Ah, hello?

[ Oh, look, a new face! A rather young new face, wearing what most (if not all) the Thedosians of the Fleet will likely be able to recognize as a Grey Warden's uniform/armor/thingummy. Her accent is distinctly Ferelden, and she sounds a bit uncertain, but smiles at the camera anyway. ]

This is... rather strange, I must admit. I'm certain this isn't the Fade, which must mean it's real, even though I don't really see how it could be.

I don't suppose anyone could tell me what's going on?

Ah, I never got that far South. Many of my friends come from Ferelden, though.

Really? [ perks up ] I wouldn't have thought many Fereldens would still be in Kirkwall. I know a lot of people had to evacuate during the Blight, but...

[ Ah, sweet naive girl, not realizing how hard it would be to get back, let alone start over - AGAIN. ]

Well, many chose to stay. They created new lives for them, and from what I understand Ferelden suffered terribly during the Blight.

True enough, I suppose. I can't imagine wanting to stay, but... well. I wasn't evacuated.

We did. We're rebuilding, though, rather well I think, considering how little time we've had - at least from what I've seen.

[...Oh.]

It has been nearly ten years, since the Blight, for me.

Sometimes, people are brought here from the same world, but from different points of time. You were right in the thick of it, then?

[ she looks a bit gobsmacked by this ]

I... yes, we only just finished cleaning up the last remaining large pockets of darkspawn a matter of weeks ago.

Then you might consider your time here a welcome respite, perhaps.

I'll admit, it will be nice to go more than a handful of days at most without someone or something trying to kill me.

[Fenris gives a small huff of amusement. ]

I know that feeling only too well. We may not have many darkspawn left, but there are still plenty of people who wish to kill us. Assassins, thugs, and the like.

Sounds like you're probably about as popular as I am. Let me guess, you try to help someone out, end up fighting off frankly ridiculous numbers of hooligans or monsters in the process?

That is exactly as it goes. It's as if they can smell us, or something.

[ She laughs brightly ]

Yes! That's exactly what it's like! I can be minding my own business and not see a bandit for weeks, then I offer to help someone collect some herbs for healing potions and suddenly they're everywhere!

We can hardly move for bandits and thugs, but we do live in Kirkwall, so I suppose it is to be expected.

I admit, even in the Circle... we heard things about Kirkwall.

[ it's mostly teasingly said, but it's true. Kirkwall is a bit... infamous. ]

[Luckily, Fenris isn't defensive about it. Kirkwall is a hole, it's not his home. His home is found in the people he cares about. Where they are, his home is.]

It must have been a slow day for the Templars to speak of that. [He assumes it's the Templars who speak of such things, it's not like the mages get that much outside time. Just as he likes it, really.]

It was often a slow day. The Ferelden Circle was usually rather quiet.

[ she smiles a little, and adds (half to herself) ]

Unless Anders was trying to run away again. Then it would get pretty busy for a few weeks.

[Oh no. That was the worst name she could have ever uttered.]

You knew Anders? While he was in the circle?

[He says the name as if it tastes like insect innards.]

[ Well, that startles her a bit. Both that he recognizes the name and says it with such... venom. ]

I... yes, he was brought to the Circle only a few weeks before I was. I was very young, and scared, and he looked after me. We've been friends for most of my life.

Is-- did he end up in Kirkwall somehow? Last I knew he was still with the Wardens at Vigil's Keep.

[Knowing she was friends with him doesn't endear her to him at all. Welp. ]

Yes, spewing his ridiculous trite, as if he wasn't an abomination finding blame with everyone but himself. He's a danger to everyone around him.

[ AH. It's what Varric was saying, about people being from later in time than she was.

She purses her lips tightly. ]

Justice. It started going bad, didn't it? Maker's breath-- I told him, I told him that was a bad idea!

I am glad someone attempted to explain that to him.

Justice may as well be Vengeance, now. Anders is nothing but a frothing lunatic, determined to prove to everyone that mages need to be free, while proving exactly why they need to be kept in the Circles.

[ Stephanie deflates a bit. He was always anti-Circle, but he'd been... he'd just wanted to get out, mostly, before.

It's hard, hearing someone who might as well have been her big brother has... changed. Sure, Fenris might be exaggerating, or biased, but she thinks that he's not blowing things that much out of proportion.

If nothing else, she was a bit afraid of something like this happening, anyway. ]

I'm... sorry, that he's proving a danger to others. And that you have to deal with that. I should've--

[ She should've told him no, in absolute terms, when he was talking about letting Justice into his body. Except that she knows that would've done nothing but make him more determined.

...Also she is not going to cry, she is the Hero of Ferelden and the former Warden-Commander of Vigil's Keep, she will NOT cry over this news from someone she's only just met. ]

Stupid, stupid man. He's going to get himself killed one day, and I won't be able to save him this time.

[Fenris can't feel any sympathy, there is none to give. None for mages, certainly none for Anders.]

He gets closer to it every day, and when it comes, it will be his own doing. He made his own choices, no one else can be blamed for that.

No, they can't.

[ That doesn't mean she won't feel responsible for it, though.

She takes a deep breath, then smiles tightly ]

I'm sorry to have reminded you of bad things. I hope the fact that I knew him when he was... younger doesn't mean we can't be civil, at least.

Do not trouble yourself. At least you attempted to prevent his downward spiral, you are not responsible for it. The blame lies solely with himself.
