"What smells so good?" Kitty asks before she makes it into the kitchen. If she were on the Windrose the thought of Vision—when he was still here—cooking for the crew was normal enough. And then Winn being the people pleaser that he is could be doing some cooking, but she just left him in his room. When she enters her eyes widen at the sight.

"So many waffles." Sorry, Jarvis. Priorities. You understand. Suddenly the gift she gave the crew here seems so much more genius. She finally looks over to the cook.

"You must be my new best friend."

Jarvis looks crossed between surprised and humbled — indeed, he takes good pride in pretty much whatever he's attempting to achieve for the day. Waffles are by no means a difficult job, but he puts his complete focus into making sure it's a fitting breakfast. The whole reason he'd scoured the shops aboard the Corsiva was for a decent topping; in the end, there's a jar of fine jelly — not any fruit you'd recognize, but he tested it for comparing notes; it's not too bad.

He smiles, pleasant.

"You flatter me, miss, but they're simply waffles. I apologize for the simplicity."

"It's too early for complexity, best friend." She even yawns as if to drive home the point and takes a seat. "Are you sharing? If you're not then I'm going to have to retract your title. It's your choice. You just need to know the stakes."

Oh, don't be silly. He puts down a plate in front of her from a nice little stack he has on the counter, placing different condiments down within her reach. It's done as if this is a very normal part of his day-to-day schedule.

(Which it is.)

"I would hate to lose a title; please enjoy, I can hardly put this all away on my own."

Hm.

"You're not a member of the crew. Company of someone here, I take it?"

"Thanks."

She's surprised he's actually serving her waffles in addition to letting her have them at all. Sure, she did provide the waffle maker, but it was a gift. Her expression turns bemused when he points her out as not being a member of the crew. It's completely true, but she spends half her nights here and to her he felt like the out-of-place one even though he is her best friend.

"Already met everyone? I guess that makes sense. We've been at the hotel most of the time. I'm Kitty Pryde. Winn's girlfriend from he Windrose. I'm around a lot."

"Oh, how marvelous. It's nice to hear that you have each other, even in a place like this."

He does look enthused by the idea, though wistful in his own right; after all, he's going such a long time without his dearest Ana. It's terrible. He looks a bit embarrassed as he sorts the condiments on the table — lined with a table cloth he'd purchased, just to keep the area warm and well-kept.

"... I've been keeping track of the roster, since everyone is currently preoccupied with stations and planets and whatnot. I apologize if I sounded unwelcoming, Miss Pryde."

"Thanks. It is." She can be silly in love at times over him. He takes the ruthless X-Man right out of her sails. "You'll find me here a lot."

She experiments with the condiments. Waffles are great for that. Grid-style eating. "It's not a problem. Best friends are very forgiving."

He looks a bit surprised; part of him is assuming that Ms. Pryde is just teasing him for fun now, referring to him as a friend at all. But then, Jarvis is not used to having... friends. His life is quite devoid of a lot of relationships, outside of Stark and his darling Ana. Sometimes it's just easier not to make friends - after what happened in Europe during the war... the treason and dishonorable discharge, well. He had a lot of ties cut. It was a bit painful, if he's honest, but he'll never admit as much; he would never want to hurt Ana's heart with such a thing.

"So I've heard," he finally says, smiling just the slightest. "Well. I could do with some friends aboard the fleet. I don't suppose I get out much, and that will surely have to change with all of my current free time."

Oh, she's definitely teasing by repeating it. That doesn't mean she isn't completely ready to be friendly and perhaps friends. She tends to be protective and attached to her crew and she's adopted the Tourist. And she wasn't teasing about it not being a problem. It wouldn't have been under any circumstances but with the added bonus of waffles she's very pleased.

"The free time is kind of intense here. When we're docked somewhere I usually do a lot of exploring there, but otherwise there's the Iskaulit. It has a gym, library, lecture hall, garden, bars, and some other things." She's basically listing them in order of her own interests while leaving out the fox park where she loves to go pet fluffy things.

She looks up from her waffle topping testing experiments. "But you're right. Friends are the best part of free time." That is way too much sentiment to linger on. "What's your name? No promises that I'll use it of course."

"I'm all too eager to explore these docked areas, to be sure. I've already done quite a bit of wandering on the Corona; I must admit, it's a lot for someone so simple as myself to absorb."

He is a bit thankful she's taken to conversation. He's out of things to make currently without seeming like a psychopath, and his hands itch to have more of anything to occupy his time while his brain wanders a million light years away.

He unties his waist apron.

"Edwin Jarvis. I'm known as Jarvis to most, but Mr. Jarvis is a fan favorite. I've also heard Jarv, Jeeves, Mr. Englishman, and - less popular - The Butler. Though I'm sure if you're anything like my employer, you'll find far more creative names."

He's already onto you, Kitty. :|

If making too many waffles makes you a psychopath then who needs to be neurotypical? The way he calls himself simple doesn't exactly sit right with her as she looks up at him.

"You can just skip trying to learn anything from the museum there. Everything I have familiarity with that's mentioned there is not exactly accurate."

She might have gone on with more banter or tips if not for his name. It clearly catches her off guard and her voice comes softer in response. "Jarvis?" It's not that she thinks there's any relation here. The Jarvis that Vision mentioned being a part of him was an AI. But Vision used to make her breakfast sometimes too and someone not properly mourned when you lose them can come back as a punch to the feels when you're reminded. And who has time to properly mourn in a place like this. The longer you stay and the more people you know, the more you lose. And she misses her captain. He was one of the first people she bonded with and felt comfortable with in the fleet.

She ducks her head again, wanting very much to reign all of that back in immediately. "These waffles are great. Did you already eat?" Still not looking up.

"Oh, I'm quite alright. I think testing the first few drafts of those waffles has gotten me rather full."

He is a bit jolly, but there's an underlying uncertainty and worry -- after all, it's easy to catch even the short moment of discomfort, of potential sadness, and for a moment he wonders if he's done something terribly wrong. After all, it would be easy to ignite terrible memories or feelings aboard a fleet full of (for better or worse) captives.

"Did I... say something unpleasant, Miss Pryde? I can be sure not to mention whatever it was again, if it helps at all." Surely his name wasn't the culprit... Or perhaps it was? This is Concerning, with a capital C.

She shakes her head before looking up at him again. "No. You didn't. Jarvis is just, [how to put it?] a friend's former name. He left the fleet recently. I'm being sentimental I guess. It never looks good on me." She manages a small smile.

Oh, of all the bloody luck.

He smiles sympathetically. Winces a bit with it, really, but the sympathy is still all there.

"There's absolutely nothing wrong with sentimentality. It's a good look on anyone, in my humble opinion." He smiles more warmly as he settles in his chair. "... Perhaps it's good that it was a former name, though; my employer had been on board, and I can already imagine Mr. Stark would have been snapping fingers to fetch the mustard."

And lord, maybe Howard would have offered this fellow a job in that case!

You have just purchased one look of surprise, Mr. Jarvis!

"Wait, Stark was your employer?" Is it more than a coincidence? But usually you can tell if someone isn't exactly organic.

"Are you an AI?" ~~Oh my god, Kitty, you can't just ask someone if they're an AI.~~

He seems just as confused as her now! Great! Good company.

"A - I beg your pardon? I'm a butler of Mr. Stark's estate."

... Many estates, rather, but that's unimportant. "Howard Stark, that is. I've learned of Anthony Stark's existence, but I'm afraid that I'm a bit before his time." A swallow, a dance of his head. "... Thus far."

"...Oh." She should probably have the good sense to be embarrassed but it's more like disappointment instead. At least a flicker of it. The thought of having some of Vision back was appealing. Things fall into a certain order with that explanation though. Howard must be Tony's dad and Tony must have built his AI and named him after his father's butler. At least that's as close to knowing the situation and she was likely to get at the moment and it made enough sense to her—as much as just about anything in her life seemed to make.

"Sorry. I guess the other Jarvis was after your time too. If it's any consolation I thought you'd have to be a very advanced AI."

"Oh, indeed."

He shifts uncomfortably, feeling like he was missing pieces to a puzzle he'd been assigned to.

"I suppose that is... some comfort. I admittedly feel a bit in the dark."

He sighs.

"Though that hasn't been a new theme aboard the fleet."

"It'll get brighter." She gives him a soft smile. She hadn't meant to make him feel uncomfortable after he went and made them all waffles.

"Is there anything I can help with?" She hopes he asks about propulsion or something, but if it's more about being an AI then she can handle that too.

He flashes a professional smile, because there's hardly any reason to not push through and figure this all out on his own time; she's given enough for today. He'll make due. Instead he shakes his head and stands up.

"That's quite alright. I'll be cleaning up my cooking mess — you go ahead and enjoy your meal, Miss Pryde. Though I wouldn't mind mindless conversation if you don't. Since I've yet to have a working radio with any decent tunes."

"Well, we can try." It's not that she doubts her ability to talk to someone, but when has mindless conversation ever been her thing? They'll be talking about genocide in under five minutes. "Probably not so much radio in space. Winn has some music on his phone though. Have you met him? Do you know the crew?"

"Oh, yes! Mr. Schott welcomed me when I first arrived."

He glances over his shoulder, a little humored.

"He seemed very excited that I cook. Perhaps I can barter with him; music for waffles."

"He's the best. And cooking is extremely exciting especially when supplies run low and none of the food seems anything like food. Is that your augment too?" She should probably mention that Winn wouldn't need the trade, right? But if it keeps her in food she can steal from his plate...

"Oh, no, my augment is pilot actually."

He rubs the small bump on the back of his neck, holding back a wince.

"I'm just extremely fond of cooking. Thanks to my granny, really, god rest her soul. I suppose I just view this all as — a decent challenge. And a good respite from being constantly confused. Space and advanced technology, and all."

At least cooking is relatively straight forward.

"Good. They needed a pilot. I mean, I'm here a lot, but the Windrose needs me for the piloting. You know, except for the part where it would just autopilot fine with no one." Makes you feel all warm and needed.

"Mmm, well, advanced technology is just technology you're not familiar with yet. You probably didn't know everything about how a radio works, but they're comfortable, right? You'll get there." Says the tech genius.
