Hmm... [Jennifer stopped and took a closer look.] It depends on your physiology and ability to resist disease.

Physiology... Oh! I am made of plants. I think that means I don't have to worry about blood or flesh things.

[ When he says "made of plants", he means living plants all grown together. ... Which is how his clothing is, grown out of him. ]

[Jennifer smiles.]

I'd say better safe than sorry, but I think you might be okay. If you're composed of plant matter, I'm not sure it would even be possible to inject the shot, anyway.

[ He taps his head a couple of times for some very plant-hitting-plant sounds. ]

... Something about veins, right? [ New knowledge is weird, okay? ]

[She nods.]

Humans have an entire bodily system called the circulatory system to carry blood. There's an organ in our chests- the heart- that acts as a pump, and veins take blood to our other organs and body systems. That's why we inject vaccinations and such into veins.

[She regards the one speaking to her with interest.] Sounds like you won't have that concern, though.

Oh! Yes, we don't have the pump - the heart, so there isn't any of the pulsing when we bleed.

[ He pauses after a moment, thinking. ]

... but we get stiff and tingly if we sit on a leg for too long. Or if it's tied or something?

[ So more like a plant's vascular system. ]

[Jennifer listens.]

Sounds like how a plant would behave, yes. Sorry, I find you to be pretty interesting- I feel like I'm staring too much. [She laughs nervously.]

You are not angry staring, and you are not calling me names, so it's okay.

[ And he reaches over and pats her head, even. See, all okay. ]

[Jennifer has to smile at that.]

I'd never call anybody names, thankfully- except for their real name. Mine's Jennifer.

I am Asteffiel. [ He thinks for a moment, then adds. ]

And I am a Sylvari.

I'm glad to meet you, Asteffiel- I've never met someone like you before. Back where I come from, I've only met other humans and members of a species called Wraith. I didn't even know humans weren't the only ones out there until a few years ago, in fact.

... Isn't that a little boring? Only humans? No little Asura with their golems, or giant Norn, or Charr who look fluffy but are very grumpy.

Earth has many, many species of animals and plants, but humans are the only sentient species native to the planet, yes. I know of a few others, but most of them look and function more or less like humans, and I've only ever directly interacted with the Wraith. They evolved from a species of insect.

Like bunnies and crows and fern hounds! [ One of those things is not like the other, Asteffiel. Dogs also made of plants aren't normal-

.... Insect? Weird. ]

... Like how Norn look like really tall humans! [ That's what he's getting from this. ]

I don't know of any bug-people. There are little rat people, called Skritt, and ... mole people, called Dredge! .. Oh! And bird-people, called Tengu, and the bear-people up by the Norn called Kodan!

That's right- well, we don't have fern hounds, but we do have rabbits and crows. [She then listens.] Yeah, we don't have nearly that variety on Earth. They all sound so fascinating, though- I'd never known any worlds other than mine existed before coming here.

.... Why do you call your world after what you stand on? Does anyone get confused, with earth being what you plant in and also where you live?

[ He got distracted. ]

... That's a good question. Nobody ever mixes it up, though... probably because we have nations and cities and countries as well.

[innercactus]

Does no one mix it up because you are always in a city, and so you go by that? But what if something goes across more than one country?

That doesn't happen an awful lot- there are some landmarks and mountain ranges and such that do cross borders, but they all have their own names, too. Basically, you say where you are by wherever it is you're standing. The planet as a whole is called Earth.

.... It still sounds complicated.

[She smiles.]

Yeah. I think it helps that we're taught geography in school... and not a lot of people tend to travel much further than the place they were born, anyway. I know I didn't go much further beyond my hometown until I went to med school.

School is how you learn? It's something you do when you're.. fleshlings? [ Baby is the wrong word here, he thinks, but he doesn't remember the other. ]

Yeah- all humans attend some form of it. After you go through 12 or so years of learning many different subjects, you can go to a more specialized school. In my case, it was medical school so I could become a doctor. Though I was younger than most people when I entered- I am what some might call a genius. Not to sound egotistical...

Ooooh. We wake up knowing some things! [ Like how to function. ]

But we have to learn everything else. There are some mentors, older Sylvari, but then we just go and learn by doing.

That sounds useful, though- there's only so much you can learn by reading it in a book. A big part of my education in med school was practicing the skills I read about so I could be ready to do them on other humans.
