I must say the good folk of this stop are very kind - they have allowed my brother and I use of the mines and forges here in exchange for some trading. My brother and I are going to be working on some proper swords - if anyone else is inclined to a bladed weapon, we are happy to make you one as well.

Grandfather, Fingon, you needn't ask, but your help in the forges would be invaluable - Maedhros and I manage, of course, but neither of us are... what we were. And we have neither Father, nor Curvo, nor Tylepe here to point out everything we are doing wrong!

Don't need it yet, but in case? I'd like to have a smith who can repair me.

Yourself? [ Maglor blinks, looking thougtfully at the blade. A smiliar one to the one requested by the young gentleman earlier? Aye, we could manage that - but there are no forges onboard, is the problem. Not unless we found ways to build them.

[ WHICH WOULD BE USEFUL, NOW HE THINKS ABOUT IT ]

If you ain't got a forge on board, how d'you expect to be able to make swords in the first place?

[ ... okay that's new ]

You are... the spirit of the blade? [ alright then... ]

Ah, but we are not on board - my brother and I, we are down on one of the worlds, near the mines. They are quite good to us, here.

Yeah, a tsukumogami is a spirit that lives in stuff. I live in this sword. Have been for about...five or six hundred years now.

[But the human body? That's new.]

But if the forges are only here, I guess that kinda makes it less useful for me. I just got here and haven't seen any worthwhile battles yet.

[A beat.]

You ain't thinkin' of making a forge, are you? 'Cause that seems like it'd be useful.

Fascinating! How did you gain a physical form?

[ He nods ]

Now you mention it, it would be useful. We were but recently attacked by raiders - there are some concerns it might occur again.

[He shrugs.]

My saniwa, like a sage, summoned me to fight a war. Gave me this physical form and now here I am.

[aka *~magic~*]

But raiders? Damn! Sorry I missed that. Sounds like it would've been a hell of a fight. You think it could happen again?

[He sounds very hopeful about that. Please tell them they might be attacked again.]

I do not think I know what a Saniwa is! But I imagine it must be useful to be able to wield yourself.

We fear so. [ Maglor sighs. ] One pointed out that war makes for good ratings. [ He sounds bitter, old and tired ]

It's nice to be free from human hands. And it's easier for us to move through time than them.

[But hey! Upside is that war is coming here! Maybe. Someday. Even if Maglor is displeased about it, Doudanuki sounds happy for once.]

Must be why I got brought here. If you're gonna fight a war, might as well get a war sword.

A war blade, hm? [ A quiet, tired smile ]

Maybe. I would not refuse a good blade if war does come.

Yep, some of the best ever forged.

[He's proud of that, even if war swords aren't really in fashion anymore.]

Well, if you can promise me repairs, then I can give you my blade. Haven't been in a fight since I got here, so I could do with a little blood.

Long may it be until your wish is fulfiled. [ Maglor says gravely, but then he smiles ]

We would need a forge on board, but if we manage that, then you would be most welcome.

[He knows that non-weapons have a hard time with war, but he still wrinkles his nose at the sentiment.]

Well met, Doudanuki Masakuni. Maglor, at your service. Is there a name you prefer to be called?

[He shrugs.]

Doudanuki's fine. Some people called me Doutanuki 'cause of a stageplay, but it doesn't bother me whichever one you wanna use.

Maglor, huh? Where you from? That name doesn't sound like anything I've heard before.

Doudanuki, then. [ Maglor nods and laughs softly ]

Nor does yours! But few do, here. I do not think you will know the lands of my birth - but I was born in Valinor, although these days I wander the lands of Eriador, in Middle-earth.

Yeah...you're right. I don't know that at all.

[He's blunt, but at least he's honest??]

I was forged in Japan. Some of my blades went as far as America, but I don't really remember that very well.

As much as your names are to me, yes. [ Maglor says wryly ]

Can you tell me of your world?

[He shrugs and scratches the back of his head, looking away.]

...Can't really tell you a lot.

I was forged back about six hundred years ago, was used in a bunch of wars and battles against foreign shores and people in my own country. But then the wars ended and I got stuck in sheds and warehouses, or melted for scrap.

[He grimaces at those memories. They're unpleasant, but it's the truth.]

Recently I got brought back in this body to fight a war again, but I don't see a lot of the outside world still. Too busy fightin' or stayin' at the Citadel.

What about you? The Valin..place or the other one, Middle-Earth?

I suppose that would be a problem, if you had no physical body, then. [ Maglor agrees ]

I am sorry to hear you were so ill treated! A good blade ought to be properly cared for. But perhaps now you will have your chance to see the world around you, even though this is not your own.

[ He pauses, and there is something painfully wistful ]

Valinor was beautiful. I suppose you could even call it paradise, of a sort. But I love Middle-earth very much, although many of my memories there are coloured in pain. But it is beautiful, and in some places, still very wild. There is much to see there, and all her peoples contribute something to her nature.

Yeah, the body thing's only, uh...about a year or two old.

[But he shrugs off the apology. It's just the thing that happens to swords that aren't considered valuable or important. He had no cultural importance, no aesthetic value, not even any real historical ties. He needs a war to be useful, to be necessary and needed. Otherwise, it's just forge fires and rust.]

But what d'you mean "was" beautiful. Is that Valinor place no longer around?

So very young still! In this form, at least. I hope this time here will be enjoyable for you then - or at least, interesting!

[ He shrugs a little ]

It is now beyond my reach. [ He says slowly ] For I am Exile, you see. So although I hold the memory evergreen, I do not know how it has changed since I left.

[He's a fierce warrior baby, plz!!!]

And it is well - that hurt is an old one, and the scar one I am well used to. And I hope not! I have family still there, and those returning. That the home of my youth remains as joyful and glorious as I remember - that is my hope.

[He never gets it when people are super attached to things. But sure, okay. He nods and looks puzzled, but decides that as long as Maglor isn't depressed because he brought up a sore subject, things must be fine.]
