I must say the good folk of this stop are very kind - they have allowed my brother and I use of the mines and forges here in exchange for some trading. My brother and I are going to be working on some proper swords - if anyone else is inclined to a bladed weapon, we are happy to make you one as well.

Grandfather, Fingon, you needn't ask, but your help in the forges would be invaluable - Maedhros and I manage, of course, but neither of us are... what we were. And we have neither Father, nor Curvo, nor Tylepe here to point out everything we are doing wrong!

I am certain that you will, cousin. I doubt you would offer you talents to the fleet like this were you not skilled at your craft.

I am not so good as my father or my brother and his son. [ Maglor shrugs shyly ]

But I remember the basics, and my brother Maedhros remembers as well, and he was always better than I in the forge. Hopefully it will serve.

That I am sure we can manage. But if you are wanting gold and jewels, we might have a harder time!

Goodness, no. I have no time for that.

Well, I have seen blades made with elaborate hilts, but gold is a terrible material for a weapon unless tis meant to be for show only, so I am glad!

I have seen the same, but unless gold is what can kill a creature, such elaborateness is not necessary at all.

Agreed. [ He hums ] No reason a weapon cannot be both beautiful as well as functional, but gold is heavy, and more than gold leaf unbalances a blade, and gems if not carefully set are difficult to grip. Not terrible good for a weapon meant for war.

Mm, I agree completely. I have always preferred a simple blade to the more elaborate ones I have seen for sale; they can be just as beautiful without all of the other nonsense.

We are down on [insert mine world X here] - at the mining facility here. It should be easy enough to locate, as I think this is the main facility - certainly, it is the one the spaceport links to.

Ah - I've not been there. [she gives a nod] I will do a quick sketch and then come down to meet you? It should not take me long.

[she offers him a parting smile before ending the feed, and then goes in search of her notebook.

She's never been much for fancy things, so sketching out what her old sword looked like doesn't take her long at all. She even scribbles out the measurements before she hops a shuttle down to where Maglor directed her.

It dawns on her as she goes in search of the elf that she forgot to ask for his name]

[ She'll hear them before she sees them, Maglor's voice raised in clear song, keeping time for his brother and cousin with his voice - he's slipped away from words into sound, the thrumming heart of a forge fire, the strength of mountains, the clash of the hammer - it's all there in his song to hear.

He steps outside as she comes into view with a bucket - he's clearly headed to fetch water, and he smiles and bows, the song breaking off into a bright welcome ]

Tempest, I do believe? Well met! Maglor, at your servie.

[she will never, ever get over how the elves here seem to love to sing. It isn't the first time she's heard it, and it's so different from the ones in her world that it throws her off, every time.

She returns his welcome with a tentative smile and bows her head politely, stepping closer. The urge to hide, as always, is one she has to force down]

[ Well to be fair, most of them are not QUITE so prone to burst into song as Maglor. Mostly. ]

Well, my brother and my cousin are. [ He shrugs, self-depreciatingly ] My job is to keep the bellows going and the water cold!

Is that not as important a job as the rest of it? [she raises an eyebrow]

[ he laughs at that and bows again wryly ]

You have me there. [ He admits ] Although I am not the one doing the actual forging - which is good! It was never my first love, so I am content with my lot, and the work still gets done.

I helped some with the making of my last sword, so I am familiar with some of it's difficulties. [she quirks a wry smile] So I can understand your contentedness.
