Why'd You Kill the Merchant?!

Who: ALL O' Y'ALL
Broadcast: If you want
Action: FRICK YEAH PARTY AT THE JUNKYARD...I mean, Waystation. Junkstation.
When: 10/07 - Event End

It looks more like a junk heap than a waystation, but luckily there aren't any math fetishists to add you to the pile (hopefully). Talk to the scavengers and heed their warnings...if you want. Or perhaps you'll approach a shady individual for purchasing or selling stuff.

"Welcome, stranger!"

It effects basically everything. You get a well-balanced blade, it's going to work with you on attack or defense. Also better for throwing. A badly balanced blade is something you'll have to fight to control right.

You seem to know a lot about these kinds of weapons- do you use them often?

[Throwing a knife at a certain Resistance pilot sounded nice but it would take practice to pull off. Still, having knowledge of even a primitive weapon might prove to be useful in close range.]

I use knives sometimes. Mostly combat knives. And they're a good weapon of last resort. But my specialty was saber. Better reach, and when you've got a plasma generator on it, you can cut through anything.

Such as a sword made of light and energy? [Of course he's heard about those kind of swords. He's even seen one up close and personal more times than he cared for.]

What kind generator do you use?

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-10-25 03:52 am (UTC)(link)
No, the blade's real, for normal combat usage. It's just got extensive magnetics to channel plasma so you can power that up in order to do shit like cut tanks in half. But I mean, when the plasma generator is on, it sure does cause the thing to glow. Because it's plasma.

[Shrug.] I don't know, that's something the weapons techs came up with. I don't know how it works other than the basic theory.

It's not easy to get a generator so small to be useful and practical in a weapon like that, I would love to see it if you had it with you.

[He was looking for any projects he could find here, he would take anything he could get honestly and this seemed interesting.]

Sergeant Gower's pretty fucking brilliant. But nah...nothing good from home came through with me. I picked up a laser sword at one of the other stations, and it's fun as a toy, but it's definitely not up to the standards of a tank cutter.

The parts I've seen here and on previous systems haven't been the best but perhaps there is a way to make what we can find more useful with some alterations.

[He really doesn't like weapons which are basically toys either. He misses his rarely used blaster even.]

It's been useful for some things, like making Charles's float chair. The weapons uses are really limited though.

Which is... Kinda weird when you think about it.
therewillbeorder: ([9])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2016-10-26 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
You managed to find parts here to make a floating chair?

[This is he surprised by. He had managed to find some interesting parts around but the power source would be the tricky part.]

I'm curious how you managed that.
pain_train: (oh come the fudge on)

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-10-27 05:06 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah. We've done a couple of iterations of it now, since the first one wasn't great--got the job done but didn't meet my specs and had shit for battery life--but it's a matter of just hunting for better parts at every stop and making some I guess?

[She shrugs.]

I'm not an engineer. But I tested a lot of float chairs when I was on medical discharge, so I could describe the concepts and specs and do some of the design work. The super smart engineers I got to help me did the real work. And me and Winter came up with all the credits to buy the materials.

[He supposed he shouldn't be too surprised that she knew Winter- the fleet wasn't that big relatively speaking but he kept his expression neutral.]

What did you use to power the chair?

I don't know? You'd have to ask Vision or Erik. They were the engineers on it.
therewillbeorder: ([9])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2016-11-03 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
Vision? I don't think I've met them before. Are they an engineer? [Asking Erik was definitely out of the question and a subject best avoided.]

He's the captain of my ship. And an engineer. And a computer person!

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2016-11-04 06:27 am (UTC)(link)
What ship are you on? It's always refreshing to be able to speak with someone who knows what a computer actually is.

[He's had to lower his expectations a lot when it came to assuming how advanced other people here were though. Anyone who knew how to put things together and who knew what a computer was seemed promising.]

I'm on the Windrose! Best ship in the fleet.

[She laughs.] Yeah, there are a lot of people who aren't used to tech, but it's not really their fault they come from like dark ages Earth.

You're from Earth as well? I've heard a lot about that planet, it seems most people here are from that one place.

[And honestly, he didn't see what was so special about a planet which hadn't even advanced far enough to go to their own moon. No one had been able to explain to him in a way that made sense.]

[personal profile] pain_train 2016-11-05 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
I'm not. My planet is an Earth colony, but I've never been to the home system. I've just like... Learned about it in school.

I think out of the people who come from some kind of Earth, I'm the furthest in the future?
therewillbeorder: ([9])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2016-11-05 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
Oh? I've heard most people from Earth aren't even familiar with their local star system- how far out is your colony from the Earth system in the galaxy?

I couldn't imagine being confined to one star system, let alone one planet.

It's like... more than ten gates out. We're really far away. But we've been stuck on our planet for like twenty years because there's an orbital debris cloud we can't launch ships through.
therewillbeorder: ([13])

[personal profile] therewillbeorder 2016-11-10 12:33 am (UTC)(link)
A pity no one has been able to clear it but those can be tricky for larger ships to deal with more often than not. There have been destroyers taken out by debris fields before.
