[ It's about time. Pheobus' Crow isn't generally one to feel at all claustrophobic but between the strange hair-changing girl and the captain wannabe (though now he supposes he actually is captain, of all the misfortune) he's more than ready to spread his wings and work out the irritable little kinks that have been starting to build in the back of his mind.

The moment they're docked and the main doors open, Crow is gone from the ship and takes to the air. While the mall strip-like areas remain oddly bare and unwelcoming there's at least plenty of room for him to spread his wings and ample space to perch. The courtyard looks nice and all that, but something about having the vacuum of space above his head isn't quite so comforting as an actual roof.

So if you happen to be making your way through the outer ring of the way-station you might just hear the sound of a crow, cawing. Or maybe you're just crazy. Birds in space? Pshaw. ]

They simply need to have a desire. Something they wish to accomplish, though it can be anything they want really. If they have something they want more than anything else, something they cannot accomplish or achieve with their own abilities...then that is the sort of Master I seek.

[ He sits up a little straight, fidgets and flaps less. For a moment he looks less a crow and more akin to something human. Not in appearance, but his general gesture and manner; his eyes are keen, too. ]

[ he's not sure how to answer that. truth be told, even he wants something like that--but it's something crow can't provide for him. he knows it's something he has to do himself, so he can't even help. well, how's that for helpless?

... on top of that, he feels like the entire world is stuck still. why does he feel like this is a pivotal moment? ]

I'll keep an eye out. Everyone wants something. What happens if you don't have a Master?

[ Evasive. How...cute. And interesting. Most people would ask what sorts of things he can do, but this one just accepts it. Almost as if he lacks curiosity? But that doesn't feel quiet right. ]

I remain as I am. Really there's no consequence for it other than staying a bird. Did you expect there to be a downside?

[ he shrugs. ]

[ wait, crow. animal. might not know how to read, thus doesn't know how fairytales go. uhhhhh... though, he said that he remains as he is. he gives him a glance over. ]

... unless being a crow is your normal form, most people would think being stuck as a crow would be a downside.

[ ...Ah. He almost said it--and Crow can't help standing up a bit straighter as he does, head turning to face him straight-on instead of from the side. Part of him wants Riku to finish that sentence, to hear that title spoken aloud. The admission that he exists.

He's tickled. ]

The answer to that is both yes...and no. I need only be as capable as my Master desires me to be, so whether I am a crow or not depends on them.

Hm...

[ he laughs a little. so the person in charge decides what crow is or isn't? ]

No matter how you look at it, that sounds like a fairytale. [ he exhales. ] Can a Master order you to be free?

But of course; they can give whatever order they wish if I am under Servitude. I would be duty-bound to obey.

[ that just makes him make a confused, if slightly pleased noise. ]

I guess, if you're lucky, you could end up with someone like that.

I don't believe in luck. [ But he sounds amused all the same. ]

Just human nature. Most Masters I have served have enjoyed my...versatility too much to desire such a thing.

[ that hits him a little too close to home; his head bows slightly and his jaw clenches. he's not unused to the concept of being used as means to an end, despite what it does to him or the people around him. what happened as a result will never truly heal, and he knows it, and he really hates the idea of crow going through the same thing.

he tries to sense him out, and it's strange to--there's smoke, lots of it. incense, tobacco--it settles on him like a dense fog, and he's not quite sure what to make of it. ]

How long have you been like this?

[ And there it is--in the duck of his head, the knitting of his brows; the way his shoulders tense just slightly. All it begs is the one question Riku is only too willing to supply and Crow is suddenly quite glad for his emotionless face. Surely he'd have a disconcerting grin upon it otherwise.

Pity isn't the same as ambition, but he can still make use of it. ]

Two thousand and nine years, by my own world's timing. Not too sure what it would be all the way out here.

[ that's a big number.

it's a huge number, and riku's not quite sure what to say. two thousand and nine years of that? he's kept going for around two, now--times a thousand and plus a few more... he's not sure he could keep it up for that long, honestly. how does crow do it, then? ]

I think it's still the same.

[ but what can he do for him, in that case? riku doesn't want anything crow could attain for him--it's solely to do with his heart and his strength. ]

Is there any way I could help?

[ If he only knew. Not that Crow has any intentions to tell him unless asked directly and under the right conditions. It's much more convenient for him the less he actually tells Riku. Portions of the truth usually serve him quiet well in his dealings.

He has a feeling this one will be no different. ]

The only one who could free me is my Master. But as I said, certain conditions must be fulfilled. If you have no drive or desire there is nothing I can do for you. And therefor, nothing you can do for me.

[ he's quiet for a long while as he thinks, closing his eyes and bowing his head. he wants to free him. every part of him is screaming at him to just take it, to let him free, but... he knows that's not right. he can't just recklessly--irresponsibly take this on. there's too much at stake in his own world, and riku can't really order anyone around anyway. he's really bad at that. ]

Well, I'll find someone who can.

Please do, if you can find someone sufficient... Though I do prefer to choose them myself. Your sentiment is noted; it's a shame that you lack such a drive. [ Because someone who can use magic would've been exceptionally useful to him. ]

[ he rubs the back of his neck. ]

That's not really the problem... I've got plenty of drive, but I don't think what I want, you could give me. Plus, I'm not that good of a Master.

[ WAIT ]

Uh, I wouldn't--... be.

[ Well that's an interesting response. A very interesting a response; Crow can't resist picking at it at least a little, cawing quietly. ]

Do you lack confidence?

[ did he really just slip up in that? sheesh, what's happening to him? crow may be a bird, but he's capable of thought. keep it close to the vest, riku... ]

You could say that.

[ No by all means, feel free to keep thinking of him as a simple lowly crow and screw up and much as you want; Phoebus' crow would absolutely love that. ]

You appear quite capable to me... Even magically gifted; that alone sets you apart from your peers. You ought to feel proud.

[ yeah no he's smarter than that

riku looks shyer than he did before, a little bit of red coming to his ears as he shakes his head idly. ]

I've done horrible things in the past, and I haven't learned from them yet. I'm still a work in progress. [ looking over at crow, he smiles, even if it's kind of subdued. ]

So you don't have to say stuff like that. I'm gonna make sure you find someone no matter what, you don't have to butter me up.

Please, do not receive my words as idly flattery. I speak but plain truth from my end. [ Truth to varying degrees anyway... ] Recognizing your own faults is often the first step to learning from them. I think if you can at least do that much you'll do quite a lot better than most humans I encounter.

[ He stretches his wings and flaps his way down to the seat of the bench, walking over to the portion closest the silver-haired teen. ]

At the very least you are kind. The same cannot be said for much of those I've met on this station.

[ riku doesn't flinch nor scoot away, just peering down at him. ~~come sit on his shoulder pretty bird~~ ]

Are you talking about the guy who'll throw stuff at you, again? What's his name, anyway?

I believe his name is Gin. [ He's tempted... ]

[ elbow on his knee, and open palm supporting his chin, riku looks off. ]

To keep an eye on him. Who knows what other kinds of things he does if he likes throwing things at innocent people.
