Sokka - OTA

[Sokka has been splitting his time between the Blue Fish and the planet. He's determined to find something useful in his fight against Atroma. Anything, really, to make him feel like he's made some kind of progress in two damn years. There's a temptation to go to the Marsiva, to see what the game room is all about, but he won't. That's where they want people to be, so obviously they're hiding something elsewhere.

As such, he can be found flciking through reams of paperwork, notes scribbled over his time in the Fleet- trying to find any kind of answer. He's muttering to himself. ]

Two

[When he's not obsessing over this, you can find him tinkering at the kitchen table. Hawky sits on a chair behind him, shifting his feet a little, clearly unimpressed with the proceedings. At some point, Sokka starts loading the contraption with protein gel, to which the bird squeaks unhappily. Sokka gives a dismissive wave of his hand. ]

Oh, come on, it'll be fine. I promise it won't explode this time. Relax.

One

[lightbends]

[Korra had decided to surprise Sokka with a visit from Naga and herself, hoping that might cheer up his obvious skepticism that was leading him to bury himself in paperwork. She hadn't seen the game room but she had gone for a run or two with Naga on the planet surface. When Korra eventually finds Sokka staring diligently at his work, she looks down at Naga, using one hand to signal that they should be quiet. Carefully, she tiptoes behind him, Naga moving equally quietly and haunched low to the ground. They were the picture of stealth.]

Hey, Sokka!

[Commence jumping in 3... 2...]

[Sokka has been absolutely engrossed in his paperwork, not paying attention to anything around him. As such, when Korra appears behind him and speaks, he leaps about three foot in the air, letting out a not-very-warrioresque-at-all-screech.

He spins around wide eyed, before...]

Oh. It's you.

[He takes a deep breath, trying to regain some pride. ]

Why do you feel the need to do these things? I swear it's like you're two Tophs, all in one.

[lightbends]

Who else would it be?

[Sorry Sokka, still laughing at you.]

Two? You should see her as a cranky old lady - she's not nearly as fun.

[Pulling a face just thinking about it.... :|]

[Sokks gives a soft scoff, sweeping some imaginary lint off his shirt. ]

Really? Does she at least still make spiteful, sarcastic comments? She loves that.

Yup. I kept trying to ask her to tell me stories about you guys and one of the ones I wanted to know was about Aang learning to Earthbend and she summarized it as Aang "got all whiny" and you fell in a hole. And then she hit me with mud and kicked my butt a lot.

[Seriously rood.]

So, I'd say she hasn't changed much from how you knew her.

[Long pause. ]

...You know, I think that just about covers the Earthbending story anyway. I mean, she got all the key factors in, anyway.

But that sounds like Toph. Nice to know she's still...her.

That's not very comforting.

[She had managed to catch his statement as she entered the kitchen. Despite the looming possibility of something exploding, she went about her usual routine of preparing a cup of tea for herself and for Robb. He was off somewhere, but she'd manage to find him and bring him something warm to drink.]

How often do you have to make that promise?

[He has to actually really consider that for a moment. ]

...More than ten, less than fifty times?

[SUPER comforting. He is the comfort master. ]

But I really mean it this time.

And how many times have you actually made it explode?

[She might be just a bit worried. But only just a bit.]

What are you trying to do and is it possible not to blow up the ship?

I'm trying to find a way to blend the proteins gels a little better, and it won't blow up the whole ship.

...Maybe just like...the table.

She steps away from the table, eyeing it with open concern.]

Oh don't worry, I'm sure it'll be fine.

[Maybe put something up to protect yourself all the same though. ]

I get bored, and it's better than sitting around waiting to see what Atroma'll do to us next.

[Allen is in the doorway, sharing the same concerns as Hawky honestly]

I thought if we put the paste into this machine, right? It could mix pastes together and then spread them on toast.

[Please stop him, he hasn't slept in like a week. ]

Sokka, we don't need a machine like that. That's what mixing by hand is for.

But with this we won't need to do that at all. It'll be I>convenient.

[Meanwhile, Beverly is off to the other side busy working on the synthehol production. By now she's gotten the process down smoothly and doesn't have to pay as much attention to it, so she's able to keep an eye on Sokka's doings as well. For the life of her, she can't figure out what he's trying to make or why it involves protein gel.

She turns and raises an eyebrow at his words.]

This time? What happened before?

[Look. Look. It's important science, okay? ]

...I might have set fire to the table a tiny little bit.

[dancingmd]

[She sighs with exasperation.]


Sokka.

Only a little bit. You can hardly notice it.

[Yeah. You can notice it. ]

Besides, i know it won't explode this time. I fixed it.

[Beverly raises a skeptical eyebrow.]

Maybe I should get the fire extinguisher ready, just in case?

If you want to be safe, I guess.

[No, really, GET TWO. He starts fiddling with the machine again. Hawky flaps off his perch and sits on Beverly's shoulder. You're safe and sane, he'll stick with you. ]

No faith in me gosh.
