[In an effort to explore, Nunnally makes her way near the temple. But she's never... well, there was never an emphasis on religion growing up, and she feels out of place. But as she's about to turn back she notices a certain blonde girl going about her day! If Shirley seems to be leaving the temple, Nunnally will wave and roll her chair towards her]

Good afternoon! It's... Shirley, yes?

[Oh, it's been a while! Shirley smiles, glad to see a familiar face, and heads to meet Nunnally halfway.]

Yes, that's me. And you're Nunnally, right?

[phew, she's glad that she remembered that right. Well.... she knows her own Shirley, so it's an easy name for her to remember]

Mm hm. It's been a while, hasn't it?

[she glances at the temple for a moment before looking back at Shirley]

How have you been?

I've been well. Thinking of home, lately...

[She notices where Nunnally's looking, and guesses that it might help a little to elaborate.]

Being here helps me feel a little closer, even if I can't go back yet.

[she smiles a little. It's nice when things here can make people feel closer to the place where they want to be]

Is religion important in your homeland?

In a way. They do things differently here, but where I come from the Ferines respect the will of the sea more than anything.

[blindoptimism]

Really...? [she ponders it] Is the Ferines the name of a city?

[hearsthesea]

Ah...no, it's our race. The name means "people of the water."

[blindoptimism]

Oh, I see. [huh...]

If I may ask, why are you so in tune with the water? Do you live near the ocean?

[hearsthesea]

It's no problem to ask. It's an important part of who I am, so I don't need to hide it.

[These days, anyway.]

The Ferines used to live in the ocean, a long time ago. Things have changed since those times, but our people have always been connected to the sea. It's somehow lasted even out here, far from home...that's why I came to thank Nerifes today.

[blindoptimism]

Thank you. [aw, she appreciates how open Shirley is. But she'll shut up now and listen. And when Shirley finishes her explanation, Nunnally nos and looks impressed]

That's incredible... what a rich history.

[Shirley can't help but smile. That sort of appreciation is the kind of thing she wishes she could see more often at home.]

To be honest, it's more complicated than just that...but what I said was true. The Ferines will always be the people of the water.

It was just so nice and quiet here, I visited on a whim.

It is rather nice, isn't it? It's different from what I'm used to, but I understand why it works for the people here.

Hm? [she looks curious] Are temples more bustling in your world?

We don't have many things like them, actually. I was surprised to see so many at first.

[blindoptimism]

So then... instead of temples, is it traditional to spend time at the waterfront? [she's just making guesses]

[Shirley looks thoughtful for a moment.]

I suppose so. Nerifes isn't the type to demand attention, but our settlements are never too far from the water. It's part of our culture.
