spacebro: (Curious - Listening)

Cartography? Really? Do you map the stars we go through? [He's more familiar with stellar cartography in general, but it applies in the fleet too.]
namisan: (yeah I know I'm good)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-10 09:59 am (UTC)(link)
I do, actually! Though it doesn't really serve much function other than helping to improve my ability to chart them. The ship computers already have the charts for these areas-- I do what I can and then see if they match.
spacebro: (Curious - Listening)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-11 01:25 am (UTC)(link)
How's your accuracy?
namisan: (amusement)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-14 04:41 am (UTC)(link)
Getting better all the time. My last couple of attempts have been pretty much spot on.
spacebro: (Smile - Curious)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-15 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
Sounds like you were destined for the stars. [Smiling at her.]
namisan: (eyyyy)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-15 08:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Grin.] No offence, but I'd rather not be. I'm just smart and I love cartography and I saw it as a challenge. But give me the choice, I'll go straight back to the ocean.
spacebro: (Smile - Confident)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-16 03:55 am (UTC)(link)
So you're a big fan of the water world?
namisan: (I'm probably lying)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-16 06:14 am (UTC)(link)
Not so much-- well, I like it. But a place with no coastlines, that's nothing but water, wears thin after a while.
spacebro: (Smile - Gentle)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-17 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
You need the contrast? The challenge maybe?
namisan: (so bored)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-19 08:57 am (UTC)(link)
The goalpost. Cartography and navigation is all about using your skillset to journey to a whole new place. If it's all ocean, there's nowhere to go. Though if we had coating technology, I guess I could sail a ship to all the places underneath the water instead.
spacebro: (Surprise - Waking up is hard)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-19 12:22 pm (UTC)(link)
You don't have any submergable vehicles on a world with that much water?
namisan: (yeah I know I'm good)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-19 02:52 pm (UTC)(link)
I just said we have coating technology. Which by reports seems to be unique to us.

But yeah, other than that, we do. One of our allies uses a submarine, not a pirate ship. And we have a mini one attached to our own. I don't think they're common, but they're definitely not unheard of.
spacebro: (Amused - Warm)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-20 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You said if you had coating technology, but I won't hold that against you. [He smiles.]

It is nice being up where you can breathe the air.
namisan: (shootin the breeze)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-22 03:36 pm (UTC)(link)
[Ah, he misunderstood her.]

I meant if I had coating technology here. We've got it at home. But yeah, I much prefer being above the surface.
spacebro: (Smile - Curious)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-24 02:40 am (UTC)(link)
[He sure did.]

Oh. That makes more sense. Well, you're way above the surface now.
namisan: (drained)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-25 12:52 am (UTC)(link)

Yeah. Though I definitely don't mind exploring down here. It kind of reminds me of Fishman Island.

[Because One Piece has some really obvious place names. Guess who lives there.]
spacebro: (Watching - Are you sure?)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-25 07:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Fishman Island?

[Carmen Sandiago?]
namisan: (you don't say)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-28 12:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Probably.]

Underwater home of the fishmen and mermaids. You have to travel through there to get to the other half of the Grand Line, which is a journey most pirates want to make.
spacebro: (Smile - Curious)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-28 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
You mean the people with fish tails like in that musical cartoon? [He had an extremely eclectic human media diet.] They're real?
namisan: (ah well you know how it is)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-05-30 03:54 am (UTC)(link)
IIII wouldn't know about musical cartoons, but given people often think of them as mythical creatures in our world too, I get the idea. And yes. They're real. Some of them are really huge.
spacebro: (Curious - Listening)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-05-30 05:06 am (UTC)(link)
[He looks intrigued.] How huge?
namisan: (so cheerful (run))

[personal profile] namisan 2017-06-02 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
[Grin.] More than fifty feet tall.
spacebro: (Amused - Light smile)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-06-06 01:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[He nods his head appreciatively.] I hope they're friendly.
namisan: (short hair IS better I agree)

[personal profile] namisan 2017-06-09 05:36 am (UTC)(link)
They're good people. Friendly to those who treat them right. If she ever comes here, I'll introduce you.

...though now I'm trying to imagine a fifty foot mermaid squished into the Marsiva.
spacebro: (Watching - Lips parted)

[personal profile] spacebro 2017-06-12 02:33 am (UTC)(link)
That would probably be unpleasant for her and for anyone she was on a ship with. But if it happens I'd be honored to meet any friend of yours.
