something else entirely - ask for that.

You won't...be mad if it's not something for me?

Of course I won't be -- Sascha it's your wish. It should be whatever you want, and who cares what anyone else says.

Then... I really wanna get Bigby a steak, hehe. Sorry!

You have nothing to be sorry about. Sorry I made you feel like there was.

Next I'll think really hard about something for me, promise. [ It's just really hard right now when all that comes to mind is...well, Bigby. His big, lovable, grumpy wolf. If there's anyone he wants to give something to, it's him.

Even now his face gets a faraway, goofy look of fondness. ]

Well if you ever figure out something you want, I'll try to help you get it.

[ winn knows this feeling. it's the feeling that has him up at all hours working on little projects to make his friends smile, after all. ]

I'm not really good at this sorta thing, hehe.

I wasn't either. [ he still isn't. ] It gets easier with time and practice.

Really?? But you're so good at...everything! [ He can't fathom Winn struggling with anything let alone a wish. ]

[ that makes him laugh, oh he loves sascha's rose tinted glasses, but they also hurt. he is so far from being good at everything. ]

I'm not bad at faking it, apparently.

[pneumo]

....Faking what? [ He's got bouquets on his glasses, mister. ]

Being good at everything. I'm really not, Sascha. No one's good at everything.

You sure look like it... And Kitty likes you! So!

[winn]

Yeah but...Kitty doesn't like me because I'm good at stuff. She likes me for me -- that includes stuff I'm...not so great at. When you like someone - you take the good with the bad.

[pneumo]

...But you're not bad at all Winn! You're super-nice!

[ he smiles, but it's a very sad sort of smile. this is exactly what he wants people to think of him, it's how he wants to be perceived, but it's not who he is and he doesn't want to explain to sascha why he's wrong and that's selfish but shouldn't he get to be a little selfish? he's not bad that part isn't a lie. and he is nice. he's just not this perfect person sascha seems to think he is and one day he'll see it because eventually they all do - eventually he always ends up showing people his ugly side. would he think back to today when that happens, or would he not even remember it? would sascha just...make up excuses for him even then, because he can't be bad because kitty likes him?

this is why he told kitty he's no good with kids. way too much responsibility. ]

[ You hush your inner thoughts right this instant mister, because no matter what Winn thinks of himself, it won't stop Sascha from very gingerly reaching out to brush his knuckles against his wrist, hoping that at least through that he can convey he really does like him, and think the world of him. He always has fun with Winn. He's always happy, even when Winn is squirming to push him off or sleepily trying to explain why he's grumpy about being woken up at 3am by a surprise visit from Sascha.

He does silly stuff with him like pirates and super heroes, and he believes in Sascha. It means a great deal to him. ]
