[It sure is a lovely day actually pretty much indeterminate time period out here in the vast darkness of space, isn't it? I bet everyone's enjoying themselves, getting a chance to get off their dinky little ship and stretch their legs. Even on this shitty, empty little waystation.

[ooc: hi everyone! I thought I'd give this a try and see how the game liked it. What we have here is a mass mingle post. Rather than everyone making a bunch of different posts about landing on the station, everyone is invited to post a parent comment with their character out and about, doing something. Everyone else is invited to look at who's posted, tag them, post their own parent comments, thread jack, tag around and generally have a grand old time! It should hopefully be a nice low-pressure way to do some action tagging with each other.

[That recovery time sure takes its time... so she can guess something is a little wrong. Shoot. She didn't want to bother him. She squints and takes a guess.] Did I interrupt a meditation? I'm sorry... [She doesn't wanna press it beyond that, but yeah.]

I was going to ask if you wanted to coordinate what we bought. I guess I'm assuming you'll buy something.

No, I-- [ well, being a part of a crew means you have to be open with them, right? of all people, even if riku's quiet about it, he should at least tell them. ] My... eyesight isn't good, everything's blurry. So I rely on my senses, like scent--I just haven't remembered yours yet. Couldn't tell who you were.

I was thinking about getting some of the food they have here. [ he rubs his neck. ] I don't know how to cook with the stuff they have on the ship, but this--? I can.

[She crouches down near him, resting her chin in her hands.

If there's one thing Rin's good at, it's secrets. He can trust, though he doesn't know that yet, that she won't be spreading this private information around.]

On scent, really...? That's pretty impressive. [Assuming he's got the normal human sense of smell, which would be nothing to sing about, really. Sidetracked from her buying plans by this revelation.]

[ pink touches his face as he shrugs, looking down. ]

It's--not a big deal. [ he exhales, fidgets, before looking in her direction with a little smile. ] I'll remember it in a little while. Robin's is hard to forget.

Anyway, what were you gonna buy?

[Is he shy? That makes her smile. How modest. She covers her mouth with her fingers when he looks at her so he doesn't see she's amused - although if that works, well, who knows - and then hums.]

I was thinking of a deck of cards. We can play a lot of games with them and different people can play.

What does Robin smell like?

[ he's not sure why people smile at him like that. his shoulders hunch a little.

card games, though? part of him thinks i've had enough of cards to last me for a lifetime, and the other part points out that he won't play anyhow. after all, that'd probably include the whole crew... riku's not sure of his place yet. ]

Sounds like something that'd get everyone interested.

[ the query, however, makes him shift, and he scratches his cheek as he looks away. ]

Cinnamon rolls, bonfire, and hot incense. I don't know how that works.

Hm... so I guess you're not talking about, you know... a normal sense of smell at all. [The smile disappears and she stares at him. Rin has the air of a camera lens sometimes, or the far end of a telescope: open but opaque, receiving and not broadcasting.] Robin is sweet, even if he can be irresponsible. He wants to be a good friend. [It's said with quiet fondness.] But he's never smelled like that to me.

[limitstorm]

[ he gives a little laugh. ]

I'm not a bloodhound, if that's what you thought I meant.

[ he pauses, voice growing a little softer. ]

It's like... a moral compass, with scent. If someone smells good, they're a good person. But... it's not as black and white as it sounds. I wasn't worried when he said he wanted to be captain--because of what you just said.

I can tell he's not a bad person.

Well, when you say smell, that's what it sounds like! [She smiles again, and then looks intent as she thinks about that.] What a useful thing to be able to do. So you can tell if someone's a bad person though? What does Michael smell like? [The look she gives him now might even have the element of soft challenge to it.] What do I smell like?

I can definitely tell if someone's a bad person.

[ he says it gravely, and with a bit of hollowness; he's had plenty of time to figure that out. some people are just trickier to scent. he holds up two fingers as he recites. ]

Michael smells like... dirt [ GRIMACE, that sounds bad ] --but the good kind. You know, that smell you get when someone just planted a tree or... a park on a cool day? Smoke and chocolate, too. Not incense or fire, but... cigarettes.

You smell kind of like spring. There's flowers and trees--it's like a spring forest, just after the sun came up and everything's covered in dew. Fresh water, too, like a spring.

[She looks appropriately serious when when he sounds like that... there must be a story in there, and she considers the idea of pressing for more information and then discards it. Later, maybe.]

I guess I've been around farms. Is that the kind of thing you mean? [She's assuming it is. It sounds right.]

Hm. So that makes me a good person, then?

[limitstorm]

Yeah. At least, as far as I can tell. [ his shoulders hunch, hair falling into his eyes. ] I'm not sure what smelling like a forest or cinnamon rolls is supposed to mean, if it means anything...

But I guess I wouldn't be surprised if Robin ate a whole bunch of them, though. He seems like the kind of guy.

[Oh, well, that makes her giggle. Her eyes bow shut.]

[ his smile falls into self-consciousness, and he scratches his cheek. ]

Uh... no. I don't know anyone else who can.

[... he's so sweet and so shy. She smiles at him kindly.]

Nothing as impressive as that. [Also, it's kind of a secret.] Anyway, I was going to talk to you about what you wanted to buy.

[ so, yes.

Mm, like I said--probably food. I know how to cook that, at least.

I'm planning to buy something fun to do that we can share... like I said. If you're buying food, I think Robin's buying... well, probably some alcohol. [She grins a little.] That seems well rounded.
