Some people remembered stuff. I don't know how it works, I never went home and came back to the place.

[Adachi repeats as he ponders over the words.]

So there were visitors to Paradisa who went home, came back, and remembered what happened during their first visit... but there were others who came back and didn't remember their first visit at all. Am I getting this right?

That's exactly right. I don't know how it worked, or even how the castle decided who would remember and who wouldn't. It seemed pretty random, to be honest.

[It was a little comforting to know that he apparently wasn't the only one who had memory problems when it came to this Paradisa place. Still... he wanted to know more about what he may have shared there that could affect him here.]

Do you think there's a connection between here and Paradisa? I mean, the fact that both places are apparent gathering points for random individuals... I don't know. I guess it could just be coincidence, but the idea that there are multiple places like that... Hmmm...

Maybe? There are other people from similar places. This place could just be very good at hooking anyone in.

Other people from similar places, huh... How many do you think are out there? I mean... what are the odds that you'd wind up in back to back- [Adachi paused briefly trying to think of an adequate word to describe this fleet and Paradisa.] prisons...

[It just kind of spilled out of his mouth. He regretted it the moment he said it, but he couldn't really think of another word. It was too early to tell if there was a specific relationship between here and the other "prisons," but the possible similarities bothered him.]

I wouldn't even want to start to guess. It's all out of my level of expertise.

[He doesn't seem to notice the use of the word. Plenty of people in Paradisa called the castle a prison. For some, it really was. ]

It's kind of scary isn't it? I mean, it's hard to feel comfortable when you know that you could just be sucked away and then trapped in some far off place.

After years, you get used to it. It's better not to be expecting it all the time, or you'll never relax.

[Well, he was certainly right about that.]

So... how long have you been here? As part of the fleet, I mean.

Five months, now. Not much in the grand scheme of things, but there you go.

Well, it's longer than I've been here. What's it been like so far?

Compared to the castle, it's been a cakewalk. Nothing has tried to kill us or torture us anything.

[When you say stuff like that how can you NOT expect Adachi to be interested. Still, he decides not to pursue it for now. Instead, he'll just look surprised and a little worried by this news.]

I guess that's good then. Ah heh. You'd figure outer space would be more dangerous than a castle, but, in this case, I suppose not.

[That's Crowley. Always keep 'em wondering. ]

You would, but most castles aren't sentient, magical and evil, either so...

[There's a break in the conversation as Adachi decides whether or not to ask something that's been nagging at him for a while now. He figures he might as well.]

So if we're on a TV show right now... where are all the cameras? Also, wouldn't people recognize us from the show? I mean, we do kind of stick out.

Buggered if I know, maybe that's just what they tell us, to keep us complacent.

[Buggered? That's the first time Adachi has ever heard anyone use that word. Context clues suggest... it's an euphemism.]

[Adachi lets out a loud, exasperated sigh] This whole reality show thing is sounding more and more ridiculous. What's even the point? I mean, who could find any of this entertaining?

Well, one thing I've learned about living things in general is that they can be amused by the most stupid fucking things ever. If there really is an audience, I wouldn't be surprised if they found us entertaining to watch.

[Adachi had to laugh at that. Crowley apparently has the same contempt for most of the dumbasses that populate the world that Adachi does.]

Guess I was hoping for a little more fame and popularity to be coming our way. Oh well, I guess this is better. [Adachi shrugged.] Wouldn't want to be mobbed by a bunch of random people whenever we visited another planet.

[Certainly. Or at least a mixture of confusion and disdain. ]

Well, if you interest them enough, you get given money. That's what fame is at the end of the day, right?

I get paid? You mean the whole ratings thing?

Yep. You can go shopping on Waystations, then. Or pay to get your ship upgraded, I guess.

[Feh, like Adachi would bother helping his pint-sized bitch of a captain upgrade their space bucket. No, if he was going to use his ratings, then it was going to be on himself.]

Can you only use them at waystations? That is, are there any other uses for them?

The planets take it, too. It's like...universal. You have a little credit card and everything.
