[ Aaron's grip only tightens unconsciously at the tension. His tremble's much more obvious now and his fingers spasm every now and then despite an attempt to keep them still. ]

What kind of deeds? That's... really vague.

[The tension only increases, which brings with it a slightly annoyed tone]

Of course it's vague. It's magic. But think of it as a large hourglass fill with sand. A small trickled will fill a large container given enough time. This mostly only applies to long-term workings, of course.

[He glares at Aaron's hand]

[ Aaron grips just a bit tighter before he can make himself let go and he steps away, hands wringing behind his back while he tries to hold himself still. This sucks. Why is it so hard to find powers, much less powers he can take without anyone being able to trace it back to him? Why is he stuck with these people? ]

What about short-term?

[Because the universe hates them both? Who knows.

He gives Aaron a long look, the grains of suspicion sinking into the expression. Something is off about the man right now, but he can't put a finger on what]

Then you usually need more power to do more. It depends on what you're trying to accomplish.

[The nervous energy is getting to him]

Powers. Stop hovering and have a seat, would you?

Powers?

[ That gets a bit of a startled motion before Aaron catches himself, then he reluctantly moves to a chair opposite Felix. ]

Humor me. What kind of things can you accomplish?

[He give Aaron a put upon look rather than rolling his eyes]

It's an expression. Similar to God or Jesus, I believe, if you're from Earth. You're awfully single-minded...

[Which doesn't necessarily mean he won't answer the question. Any opportunity to ramble about his craft.]

Very well, but humor me first. What do you know about magic?

It's a big thing where I'm from, okay?

[ Shut up. It's not like he's in withdrawal or anything. Your face is dumb. ]

Nothing. I mean... there's stuff people call magic where I'm from but it's just their powers. The kind of things that aren't so clear-cut, but there's a... a pattern, a logic to it.

[lord_wizard]

[He considers this. It isn't much to work with. Powers aside, explaining the specifics of his magic often leads to blank expressions.]

Hm. Well, there often is. People often tend to equate magic with miracles, and that's simply not the case.

[He sets his book face down so he won't lose his page]

Or perhaps not the case with myself. There isn't a single concrete answer to this question. I can manipulate energy: fire, electricity, and light mostly, though I've experimented with ice in recent years. The primary focus of my school was wards, which is protecting objects or people, usually within a given area. There's also oneiromancy...dream magic...though that's not a very concrete discipline, especially to non-magic users. I have also learned how to see the spirits of the dead.

[He hesitates for a moment, turning his gaze away]

There are also things I can do, as you phrased, mostly in the theoretical sense, that I will not do. [Not again. Hopefully.]

Won't do because you don't like it, or won't do because you shouldn't?

[ That's an important distinction to Aaron. There are things you decide for yourself, then the things you let other people decide for you. He isn't so fond of that latter one. ]

Because magic sounds pretty great to me.

[Felix isn't either, but in this case he tends to agree with the logic. Granted, some of things he listed were technically things that skirted the edges of his oaths or depended on their particular use. Casting fire directly at a person was heresy. Casting it at an object a person was holding technically was not. Wizards were particularly good at loopholes like that.

His lips thin a bit at a the question, though.]

There is a considerable amount of overlap between those things. The restrictions of my oaths exist for a reason - because they hurt people. I have seen what some of that kind of magic can do [Because he was the one casting it, but he won't admit that to Aaron] and will not be party to that.

[He fixes the shapeshifter with a serious look. He might be cavalier about a lot of things, but magic isn't one of them]

It can be very useful, yes, but it can do terrible things in the wrong hands. Nor is it easy.

Wow.

[ Aaron sits back, attempting to hold himself still for all that he wants to reach across the table and slip that power away from Felix. It sounds like he doesn't appreciate it properly and Aaron would do so much better with it anyway... ]

You sound like an after school special.

[He appreciates it plenty, but has been present for far too many cases of what the misuse of it looks like. The teacher-ly tone he slips into is more of a matter of course, after his months of relaying these exact messages to the students Lord Stephen had dumped into his lap.]
