[ Maybe October doesn't really happen in space, but since time is arbitrarily defined anyway, maybe it does. Throughout the month, members aboard the Tourist might notice subtle(ish) decorations going up. A paper garland of candied apples here, some adorable paper Jack-O-Lanterns there... The ship was destined to be a Pinterest board the moment Kara was brought on it. Sorry not sorry. ]

[ For her part, Kara can be found working on and displaying various crafts and decorations. She's decided to take a few days off of the sun machine, so her cheeriness may be slightly more strained than usual, but she's really working at being chipper and useful! ]

[ she gets a call from a very stressed sounding bff. ]

Kara, I need you in the cargo hold - like now.

[ this alarms her! she replies before rushing down there ]

Winn? What's wrong?

[ the sight of him probably won't do much to make her feel better - his face is strained and pale - but he doesn't seem to be in any sort of danger. actually, the cargo hold looks much as it always does - with one exception. in front of winn, is a big crate holding 10 identical big plush bears in straightjackets. he's not amused. ]

Can you X-ray this, please.

Oh, um.

Yeah, I think so...

[ she'll give it a go, and she can, though maybe with less detail than usual ]

[ he just wants to make sure there isn't a creamy exploding center to any of them, so long as she doesn't miss a bomb that's detail enough for him. ]

All clear from an x-ray point of view.

From a taste point of view? Not so much.

[winn]

Yeah.

[ letting out a breath he didn't realize he was holding, he picks one of them up, turning it over in his hands. ]

It's about as subtle as a punch in the face.

We could push them out an airlock?

Tempting.

[ he smiles at her, but he doesn't want to give the atroma the satisfaction of seeing they got to him. again. pulling at the straightjacket, he tries to take a peek to see if the bear's complete under it. ]

I got a better idea. To the crafting supplies! [ in a dramatic announcer voice, pointing to the ceiling. and then pausing. ] This is where a jump-cut would have come in handy, I think we can cut them out of these things, patch 'em up and give them away to the kids in the fleet, or keep them in a handy public space in case someone reverts to childhood again.

Turns out I'm a pretty sweet guy. [ nodding ] I'm counting on it.

[Fenris is doing his usual skulking around the ship like a bad smell. He pauses to poke a finger at the candied apple garland, squinting a little. ]

Is this in preparation for the Earth celebration? Halo-something?

"Halloween", which is a great holiday with candy.

[wolfuncaged]

Ah, yes, that one.

If I recall correctly, do the children dress up for it?

Mostly American children, but yeah. That's the trick, and the candy is the treat.

Oh, that's a phrase they yell, "Trick or Treat!"

Ah, right. I remember the children in Exsilium were rather fond of it.

[Before...you know. The nuclear bomb and all that. That kind of put a dampener on things.]

The candied apples are rather delicious.

Soooo good. Have you had chocolate candies?

[There's a tiny quirk of his lips. ]

I have. I also tried...I forgot what they were called. There was chocolate and marshmallow? Cooked together over a fire. They were very pleasant.

[ her answer is probably too enthusiastic ]

Earth has so many wonderful things.

[Maker, if her enthusiasm isn't adorable though. ]

Those are them, yes.

And it does. I admit, I have found quite a fondness for it since I was taken from Thedas.

[Perhaps, if the choice was ever given to him, he would take himself there, instead. Away from the world he knows, the world full of hate and magic and holes in the sky- somewhere...easier. ]

It is a good place, for someone to call home.

It has its ups and downs but I'm thankful that I'm from there now. So many amazing people have come into my life... I feel the same way about here, though too. Do I want to stay here forever? No, definitely not. But I'd love to figure out how not to lose all the relationships I've formed while here. Everyone is too important.

[She can always surprise him, how genuinely earnest she is about things like this. It's rare to see, hell, it's pretty much non-existent in Thedas. But her determination and kindness aren't a deterrent, they're refreshing. It's a comfort to know that people like her can exist in some places. That's not all darkness and terror. ]

I agree. I would rather not lose any more memories than I have already. Besides, if someone can gather from our worlds-multiple times, it seems, then there must be some kind of way to travel between them more regularly.

[This is what she has done for him, really. Made him feel like he could hope. ]

Well, I know for a fact from home that someone can travel between them, but so far it's just the one guy and I'm not sure he can necessarily control it.
